A Facial Workout Is a Great Anti Aging Tool!
Face exercises have been a widely debated topic for many years and many people are still wondering if facial exercises do really work. In my opinion they do work. I discovered facial exercises quite a few years ago when researching the most efficient anti aging skin care treatments.
Exercising the face is nothing new, some people have been doing it for many years now, even the original fitness guru, Jack Lananne, credited his youthful looks to facial exercises.

Why the Skin Ages
But before sharing more information about facial yoga let me give you few facts about the main factors that influence skin aging, wrinkles and sagging skin.
As we get older the skin begins to sag, creating wrinkles and folds. One of the main reasons of sagging skin is the loss of collagen and elastin, natural proteins that give structure and elasticity to the skin. When collagen production diminish the skin is not able to retain moisture like before and it will become dry.
There are, of course other factors that influence sagging skin. These factors can be external such as sunlight which is the worst offender, tobacco, stress, alcohol abuse, unhealthy diet and pollution.
Internal factors include the reduction of skin density due to the loss of collagen and elastin. hormones in women dealing with the menopause, reduction of fat tissue and shrinking bones.
Who ever though that the bones on the face can shrink? Well is something that comes with age and apparently affects women earlier than men, GRRR!
Anyway, apart from the several treatments that we can find to restore volume to the skin such as facial fillers or implants we have a more natural alternative with face aerobics.
How to Do Facial Exercises
If you are not blessed with excellent facial features, you might think that the only way to achieve them is through cosmetic surgery. Well, you are not wrong there, but why will you want to put yourself through all that when there are easier and cheaper alternatives?
There are 56 muscles on the face and the best way to work them out is by isolating each muscle group and repeat the same exercise until the muscle tires and you feel a burning sensation. Once you experience this burning feeling you can rest assure that your muscles are getting a workout and will end up being stronger and more noticeable.
The best tip I can offer you when performing face exercises is to use your hands for resistance. This will not only make the muscles work harder, but will also prevent the formation of wrinkles by pulling with your hands in the opposite direction to the facial movement. And of course, you need to be constant and perform the exercises regularly to see a gradual improvement.
Toning Facial Muscles
Probably you have heard before that exercises for the face don’t work and that practicing them will create more wrinkles making the face look older. To be honest, people are free to think what they want, but I know for experience that facial exercises work for me and for many others around the world.
We exercise our bodies to get rid of fat and ultimately lose weight and we can also stretch and tone the body muscles to give us a more defined body. But I don’t think many people are aware that the muscles of the face can also be worked and toned to obtain well defined facial features.
By exercising the facial muscles you will be able to sculpt your face and get rid of unwanted fat and wrinkles at the same time. With these exercises you can isolate muscles groups and work different facial areas including the eyes, cheeks, chin, forehead, jaw, nose, neck as well as the lips.
With effective facial toning exercises you will see the results sooner when compared to the body because the muscles in the facial area happen to be smaller and as a result react faster to exercise. Some parts of the face will improve sooner than others, for instance a double chin is easier to eliminate if you are constant, but for the cheeks and eye areas you will need to give it more time.
If you are overweight or carry excess weight it will be necessary to lose weight from your body in order to lose fat from your face. With a combination of exercises for the face and body you will be on your way of having a more defined look.
7 Benefits Of Face Exercises
The main benefits of practicing facial exercise for the face and neck include:
1. Boosting blood circulation
2. Oxygenating the skin and restoring glow
3. Reducing face and neck wrinkles
4. Tightening the skin
5. Reducing or eliminating a double chin, eye bags and crow's feet
6. Fuller cheeks
7. Reducing or eliminating turkey neck
Face exercises have many advantages over more popular anti aging skin care treatments. For instance they are cheaper, they present no side effects, there is no pain involved, and they can be done from the comfort of your own home.
Although following a facial exercise program can take longer to see results when compared to other anti-aging treatments, if you are persistent you will begin to notice small improvements.

3 Exercises for Your Face
Probably many of you are already familiar with facial yoga, but in any case I’m going to share 3 facial exercises that will help tone some problematic areas of the face like the eyes, chin and cheeks.
1. Reduce a double chin
With shoulders relaxed, tilt your head backwards raising your chin. In this position place a closed hand underneath the chin and move the chin muscles forward and hold for a count of 10. Return to the original position and repeat 10 times. Do more repetitions as you get stronger.

2. Get Fuller Cheeks
Place two fingers just below the apple of your cheekbones. Apply some resistance with your fingers and with the mouth open in a long “O” try to smile with the corners of your mouth. This is a small movement. Repeat 20 times and increase as your muscles get stronger.

3- Eliminate Eye Bags
With your eye closed place the middle fingers at the top of the nose bridge and look up. The eyes must remain closed at all times. Keeping the head still maintain this position for a count of thirty. As the muscles around your eyes get stronger increase the counts.

These are just a few of the many face toning exercises that I practice everyday. If you are curious about facial exercises the best advice I can give you is to try them for yourself.
You will be the best judge to decide whether facial exercises work for you because not everyone experience the same results. Get into the habit of doing facial yoga daily, give it time to work, and if you are constant and serious about this, you will soon see results.

Do Facial Exercises Work for You?
Tressie Dawson on December 29, 2017:
Nice article! Face exercises are really helpful but one can try anti aging cream to reduce or vanish the fine lines and wrinkles. One friend of mine recommended lifecell anti aging cream to me and it really worked for me. You should give it a try.
