"Be an Audrey in a world of Kardashians"
When I went on a trip to Rome last year, I made sure to pack clothes that resembled Audrey's style from Roman Holiday. I wanted to look graceful, and classy and become a modern day Audrey. Because of her iconic role as Princess Anne, I see Europe as a grand and fashionable continent that alludes elegance.
Audrey Hepburn is the epitome of class, style and grace. Audrey was an actress during the Golden Age of Hollywood, and stars in iconic films such as My Fair Lady, Sabrina and Breakfast At Tiffany's. Ever since watching her as the cockney flower girl, turned princess in My Fair Lady, I have been enthralled by her graceful demeanour. She is living proof that you don't need to be born with the title of a princess to be one. Audrey is not only renown for her acting, and philanthropic ventures, but for her timeless, classic and feminine style that influences 21st century women all over the world.
"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles." - Audrey Hepburn
Audrey's style was simple yet sophisticated. She was never known to wear outrageous, and flamboyant outfits, but what made her stand out was the way the clothes fit, and the silhouette they created. Her tall confident posture, and the endearing way she held herself is what drew people's attention. Style is not always about the dress, but its about how the woman wore the dress. Her iconic black Givenchy dress and pearl necklace she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's is still seen as a statement outfit by women today. Audrey shows us that a bold look, and 'trends' disappear with the seasons, but a simple, elegant look is forever timeless.
Audrey's classic, and beautiful style exhibits that it is most certainly 'cool' to wear feminine, floral and pink clothing. As a teenager growing up in the 21st century, it astounds me the amount of girls who believe that the only place for pink is in a pre-adolescent girls bedroom, and that florals belong in grandma's wardrobe. Audrey is proof that elegance is the trendiest trend there is!
Audrey often paired her outfits with a statement accessory. Whether it was a beautiful hat or headpiece, gloves, sunglasses, or a necklace it gave the outfit a special touch. If she was wearing an elaborate dress she didn't pair it with fancy accessories, as she knew elegance, is understated. She is an example of less is more when it comes to fashion.
“Life is a party. Dress for it.”
Audrey incorporated the idea of elegance, grace and sophistication into the way she lived her life. She used her platform to do wonderful things for charities such as UNICEF and she helped disadvantaged children all over the world. Rather than just donating money, she went on mission trips to developing countries and did her best to make a difference.
“Giving is living. If you stop wanting to give, there’s nothing more to live for.”
Audrey believed that beauty comes from within saying "For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." Anyone can wear a dress, but it takes a special person to make it beautiful.
Audrey is a wonderful role-model for women today. She grew up in Nazi Germany, had two failed marriages, and numerous miscarriages but still faced everyday with a smile and a gentle determination. Growing up in a world where women such as Kim Kardashian and instagram influencers who appear almost naked all over the internet are idolised, it is so important to be able to look at women like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly who show what it truly means to be beautiful.
“The greatest victory has been to be able to live with myself, to accept my shortcomings… I’m a long way from the human being I’d like to be. But I’ve decided I’m not so bad after all.”
I adore this interview with Audrey. She is so graceful, humble and it shows how she lived and breathed elegance.

Gorgeous article about one of my favourite actresses thank you Tiarna.
Isn't it wonderful reminiscing about beautiful souls like hers? Those clothes that she wore by Givenchy are sublime as are Grace Kelly's wardrobe in To Catch A Thief and Rear Window.

I have read your article with great interest. I have learnt a lot about Audrey Hepburn from it. It was very sad that Grace Kelly died at such a young age.
