DIY Egg White Face Mask Recipes for Beautiful Skin
Egg White Face Masks
Egg whites are often used in face mask recipes, and they are thought to help people achieve beautiful, radiant skin. You can make a mask with egg whites alone, or you can add other powerful ingredients to provide more nourishing benefits to your skin. Some great potential ingredients include honey, orange juice, turmeric, avocado, and yogurt.
Here are three simple, skin-friendly face mask recipes for healthy, blemish-free skin using common kitchen ingredients.
Top 3 Recipes
- Acne-Busting Face Mask
- Skin-Lightening Face Mask
- Hydrating Face Mask
What Are the Benefits of Egg White Face Masks?
Egg whites contain numerous vitamins and minerals that are linked to skin benefits. Some of these benefits include fighting acne, hydrating dry skin, and reducing skin inflammation.
- Protein: Egg whites contain a large amount of protein, which is linked to many benefits for the skin, including helping fight acne and hydrating and tightening the skin.
- Lysozyme: Egg whites contain lysozyme, an enzyme that kills acne-causing bacteria by digesting their cell walls. Applying an egg white face mask may help kill bacteria on your skin and reduce acne.
- Potassium: Electrolytes, including potassium, are thought to help hydrate dry skin and preserve moisture in the skin.
- Riboflavin: Also known as vitamin B2, riboflavin promotes cell turnover and collagen maintenance, which can help with dry skin, inflammation, and healing.
- Magnesium: Another hydrating ingredient, magnesium, may also help reduce skin irritation.
Important Notes on the Research
- Research on the topical use of egg whites and other natural face mask ingredients is limited.
- It is best to talk to a dermatologist for specific skin concerns before beginning new treatments, especially if you have existing skin conditions.
- Perform a patch test before using homemade masks. You can patch test by applying a small amount of your homemade mask to an area of skin (preferably not on the face). If you experience stinging, burning, or redness, you should remove the mask immediately.
1. Acne-Busting Egg White Face Mask
This pimple-fighting face mask has three powerhouse ingredients that you can find in every kitchen. It’s simple to make and super inexpensive; you simply can’t afford to miss the numerous benefits!
- Lemon juice is an astringent with antimicrobial and antifungal effects that may help fight off acne-causing bacteria. It may also lighten skin and reduce discoloration.
- Honey has antimicrobial properties that can help with inflammation. It is also thought to help skin heal more quickly. Acting as a skin-lightening agent, honey may also help reduce acne scars.
Ingredients
- 1 egg white
- 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon of honey
Directions
- In a clean mixing bowl, whisk together the egg white and lemon juice until the mixture becomes frothy. The lemon juice masks the odor of the egg white. Add 1/2 teaspoon of honey and stir well.
- Wash your face with warm water to open up your pores. Using clean hands or a cotton ball, apply the mixture onto your face, avoiding the sensitive areas around your mouth and eyes.
- Relax as you wait for the mixture to settle and dry on your face. You can lie down and breathe deeply, thinking happy thoughts!
- Keep the mask on for 10–15 minutes. When the mixture has completely dried on your face, gently scrub it off using warm water, tackling all areas of your face in a circular motion. Pat dry with a towel, and marvel at the smooth feel of your skin!
2. Skin-Lightening Egg White Face Mask
Pamper yourself with this skin-lightening egg white face mask. This recipe uses turmeric, a root herb that has amazing skin-lightening properties that help even out the discolorations and dark spots caused by acne!
- Orange juice contains vitamin C, which has many benefits for the skin, such as reducing dark spots and improving skin texture.
- Turmeric may reduce dark spots caused by acne and even out discolorations. It is also thought to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
Ingredients
- 1 egg white
- 1 teaspoon orange juice
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
Directions
- Place the egg white and orange juice in a small mixing bowl and whisk until it becomes frothy.
- Add in turmeric powder and mix thoroughly. Make sure the mixture is not too drippy.
- Using clean hands, apply the mixture to your face and massage in a circular motion, allowing it to sink deep into your skin. Keep it on for 15 minutes while you lie down to prevent gravity from pulling the mask downward.
- When the time is up, gently scrub off the dried mask from your face and apply moisturizer. A perfect natural moisturizer is 3–4 drops of olive oil.
3. Hydrating Egg White Face Mask
Who says egg whites are only for oily, acne-prone skin? This hydrating egg white mask contains potent ingredients and is great for people with dry skin, too. For this mask, use ripe avocados to create a lump-free paste. You can also freeze and then thaw the avocado before mashing it or use a blender to quickly and efficiently blend the avocado into a puree.
- Avocados contain biotin (vitamin B7), vitamin C, and vitamin E. These vitamins are thought to hydrate and moisturize skin, improve skin elasticity, and create a youthful glow.
- Yogurt contains live cultures, which are thought to help eliminate acne-causing bacteria. Yogurt may also moisturize dry, flaky skin, nourishing it back into soft, supple, and youthful skin.
Ingredients
- 1 egg white
- 1/4 ripe avocado
- 1 teaspoon plain, unsweetened yogurt
Directions
- Using a fork, mash the avocado until it turns into a lump-free paste.
- Add the egg white and yogurt and mix well.
- Apply a thick coat of the mixture onto your face with clean fingers and sit for about 15 minutes.
- Wash off the mask with lukewarm water when the time is up, and pat your face dry with a towel. Enjoy the look of your moisturized skin!

