1940s eyebrows were less dramatic than the rounded thin arches of the 30s. They were still plucked, but less severely. A slight arch with a point in the middle was coveted. After plucking, women would keep their brows in place with Vaseline. Famous actresses of the time wore this look, such as Lauren Bacall, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, and Veronica Lake.
Modern 1940s Eyebrows
You can draw inspiration from this eyebrow trend like Reese Witherspoon did. Create a slight arch by plucking your eyebrows. Instead of using Vaseline like women of that time did, you can use clear mascara to keep your brows in shape. Also, to make them look more modern and natural, don't groom the ends of your eyebrows (near the inner corner of your eyes). This will keep them from looking too retro and too perfect.

Thank you, Cyndi! I love watching old movies, too. I agree with you that the 1940s eyebrows are more wearable than the ones in the 30s. Thanks for reading!

This was an interesting article. As someone who loves old movies, I am conscious of the makeup trends of the the 30s and 40s. The eyebrow of the 40s looked much more appealing than the pencil thin, sometimes drawn in, eyebrow of the 30s. The tutorial was informative as well. There are so many tools for makeup today and it seems they add more all the time. If someone wished to change their look, tutorials are a good start. Well done. Take care. Cyndi
