When it comes to interesting symbolic tattoos that symbolize one's individuality, barcode tattoos are a great choice. Although barcode tattoos are not considered to be a mainstream tattoo, their slow rise in popularity can't be ignored. Barcodes have had a unique history over the past few decades. Barcode tattoos are worn by both men and women. In this article, we will discuss why barcode tattoos are so unique, barcode tattoo designs, and barcode tattoo meanings. There is no question, when it comes to barcodes, they are everywhere. Barcodes are on everything that we purchase, from food to electronics. Barcodes were first used in the 1950s. Fast forward 60 years later and you can find them on nearly every product for sale. Barcodes are used to track prices and inventory. Over the past few years, tattoo artist have made barcode tattoos unique and desirable. If your looking to represent your individuality, the barcode tattoo is the way to go.

There are several different reasons why men and women choose barcode tattoos. One example why people choose barcode tattoos is that they want to express their individuality. With all the technological advancements and progress, it is getting harder and harder to be noticed individually. Some feel that the barcode tattoo expresses one's individuality.

Some men and women feel that the barcode tattoo symbolizes a person that is against corporate greed and corporate manufacturers. They feel that it is a way to protest against corporate giants of the world today. They feel that marketing campaigns target humans out of greed and that the corporate world could care less about the humans they market. In this case, the barcode tattoo symbolizes your stand against the corporate world.

Many of us have already heard of the "Mark of the Beast." A portion of people believe that barcodes are the Mark of the Beast, the same one that is explained in Revelations of the Bible. Although this is true, it doesn't mean that someone with a barcode tattoo is trying to symbolize such meaning. Someone that is would wear a barcode tattoo on their head and possibly incorporate the "666" into the tattoo, which also represents the Mark of the Beast.

Most men and women wear the barcode tattoo as a statement or art. It symbolizes that they are not followers, but they are rather a special unique personality. Men and women feel that machines and computers are taking over the world. Humans are required less and less as technology advances. The barcode tattoo can represent your support for humanity.

There are a variety of different ways that you can make your barcode tattoo unique to you. Most barcode tattoos are considered as a small tattoo design. They are commonly tattooed on the back of the neck or in the wrist area. If you just want a basic barcode tattoo with no wording, then the number sequence or letter sequence in the barcode tattoo will not have any meaning. You can just pick an original barcode design.

Most men and women want to choose a barcode tattoo that is unique to them and that symbolizes their personality. There are many ways that you can do this. For those of you that are thinking about adding words, you could add your name, brother, sister, mom, dad, hero, or America. If you were born in Canada, you can add Canada to your barcode. If you are Irish, you can add Irish. Some choose words that tie in with the symbolic meaning of the barcode tattoo, such as individual, human, human being, not for sale, unique, or personality. When thinking of a unique word, try to pick one that fits your personality, something unique to only you. This is the main meaning of the barcode tattoo. However, any word you choose to get inked will be find. If you want monster in your barcode tattoo, that is your choice.

If you don't want to add words to your barcode tattoo, you can add numbers instead. There are a few different ways that you can use unique numbers that fit your personality. Some men and women choose to get their birth date inked. For example, you can do 1-12-1988 or 1-1988. You can use any combo that you wish. If you have a child, you may want to use their birth date. You could just go with the year of your birth also. Some men and women choose to add their zip code, such as 85212. You can also choose a number that is unique to you, perhaps a number you wore before in sports or a number that is special to you.

In the end, the bar code tattoo represents one's individuality. You can add anything that you want to add to your tattoo. Not Your Normal Tattoo

Bar code tattoos are certainly not your typical tattoo. However, there is a popularity for such a tattoo. There is some creative ways to make the bar code your own. If you personally ask me if I'd get a barcode tattoo, the answer is no, wouldn't even consider it. A few years into tattoos, I didn't even know they existed. That's just me, everyone is different and they certainly have a right to choose their own tattoo.

Most bar code tattoo designs are designed alone. Can you make the barcode tattoo cool? Sure, if I was to get one, I've have to add something special to it. I believer something much darker could make it pop. Perhaps, you could add flames, joker, skulls or something to that nature to toughen it up. It can be done. There's nothing wrong with adding a barcode alone, don't get me wrong. Personally speaking, I would try to come up with a tattoo design that incorporates the barcode.

Although all barcodes look very similar in the real world, that's not the case for the tattoo. Take a look around at all the examples. As you can see, they can differ from one another greatly. Hopefully you can find a good example in this article to get an idea and go with it. As you should always do, take the time to research some good barcode tattoos and see if you can't develop a killer barcode design. And if you ever need some ideas or inspiration, I'm always around!

Max, that is very possible. Anyone of those can fit. In the end, your tattoo symbolizes what you want it too. Thanks for dropping by, as well as you Gypsy. Take care.

Odd but fascinating.

BeyondMax from Sydney, Australia on July 19, 2012:

@Ricky - may be the reason behind it is mainly psychological? As a guess, I'd say may be it's the feeling of belonging, feeling of life being in order and sort of security even if it sounds kind of ephemeral...

It is surprising to me that people do choose to get barcode tattoos. It is more because they are trying to make a statement, rather then the art of the barcode. Thank you all so much for your comments, time, votes, and everything else. I send my best to you all and thanks for being my friends, very seriously. Take care all:)

For some reason I actually like the idea of barcode tattoos. The only thing that I'd avoid in this type of tattoos is making them with some childish/jokeish meanings, kinda loss of the point (even though I am the first one to make fun of life LOL)

Rosemary Sadler from Hawkes Bay - NewZealand on July 15, 2012:

Very interesting although I would not choose to have a barcode tattoo, But who knows in the future the human race may all have to be barcoded at birth. What a horrible thought.

Jasmine on July 15, 2012:

Oh, boy! These tattoos are funny :)

DFiduccia from Las Vegas on July 15, 2012:

I'm not into tattoos, so I thought I'd just drop by and say, "Hello."

Beth Perry from Tennesee on July 15, 2012:

thelyricwriter, I really enjoy your tattoo Hubs and the photos are always so interesting. I will say, however, if I had to pick one type of tattoo I would NEVER get it is a bar code, lol. I just can't see the appeal!
