Anti-Wrinkle Creams ~

When we hear anti-wrinkle or anti-aging skin care we may be under the illusion there is a magic solution in a skin care product.

Alas, there is nothing that will stop the aging process, which is a fact.

There are however, simple skin care products we can use on our face and body that will reduce the signs of aging and jojoba is one of these must have natural products we all should have in our homes.

Business of Cosmetics ~

As a Beautician and Make Up Artist I have worked extensively within in the Cosmetic and beauty Industries for over 25 years both in Ireland and overseas.

I have worked for leading brands such as Revlon, Max Factor, Clarins, Trish McEvoy and Yves Saint Laurent selling, applying and learning the latest cosmetics.

The business of cosmetics is worldwide and a multi-million dollar earner for brands such as those I worked for.

It got me thinking; why not look at ways to utilize simple fresh ingredients free of chemicals, toxins and synthetic fragrance. Saving money is another great incentive to create your own mix of goodies. Cutting down does not have to mean cutting out.

What Makes Jojoba Special?

Jojoba is one oil that is light in weight and the most similar to the sebum (or oil) of our own skin. This fact alone makes it easily absorbed into our skin which provides soft non greasy moisturized skin suitable for all skin types, even acne prone.

In fact it is a primary ingredient used within acne treatments because it may actually unclog the blocked pores and slow down the acne skin condition.

Due to its lack of odours and impurities, jojoba is a primary base oil used in many skin products such as cleansers, moisturizers and eye makeup removers for even the most sensitive of skins.

Unlike standard branded cosmetics and even some homemade ones, jojoba products do not turn rancid as fast.

It is claimed that the anti-inflammatory ingredient in jojoba that is called Myristic Acid has benefits to arthritis and rheumatism when applied topically.

Another great quality of jojoba oil is it contains a compound called Ferulic Acid which absorbs the ultraviolet light from the sun which can cause changes to skin pigmentation and wrinkles. More research is continuing in this area to determine the levels of protection.

Ingredients:

1 tsp Jojoba Oil

1-2 tsp Frankincense Essential Oil

Method:

  • Mix the 2 oils together in a small bowl.
  • Cleanse the skin thoroughly, removing any makeup.
  • Apply skin toner or splash the skin with lukewarm water to remove any residue left from cleanser.
  • Apply your anti-wrinkle solution with a clean brush or with finger tips, avoiding the delicate eye area. You are better to use the next Jojoba Oil recipe, specifically for this area.

Hi Mary,

Lovely to see you. Good question! Turmeric is one I knew little about until recently and I am fascinated with now. It has been used for so long in so many ways. The oils like jojoba, coconut, olive and apricot kernel all have their place with me. I do love olive oil when I am not planning makeup wearing or for night. I have combination skin which is a bit oily so the jojoba is better for me under makeup. From traveling and from working in the Beauty Industry, I have also gotten used to always wearing sunscreen so I have a few foundations that have sunscreen in them. Depending on your skin type you may find different oils or mixes work best but I would definitely give the turmeric a go for comparison. Hope that helps! many thanks for your interest and votes!!!

Eiddwen from Wales on February 16, 2013:

Another 'naturally' great hub. I have a question though, of all these natural wrinkle remedies, which one do you think is best? I know nothing is foolproof but what would you pick? Tumeric or one of these?

Voted up, useful, and interesting.

I had to come over here and pay you a visit when I saw the title of your newest article. I purchased jojoba oil about a month ago and have been so pleased with it. My skin is smoother and it has stopped breaking out. I have frankincense so plan to add a few drops to my jojoba now! As far as the eye cream is concerned, I have never made my own but am excited to try it as eye creams are expensive. I have all the ingredients but the bee's wax. Will look into getting some soon. Big thumbs up, shared, etc. Thanks so much!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on February 14, 2013:

Passing it on to Bev, but really the only reason I'm here is to wish you a very Happy Valentine's Day. You are one in a million and I am very grateful for your friendship.
