Denim Repair - Patching a Hole in Bib Overalls
Women's work is never done...sigh. My man worked from sun to sun and has made a worn spot in his bibs
Perhaps someone else would just make a scarecrow out of them, but, no... He intends to start a trend.
So. I'm patching them.
I had a few denim patches, and an iron, and I evaluated the spot that had a hole in it.
I had a few choices. Color of patch denim. Dark or light blue. Patch on inside, or outside.
Okay, so the decision has been made for me. Since the pants are in such sorry shape, the patch will be on the inside. It will extend at least an inch outside the actual hole, and will be one solid patch.
Color does not matter since it won't be seen anyways.
It's not very hard. Turn pants inside out. Make sure to mark edges where patch should be. Why? Because once you heat the spot where the patch goes, it's easy to get confused where it needs to be.
Then, once spot is hot, place patch on jeans sticky side down... Towards the material. Then, iron patch for almost a minute on every inch of the patch. So, about 7 minutes worth.
Then, leave it alone until it's cooled off. Don't touch it. Don't poke at it. Leave it alone.
Once cooled, sew around edge of patch with sewing machine on fine stitch. I used a thread specifically colored like denim.
Be careful not to sew pockets into patch. Clip loose thread ends.
