Tats and Piercings Are All Around

If you walk along the streets in many different countries of the world, you will find different people of different races. But one thing which these many races may have in common is that they may posses some form of tattoo or piercing. Millions of people have chosen to permanently draw or write on their skins for various reasons. There are those who also love to pierce their body and a few who goes the extreme on both tattooing and piercing. What would make an individual do all these decorations, designs and maybe even mutilation to their skin? Well, when the question was asked to tattooers and piercers, these were the main reasons given for tattooing and piercing their skin.

1. Wanting To Be Different And Unique

Many people will tell you the reason they got or plan to get a tattoo or a piecing is because they want to stand out. They want to be different than others. But being different and unique now in the world of tattoo is long gone because it is simply the norm nowadays. Tattoo and piercings have been done long before most of these teen and young adults even existed. The African Egyptians and Polynesians were the first people to use any form of body modification such as piercings or tattoos. Later it was adapted by the western world and soon became quite popular. Tattooing eventually opened up a unique job market for tattoo artist and body modification specialist. But the fact is that, the only uniqueness which a tattoo or piercings can bring is really not much. You will have to come up with a design or modification with a WOW factor and most is already played out.

2. Symbolism, History, Experience

People will use tattoos and piercings to symbolize many things. Lets look at one of the more common types of tattoos which has deep symbolism. Gangster tats. Many times people who are involved in gangs will normally get tattoos and wear colors which represents that gang. A gang member will simply get a eagle painted red on his fist as a symbol of the blood birds gang. Look at the marines. Many marines will get certain tattoos which when seen will let anyone who knows about that type of tattoo, tell that the person must have been a marine.

Some people will get tattoos of a past loved one name or even face. This means to them, that no matter what, the person who has passed will always be remembered and be apart of them physically forever. Some people have gone through different levels of experience in their lives and will simply either pierce an area on their skin for every past experience or get a tattoo symbolizing past experiences.

3. Culture, Cult And Religious Purposes

Yes, there are some people living in the world who still have what we call a culture. There are cultures around the world where certain types of body piercings, modification and tattoos have certain meaning as it relates to spirituality and cultural beliefs. For example, lets look at the art of ear stretching. Ear stretching is a huge cultural practice where the lobe of the ear is pierced and several weight of rings is placed inside the lobe, creating enough weight to allow the lobe to pull down. Eventually over time after wearing these weighted rings, the ear will continue to grow and develop being stretched down to as far as the neck or chest. What may seem weird to some people is quite natural to others, as these modifications are their birth right. Cultural practices of tattooing, piercing and any other body modifications are based upon, religion, coming of age ceremonies, warding off evil, sexual enhancement and physical beauty.

One of the more sinister reasons for tattooing and piercing is to actually create a environment on your body which supports the invoking of evil spirits. There are people who tattoo portals, names of demons, and many other Lucifer endorsed symbols.

4. Fashion And Style

You would wonder why people think that having a metal object peeping out of their nostril is any form fashionable. But many people do regard their tattoos and body piecing as trendy and quite fashionable. As a matter of fact, tattooing as evolved just like any clothing line or top designer. The way tattoo was done last year, was not the way it is being done today. There are better tattoo artist which can charge bigger dollars for better and much more complicated work. There are now 3 dimensional (3D) tattoos being done. The type of ink being used is much different than the ink being used yesterday. Even though getting tattooed is also considered fashionable, you would wonder why these fashionistas would want to stick with something as permanent as a tattoo and then say its a fashion statement. As far as i know, fashion and style are trends, trends that eventually gets changed over time, depending on the mood of the generation. So you see why that mickey Mouse tattoo you got in 1970 is now looking quite ridiculous on your arm?

5. Addiction

It is not only drug users who end up becoming addicted. There are many other things in life which people can either become so obsessed with that it ends up turning out to be an addiction. Have you ever notice those people who stingily gets pieces and pieces of tattoos all the time? They visit the tattoo shop just like you would visit the gas station. Some people simply love the feeling of their brain creating endorphin. These are natural pain relievers which are created in the brain and released to help fight the pain one encounters from going under the tattoo needle. So in order to get this natural high, one may simple go get another tattoo. There are cases of extreme addiction where people are so tied up and conceived by body modifications that they cross the line between fashion and culture and have gone down right insane. Over modification can hurt your body as your body is just skin which can take so much and no more. They itch like cocaine addicts, counting down the days until their next tattoo appointment. A tattoo artist has the power to decline someone tattoos at anytime if he/she believes that the person is simply addicted to the tattoo needle.

No matter how we look at it, love it, hate it or simply don't care. Tattoos and piercings are here to stay. People will always try to do things to get peoples attention, body modification many times help that to happen. People often will try to do crazy things to outdo each other and will simply modify and tattoo their bodies beyond the scope of even loosing their identification. But to many, it's cool, it's hot, it's trendy, it's is a fashion statement. What will your fashion statement be? Will you be getting a tattoo today? Or will you be piercing those hidden places? Well, whatever you do, ensure that it is done well.

I always wonder why one person and not the other. Interesting concept this body art. As an old conservative white fart I reckon I should be judgmental. But it is just too damned interesting to reject out of hand.
