The Art of Tattooing
According to the Wikipedia
"A tattoo is a form of body modification, made by inserting indelible ink into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment."
Tattooing has been practiced for many centuries all over the world and no one knows the exact origin.
There are 5 types of tattoos according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
- Traumatic tattoos (Natural tattoos)
Termed for the marks left over due to some accident or injuries
- Amateur tattoos
- Professional tattoos
- Medical tattoos
is a kind of tattoos that is used to convey medical info about the host like blood group or some medical condition etc. They are also used to mark a position in the body to ensure instruments are properly located for repeated surgeries (eg: radiotherapy)
- Cosmetic tattoos
is a kind of permanent make up in which any discoloration or abnormality(moles, surgical scars) in the skin is eliminated or 'hidden' with the aid of surgery.
Tattooing is the process of placing a pigment into the second layer of skin, the dermis. The outer layer is epidermis. Traditional tattooing methods aren't widely used now. The most modern tattooing method is the electric tattoo machine. The electric machine has a group of needles which you can control independently of together which is connected to an oscillating machine. This machine drives the needles in and out of the skin to produce the desired pattern. These are single usable needles and must be changed after every tattooing process. At most care should be taken to avoid infection, the machine, needles etc should be sterilized before use.
