Alexander McQueen: A Great British Designer

Let Me Introduce Mr. Alexander McQueen

Lee Alexander McQueen, (March 16, 1969 - February 11, 2010) was a British fashion designer famous for his unique and exhilarating designs and shocking creations. McQueen worked for design house Givenchy as the head designer for five years before founding his own label, Alexander McQueen and his secondary label, McQ. His dangerously delicious designs were coveted by celebs such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Madonna. He died today in his home. (Feb. 11, 2009)

A Tribute

I have been a fan of Mr. Alexander McQueen for quite some time now. It hurts to know that one of the most brilliant fashion minds of this world is now gone. He has been creative, unique, inventive, risque, even crazy with his designs and fashion-show ideas. His love and eye for fashion truly shows on his runways. He was no typical designer. His ideas were all original and unique. Unlike other designers, Mr. McQueen designs whatever he loves and never ever copies others' ideas. I have the utmost respect for him as a designer, and will look towards his amazing fashions for inspiration for years to come.

“When you see a woman wearing McQueen, there's a certain hardness to the clothes that makes her look powerful.... It kind of fends people off. You have to have a lot of balls to talk to a woman wearing my clothes.”

NY Tails on July 01, 2010:

Are those tigers in the background of the last photo of the model wearing yellow? I'm going to hope those are McQueen's personal pets. I don't know that he could get cooler, but tigers might take him up a notch.

Festersporling: He certainly was, all my girlfriends and a lot of my girly man friends have also been in mourning!

Pretty: Yes Lady Gaga was a huge fan. Who will make her outrageous outfits now?

allergy: Thanks for the tip. I'll try and add more articles.

Thanks for visiting everyone!

prettydarkhorse from US on February 16, 2010:

oh I saw the news ad I am glad you wrote this one, Lady Gaga like him a lot, Maita

Daniel Christian from Los Angeles, CA on February 16, 2010:

He was definitely an innovator. Many female friends of mine were upset with his passing.

Yena Williams (author) from California on February 12, 2010:

pmccray: Ms. word of reason! Yes McQueen fashion is very very abstract and beyond reason. He was known for thriving in his 'shock-fashion' tactics.

I personally do like fashion that is very 'women's body' flattering: aka all Hispanic designers!

pmccray on February 12, 2010:

Great tribute, but I agree with Pamela99, not a big fan on his work or his distorted view of the female / male body. I watched an interview featuring Lady GaGa, (love her music, but her fashion sense stinks.) I gather, from the interview that she was a big fan of the designer, but I gotta say what she was wearing was more of a distraction than a statement. Fashion should highlight what a person has not hide or make the human form into something grotesque.

Micky Dee: How have you been Micky? To be honest I don't think any respectable 'biker' would ever be able to wear some of those fashions. My boyfriend says one of the dresses looks like a crab ragoon. =) Thanks for visiting Micky.

Magnifique: You're my kind of girl. It is very sad and I'm glad you're doing your own tribute!

magnifique on February 12, 2010:

I also mourned Mr. Alexander McQueen, he was the best most innovative designer. a true one of a kind. thanks for the tribute, im doing a blog tribute too.

Micky Dee on February 12, 2010:

Hi Yenajeon. I must agree with Pamela. I couldn't wear the clothes, don't think I'd hang out with the guys who wear them, and I wouldn't be attracted to the ladies. But I died years ago. I do love you though. Thanks

Yena Williams (author) from California on February 11, 2010:

Hi Pamela: Yes his designs/fashion is somewhat unique. Personally, I think he's brilliant, but I'm sure my boyfriend and mother would think its crazy.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on February 11, 2010:

I have to say this is an interest hub about McQueen but I really don't care for hid designs. Sorry.
