When you live in the desert the weather goes from hot to cold so fast it can make your head spin. You wake up and it’s under 40 degrees — a lot under — but later in the day the temperature starts rising up and up. So you get up and it’s cold so you throw on a heavy coat, but then later in the morning it’s gotten a bit warmer so you just need a light coat. And sometimes it’s raining.. What’s really needed is a single jacket that will be good to wear when it’s kind of cold and then kind of warm and doesn’t care about the cold or rain — sort of an all climate jacket because it’s got some kind of lining that works better than other forms of insulation.
So a durable and lightweight insulated jacket is what we’re talking about and you’d think that technology would have caught up by now, it’s not all about fashion over function, right? But up to now that hasn’t been the case. So we’ll pull out and put on the GAMMA all season graphene infused heated jacket because it does bring jacket technology into the 21st Century, but more importantly it does stuff that other jackets can’t and don’t.
The GAMMA looks like a slicker, meaning a black jacket with pockets and zippers and a pretty ordinary demeanor that includes a hood. But the padding being used is unusual and downright slimming; it’s infused with graphene, a material that regulates its temperature based on the environment — so it brings on the heat from the person’s body to keep one warm and when it’s warm its breathable formation helps to move the air inside so as to keep that person cool because the graphene is permeable. So this creates a more uniformed insulation that isn’t a thick padding, and on a strictly physical level, the graphene is scratch proof, puncture proof, tear proof and abrasion proof — so obviously rubbing or scratching the jacket isn’t going to cause it to scuff or tear.
So if the idea is for it to absorb/distribute the body heat through the jacket, then we’ll put it on and go outside in our backyard where it’s about 36 degrees F right now. Comparing it to wearing a heavy coat just a few minutes ago before switching to this, obviously the first think we feel is how much lighter the jacket is to wear. And after a few minutes of walking around, we feel about as warm as we did when we were wearing the heavier coat earlier. This is pretty cool (bad pun, sure) and the fact that the jacket is so much lighter means we’re not bulked up moving around.
Now since it’s still kind of cold, we’re now taking advantage of the 3 carbon fiber built-in heating elements — powered by a powerbank you provide. The Inner picket for the powerbank has the nice touch in that the connecting USB cable is long so that attaching doesn’t become a twisted nightmare. Also using a slim powerbank is preferable so that it doesn’t show as a bulky outline. The membrane button works on three colored levels: going from 40C to 50C to 60C (obviously the hotter the faster the battery will drain). The 12mph of wind isn’t bothering us a bit now either.
So much time is being spent on the graphene, what about other physical aspects of this jacket? We’ll there are fingerless gloves built in, along with those Velcro cuffs for the wrist and a high neck combined with adjustable drawstrings in the hood and waist. Plus pockets, 10 of them, with two hidden. As example, a buttonable pocket for glasses and a sleeve pocket that a credit card or transit card can live in.
The GAMMA All-Season Graphene Infused Heated Jacket is waterproof, anti-microbial, anti-odor along with being UV resistant, insect repelling and machine washable. Add to all that water resistant zippers. The way this jacket works makes it worth wearing and makes it so that it WILL be worn. It’s pretty cool (or warm) to have such a high-tech jacket that you don’t have to think about, just put on and wear. We’ll try it out some more when we go hiking next week.
