The two main styles of 90's makeup were glamour and grunge. Both featured dark lipstick and thin eyebrows. Foundation and powder were used to create a pale face. Eyebrows were plucked or drawn on with a brow pencil to be thin. A layer of brown eye shadow and a swipe of mascara completed the glamour look, while the grunge style was more messy. Brown or gray eye shadow was layered on the eyelids (and sometimes put under the eyes) to create a smoky eye. Smudged eye liner was added with a small amount of mascara to complete the trend. The glamour look was high fashion while the grunge look was anti-culture. Both styles were the epitome of 1990's makeup.

Adapt 90's makeup for today. Leave your brows natural or fill them in with a brow pencil to create fuller, bolder eyebrows. Choose a shade of foundation that matches your skin tone and skip the powder. Wear your favorite dark lipstick and then create a smoky eye with brown or gray eye shadow. Apply a few layers of mascara to make your eyes appear larger. Brush a subtle color of blush such as pale pink or coral on your cheeks to complete the look.
