Make Your Own Body Wash and Save Money
A couple of months ago, I came across a very unique find. It was a post on Pinterest, which showed how you can make your own body wash. The best part was that it was super easy to make with a couple of ingredients and was extremely cost effective too. An added bonus to that was that it was free from harmful chemicals. I then began my research to find out more about DIY-ing your own body wash and came across a lot of content on the same. I learnt that you can make a whole product line of homemade body washes, and it involved only a few simple steps and a great end product. I gave it a try and I must say, I am amazed with the results. One of the key ingredients involved is Castile Soap for the recipe of the body wash, which I will be talking about in the next section.
Castile Soap and Its Benefits
Named after plant-based oil (olive oil) soaps originating from Castile, Spain, castile soap is a name given to soaps which are derived from the oil extracted from plants, nuts and vegetables. Now, these are derived from a variety of sources like coconut, walnut, almond, hemp, etc. The soap can be in a solid or a liquid form. During the manufacturing process of the soap, a substance called lye is missed with the oil, which leads to the process of saponification and this creates soap molecules.
Things You’ll Need
We will need only a couple of ingredients to make this body wash. You can find them either in the grocery stores, or online on websites like Amazon.
- A foaming dispenser (Many options are available online or you can resume an old one)
- 1/4 cup castile soap
- 1 cup water
- Lavender Essential Oil (You can replace this with your favorite essential oil)
Steps to Make the Body Wash
- Add the castile soap in the bottle.
- Then add the water in the dispenser.
- Add 10-15 drops of essential oil in the bottle, and mix the ingredients well.
- Your foaming body wash is ready.
Some Other Variations
Now, this is the most basic recipe for a body wash. You can add a number of ingredients depending on your liking and availability of ingredients. The possibilities are endless. Some of the ideas that I have personally tried and liked are:
- Adding coconut oil (for extra moisturization)
- Raw Honey
- Almond Oil
You can experiment with the quantities of the ingredients and even make your own different recipes with things lying around in the house.
Have fun DIY-ing your own!
