Want to get compliments for your skin, even after 50 years of age?

‘Wow! You have crossed 50 years. But you still look 30.’

This is the compliment which can make a 50 years, plus of age, overjoyed.

But getting this compliment is possible, only if the skin looks youthful and firm.

And this is possible to achieve, with a little care and disciplined lifestyle

During teenage and young age, the skin naturally looks beautiful.

But it can not stay like that forever. As we age, fine lines and wrinkles are bound to appear.

Aging is a natural process. We cannot stop it, but we can definitely delay it.

How to take care of the aging skin?

Everyone-- women in particular desire for a youthful, toned, bright, and healthy skin. And who wants sagging skin, fine lines or wrinkles on their faces, neck, chin, or any part of the body?

The markets are flooded with skin tightening creams, anti-aging creams, skin toning creams, which claim to help and correct the aging skin problems.

They are helpful to some extent, but temporarily. To maintain healthy and perfect skin one can conveniently adopt regular skincare regime by themselves.

With regular natural and herbal care, you would not even need to use these artificial products.

What is the right age, when we should start taking care of our skin

Right from the 20's, one should start taking special care of the skin. As we age, the skin slowly and gradually starts losing its moisture. The skin may start looking dry and dull. It looses it’s shine and elasticity.

Many factors are responsible for this. Some of them can be—

  • Direct Sun exposure,
  • unhealthy lifestyle,
  • poor food habits,
  • too much alcohol,
  • lack of nutrition,
  • stress and anxiety,
  • dehydration and other factors may speed up the process of aging.

These signs of aging can be delayed by adopting a healthy lifestyle, taking proper and nutritious food, enough sleep etc.

What is the proper diet for glowing skin?

A nutritious and balanced diet, enough sound sleep and relaxation are essential for maintaining youthful skin.

Smoking, too much fat in the daily diet, junk food should be avoided as far as possible.

Fruits and vegetables, rich in Vitamins A, B, and C should be included in the daily portions. For example Orange, Carrots, Spinach, Broccoli, and others.

Antioxidant rich food is best for your skin.

Water intake should be adequate for that soft, flawless skin.

Water keeps the skin hydrated. In the winter season, we need more hydration and therefore we should drink at least 12 glasses of water per day.

Facial Massage to prevent the wrinkles and sagging of the skin

Regular massage of the facial skin with Olive oil or any other suitable oil is important. Apply gentle upward strokes, starting from the neck, upwards towards the forehead, and temples.

The idea is to make the massage anti-gravity and anti-sagging. This helps to maintain facial contour as far as possible.

Massaging is also necessary for hands and legs with the same principle.

If you are using a cosmetic product or a moisturizer for massaging purposes, you must follow the guidelines provided on the pack.

This is the standard rule to be followed, while using a skincare product.

  • Cleansing means loosening dirt and dust, and unclogging the skin pores by using warm water. After cleansing, cold water should be used to close and tighten the skin pores.
  • Toning removes excess cleanser which might be left on your skin. Toners also stimulate circulation.
  • Moisturising means protecting and rejuvenating the skin. They can be chosen according to the different types of skin--dry skin, oily skin or normal skin.
  • They are available in the form of gels, serums, lotions, creams or with SPF for sun protection.
Yoga for radiant facial skin

Yoga poses for radiant and glowing skin

Like any other part of the body, the facial skin also needs exercises.

Yoga exercises such as:

  • Padmasana,

  • Matsyasana,

  • Siddhasana,

  • Simhasana

  • Veerasana

These yogasanas are beneficial to maintain radiant skin.

While facial massage with Olive oil helps to get rid of dry and dead skin through exfoliation, these yogic exercises are very effective in toning the skin naturally.

  • Another exercise to delay the wrinkles is to inflate your mouth with air, rotate the air within mouth from one side to another. Remember to keep your lips firmly closed. Slowly release after a minute. Repeat five to ten times a day.

Thanks for reading and commenting on this article Thelma!