Hi, I used honey mask for 6 days and saw a bright and healthy result on my face then I try to use Honey+Egg+Lemon and saw blemishes scattered on my face just on first day of use, I continue using it on the other day hoping that it's just the reaction of using it fro the first time. I want to ask if it is normal to have red spots appearing on my face? Because I'm thinking that it might be normal and after it healed then I'll have better outcome if it healed than using honey mask

Hi, thanks for the great article! I have been using egg-white now for some years, but it was instinctive rather than having read about it online. It just felt 'natural' to pick up the eggshell and dab the remaining white onto my face esp concentrating on the areas beneath my eyes.. its worked for me ever since withj no negative side effects so try it for yourself.. :) go natural!

Great Hub
When I was around fourteen, my hair got a little oily from my activities. To keep my hair fresh longer after I washed it, I would use whipped egg white on it. I put it in my damp hair, and let it dry, then brushed it out. My hair had more volume too.
I've never used it on my skin though, but I'm going to try it. Thank you for sharing. I've bookmarked it to refer back I Voted it up and useful.

You could just keep it in an air-tight container and put it in the freezer. Then next week, just remove it about an hour before you apply it in order for it to thaw.
If you'll use it within 3 - 4 days, you could leave it in the refrigerator. It won't go bad due to the preservative properties in lemon.

rainbowunicorns on April 14, 2014:
the egg white alone works for me. I use to have massive zits on my face but now it's clearly all gone, my pores became tight and no signs of scars, it was amazing. I apply it every tuesday and friday. Oh and I also dab ice on my face. I actually wouldn't recommend lemon. It'll cause redness since it too acidic, it'll also sting and might even cause pimples because it'll dry your face too much (I tried it). Also don't use the egg yolk unless your face is really really clear from pimple because it might moisturize the growing zit. Honestly the egg white moisturizes my face enough the the yolk. The smell though ... ; o ;

Do it once a week, preferably when you have your 'spa day at home'. If you have the time, do it every other day. Make sure you test to make sure your skin is not sensitive to lemon. Try diluting the lemon juice with water to reduce irritation. Hope this helps.

How often should I use the lemon juice one on my skin
healthmunsta (author) on February 23, 2014:
@Llzziforan: It's not recommended to keep on any face mask on overnight. Ideally you should keep on a face for 15 minutes. Someone actually asked me about keeping their yogurt face mask on for the whole night and I gave the same response. You can find the comment here: https://discover.hubpages.com/style/Yogurt-for-Ski...
Anyway, don't worry, the redness will clear off within a few hours. In the meantime, grab an ice cube from your freezer, wrap it in a soft cloth (or hankie) and rub it gently over your face. This will reduce redness and soothe any soreness. If you have aloe vera gel or glycerin, you can apply that as well, as these both have soothing properties too.
Wish you the best.
