Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Rose Bonner. I am an author, hair expert and license clinical mental health counselor. As a hair expert, I love cosmetology. It is a very broad field that people usually don’t know there are so many careers in this industry. Hair is fun. It is one of my favorite forms of fashion. There are no limits to it only by your imagination. When I was younger, I could not get a stylist to fix my hair the way I wanted. So, I went to cosmetology school to learn how to take care of my hair. I was sought-after in the salon for creative coloring. I would correct hair problems and restore hair to its shiny healthy state. I want to share my experiences to help others who are facing similar struggles. I have corrected enough hair problems, so you don’t have to have one.
How did you get started in the beauty industry?
I worked at a beauty supply store as a manager when I was 18 years old. Our inventory would sell so fast on certain weekends; I would go to our competition to supply our store to keep our customers. I learned then how important hair was to people. So I began my research, I learned key factors that are important in maintaining a healthy head of hair. I dedicated a lot of years to learn what products work and which ingredients are best for dry, damaged hair by picking products that save consumers money, time when it comes to their hair and delivers what is promised on the label. People would always ask me questions about their hair when I was not in the salon. I noticed that people don’t know some basic steps and practices that are common in the salon but unknown to consumers.
Where did you get the inspiration for writing your new book Unlock The Secrets for Relaxers, Perms, and Colors?
I grew up experimenting with my hair. I would make mistakes that would take a long time to correct. So, I began researching and learning about ingredients of products and what they do. I created surveys to ask consumers what they want out of hair care products and what were their expectations. Similar questions were consistently being asked by consumers: (How do I stop my hair from breaking? Can I use a relaxer without damage? People can’t create a salon body wave at home). Many people don’t know what is causing their hair to break. I identify the different types of hair breakage and how to stop it from happening.
When I left the salon, I wanted to make a guide for people who don’t know about hair. When you google or tiktok information, the information may not be complete nor answer all your questions. I wrote a book to help a person maintain healthy hair without spending all their money and time.
What are your top tips for maintaining healthy hair?
To learn from start to finish on keeping hair healthy a person must take into account a few factors like lifestyle, choice and goals. Don’t over brush or comb hair which cause more damage. Today’s products are very concentrated due to our nanotechnology so to use the correct amount can make a difference between lifeless hair or vibrant beautiful hair. You don’t have to trim hair every 6 weeks to maintain healthy ends. Hair is hair, learning how to keep and grow shiny hair is simple and easy when you know what to do.
