What Is a Digital Perm (aka Digi-Perm or Digiperm)
A digital perm is the process of curling your hair through the use of chemicals that break down the hair, which is then re-formed using heated rods.
The main difference between this kind of perm and the usual manual curling or perming is that digitally permed hair looks more natural and not kinky. The curl looks natural or like it was made with a curling iron.

Where Can You Get a Digital Perm?
Korean-run salons were the first to introduce digital perming technology, but many salons have also started to provide digital perming services.
You can probably visit any salon or parlor near you to get a digital perm, but you should be aware that digital perming can be costly compared to an old fashioned perm.
How to Maintain Your Perm
Permed and curly hair can be hard to maintain. However, there are some simple steps you can take to keep the curls intact.
- Wash your hair and divide into sections: two if your hair is very thick, four if it's thinner. Twist the sections. This way, when your hair dries, it will follow the spiral shape you gave it by twisting and prolong the life of your curls.
- Ask your stylist for recommendations of shampoo and conditioner that will help maintain your curl as well as repair the damage caused by the perm chemicals.
- As much as possible, use your fingers to comb through your hair, or a wide-tooth comb if necessary. Avoid using a brush or rubbing your hair dry after you take a shower. Instead, pat it gently with a towel.
- Put your hair up in two buns on the side of your head while you sleep so your curls don't flatten at night.
Things to Avoid:
Depending on your habits, this might be bad news for some of you. After you get your hair permed, you should:
- Avoid the steam room, the sauna, and swimming (because of the chlorine), since these will cause your hair to lose its curl faster.
- Avoid brushing your hair. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb. If you must brush, use a detangler first.
- Don't use too much conditioner since that can weigh your hair down, and don't comb your hair in the shower while conditioning your hair.
- This might be hard, but try not to wash your hair everyday. Every other day is best.

that's great to know, wee! do you still have to section and partition your hair in small sections and twist it while it's still wet? if not, you are very lucky coz u don't have to go through that hassle daily.
The thing is, if you have healthy, untreated and natural hair, the curls can easily be managed without having to do so much, and the curls tend to last longer. this is compared to those who have had their hairs relaxed, rebonded, colored - this is what I observe.

i don't think you can achieve the curly clumps that looks real nice when you clump it while it is still wet. when you clump it altogether after washing, it can still look curly but not as neat and as bouncy.

Yes you can do hair treatment like hot oil.. You can comb your hair once a day, just before you wash it. Afterwards, just finger comb it while it is still wet.

do not apply too much of the masque. It will put more weight to your hair. Apply just a small amount. And also try to use a masque with lighter consistency.

Have regular hair treatment so that your hair will have a nice state. Hair tend to become unhealthy specially with the many treatments we try, and one of the drying and damaging treatment is digital perm. Thus, hair treatment is very essential especially for treated hair.

I just got digi perm 2 days ago.. im not sure which "after-wash" product to use.. i opted to buy moroccan curling perfection defining cream by organix.. any thoughts on this product?
eatpraylove (author) from Philippines on January 27, 2014:
After washing your hair, when it is still half dry, you can clump up your hair by sectioning it and twisting it to create separate bunches of curled hair, wait till everything is dry, after about 2-3 hours or so, then finger comb it to lightly loosen the curls.. Do not comb your hair when it is dry. Only comb it with wide-tooth comb when you are about to wash it. This way, you can preserve the curls for a longer time.

Hi. My hair is digital permed. But it looks like it is starting to lose its curls and I have oily hair at the same time. :( So I kinda need some advice on how to further take care of my hair. Oh and I kinda bought a Hair Mask for it and I was wondering how do I use it? From what I heard, if your hair is oily, you have to apply until mid-length while curly hair, you have to apply on the root as well. So I'm kinda stuck. :( I need help. :(
