Accessorizing with a Cardigan
Finding the right accessories for your cardigan can be very easy! Cardigans are timeless pieces of clothing that have always been in style. What changes with each cardigan look are the accessories you choose to accent it with.
This guide will show you the best accessories to reflect your personal style. From necklaces to vintage accessories like lunchbox purses, this article will help you look high fashion in your accessorized cardigan.
Accessorizing a Cardigan with a Necklace
Necklaces and Cardigans
Every necklace looks good with a cardigan as long as the necklace is the right length. The most important part of choosing a necklace to go with your cardigan is making sure that the necklace falls either above or below the neckline.
Long necklaces go very well with cardigans because they make women look taller. The vertical lines of the cardigan against the shirt is accented when a long necklace like the one in the photo to the right is draped over the shirt/dress. A necklace with a pendant or large bead in the center is also a great way to accent a cardigan.
Short necklaces need to fall above the neckline of either the shirt or the cardigan (whichever is higher on the chest). Bold or layered necklaces are great ways to accessorize with a cardigan and really add sparkle to that simple piece of clothing.
Belts and Cardigans
Accessorizing a Cardigan with a Belt
Wearing belts with cardigans is an art. You can wear the belt on top of the cardigan, or underneath--high on the waist or low. Wearing a higher belt with a cardigan can be fantastic as long as you are wearing high-waisted pants, skirts, or shorts. If you choose to wear it low, make sure the waistline of your bottoms is also low.
Skinny belts look best when worn on top of the cardigan, but thick ones like the one to the right can be flattering depending on your look. If you are going to wear a belt on top of the cardigan, make sure it is high on your waist.

Bracelets and Cardigans
Accessorizing a Cardigan with Bracelets
Picking the right bracelets to go with your cardigan can be difficult. As long as you follow these simple rules, you can find the perfect accessories for your wrist:
Layered bracelets or bangles look great with a cardigan that has half-length sleeves.
Big bracelets go well with long-sleeve cardigans when worn over the sleeve like cuff.
Do not wear big bracelets underneath your sleeve or it will give the impression of a thick arm.
Scarves and Cardigans
Scarfs to go with a Cardigan
Finding the Right Scarf to Wear with a Cardigan
Scarves are great accessories to wear with a cardigan. The images above illustrate how a simple scarf can transform your simple look into high fashion. Picking the right scarf to go with your cardigan can be difficult because you do not want to overpower your look with a colorful scarf, while not wanting to drag it down by wearing one that is drab.
Look for scarves that have an exciting pattern when matching with a cardigan. You will want the scarf to have one of the colors in your outfit, but not too much of that color. Circle scarves look great with cardigans because they contrast the slimness of the cardigan and make the wearer's neck look long.
Vintage Look with Cardigan
Cardigans are timeless sweaters that never go out of style. If you have a vintage style, chances are that you wear cardigans a lot. Cardigans have endless possibilities for accessories; but if you have a vintage style, the cardigan is just a base for your look. Your style will be shown through your accessories.
Vintage accessories include vintage jewelry, Mary Jane's (shoes; see photo to right), and unique purses that reflect the trends of yesteryears.

The word 'cardigans' was enough to get me here, you had added 'accessories' to it! I like all your ideas, though some of these I had not tried really, like the belt- I somehow am not confident about it, but your models do compel me to reconsider. I think younger women will look wonderful in it. In India, we wear Cardigans with Sari, for ages, from the time of my granny to now, and for the real formal occasions we would combine pastel Cardigans with pearl long necklaces and ear-bobs. They really look very classy. Voted up and interesting.