Glad you liked the information. I understand your concern about using turmeric in face mask. Only a small amount is used, and after washing the face, the yellow colour vanishes, and only the glow of skin stays. Turmeric is a regular item in Indian kitchens, for it’s anti inflammatory, anti allergic and other health benefits. But it’s always better to test, whether it suits you or not.

Appreciate your kind visit and support! Thank You!

Thelma Alberts from Germany on February 15, 2018:

Great tips. I have not tried turmeric in making my facial mask as I am scared that the yellow color will stay on my face. I might try this though. Thanks for sharing your wonderful beauty secrets.

My boy and I run and hide when the "Tumeric Monster" comes out of the bathroom or kitchen. I have no idea what she does but she is an Asian queen. She does this stuff, and wow does she look 15 years younger than what she is.

But it all boils down to diet in the end - as my boy and I slip out for burgers '-)

A very educational Hub done well. You cover the essentials and it includes so much in our philosophy! The diet, exercise, Hatha Yoga, fruits, berries and lemons ... todos. All marvellous for skin tone. Great pics!

Let me just say that we are all practice celebacy. I mention this, as the girls in our Centre have so much Light on their faces and their ages are so hard to tell. It all comes from the power of meditation, celebacy and quite a few of the things you mentioned. Great Hub!

Truly important to know there are alternatives to the firming artificial cosmetics out there. The use of turmeric seems to be quite helpful inside the body. I had no idea it could be used as an external aid as well. Thanks for the great ideas.

Thank You MsDora for appreciating the article! I am glad if this is helpful to you.

Chitrangada Sharan (author) from New Delhi, India on November 27, 2017:

Thank you Mary for reading and commenting on this article.

Yes, yoga is beneficial for overall health and our skin too.

I understand your concern for applying turmeric. Turmeric is a regular in Indian kitchens, due to its anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and other properties, both for internal and external organs. Yes it leaves a yellow colour, but that is temporary. For face packs, a very small amount is used and after washing the face, the colour vanishes and only the glow remains.

But if it doesn’t suit your skin, there are many other ways for skincare.

Thank You again for your kind visit! Have a good day!

Chitrangada Sharan (author) from New Delhi, India on November 27, 2017:

Thanks Tamara for appreciating the article.

You have suggested some more useful tips here about which I didn’t know. Thanks for your valuable suggestions. I would love to try them.

Thanks for the compliments too. Nothing great about me-It’s all because of my parents genes.

Have a wonderful day dear friend!

Thank you billybuc for reading and commenting!

Your energy levels at this age can give a complex to anyone twenty years younger to you. I appreciate your energy and enthusiasm for life and your work. It is that which counts. And if the skin doesn’t show the age, it’s an added pleasure.

Thank You so much for your feedback!

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on November 27, 2017:

I use to do a few yoga exercises but haven't done them for a long time. Thanks for the reminder. I'd like to explore yoga in more detail.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on November 27, 2017:

Thanks for these suggestions, Chitrangada. My biggest concern is facial wrinkles. I appreciate the help you offer in this article.

Mary Wickison from USA on November 27, 2017:

Excellent ideas. I should start doing yoga, I didn't realize it could also help me tone the skin.

I'm a little concerned about using turmeric on my skin. Does it stain? I ask this because when I use it in cooking, my plates have a yellow tinge afterwards.

BBYCGN from Uninhabited Regions on November 27, 2017:

An interesting article, Chitrangada! Another way to bring about a healthy glow to the skin is via Inversion. I’ve been using an antigravity table since I was 19 yrs of age. I use it because it’s so good for stretching. Also, an aerial Yoga Swing can be used to hang upside down, too, while spinning in full 360 degree circles. It is so much fun!

I drink Hot Chocolate, but add lots of extra hot water to it so as to get more water in my diet.

You have a cute and beautiful face, Chitrangada, and will be lovely even when you are 120 yrs of age.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on November 27, 2017:

I have pretty good genes. Yes, the wrinkles are showing, but they are not deep and my skin isn't sagging. Not bad for 69.
