Getting a healthy skin does not have to be a struggle. Using some simple skincare and basic everyday techniques, anybody can have clear skin that glows. The key to getting glowing skin is that you need to keep it healthy. Unhealthy skin can't look healthy without makeup. A natural glow comes from within and it does take a few days to start seeing results.
Here are some simple things you can do to get clear and glowing skin by making a few changes in your skincare and dietary routines.
To sum it all up, you'll need to exfoliate your skin weekly, wash with a gentle cleanser, or an even better and more natural home-made alternative (read on!) and finally, keep your skin hydrated by drinking water or certain tea's that help fight against free radicals.
Step 1: Exfoliate your skin weekly
To get glowing skin one of the simplest things you can do is exfoliate it. There are products that are designed as light exfoliators and can be used everyday, and there are others that are more abrasive and are designed to be used 2-3 times a week.
Choose an everyday exfoliator (Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant or use a home-made sugar scrub) if you know you will take the time to use it every night, or every morning.
Pick a harsher exfoliator (St. Ives Apricot Scrub) that is used 2-3 a week if you know you do not want to use an exfoliator every day.
Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells that are still clinging onto your skin. Your body sheds these skin cells naturally, but it takes longer to get rid of the ones underneath by just washing your face and rubbing it with a towel, (which is not something to do, if you are looking to prevent wrinkles regardless).
After exfoliation make sure you use a moisturizer to act as a protective barrier for the cells you just sloughed off. A moisturizer with SPF (aim for 15 or higher) will help prevent dullness caused my sun damage as you age.

Step 2: Use Honey to Brighten and Soften Skin
To get clear skin you could, of course, use an acne medication with Salicylic acid, which is normally an over-the-counter drug in low doses, and is found in most acne fighting products.
However, you could also use a rather surprisingly effective alternative: Honey. It has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and with a few regular uses, you should notice a difference in your skin. World of Honey has some great information and statistics on using honey as an acne remedy, if you are interested. Although if you want to skip the stats, here is a simple acne-honey recipe for getting clear skin.

- Nutmeg/Cinnamon (or both)
Take 2-3 tablespoons of honey and put it in a jigger (a shot glass).
Add in a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg, whichever you have sitting around, or you can use a pinch of both.
Mix it well and use the back of a spoon to smear it on your face (tie your hair back, it will be a sticky mess otherwise).
Leave it sit for about 15 minutes, (30 if you have more time to relax), then wash it off, scrubbing gently as you go.
- If you decide to use this mask, you CAN use it everyday and you will not need to use an exfoliator like in step 1, since the nutmeg or cinnamon, will gently exfoliate for you.
- If you have any left over, do not throw it out, you can cover it with plastic wrap and keep it for weeks somewhere away from the sun.
Step 3: Fight Free Radicals with Green Tea
For healthy skin it is important to keep hydrated and keep free-radicals that damage your skin, at bay. If you already drink a lot of water, then stick with it, or switch to green tea, if it isn't a big deal to you.
If you do not drink a lot of water, then fear not, you will not have to. Technically. Make a pitcher of green tea, (make it, do not buy it already made!) and add honey to sweeten it instead of sugar, or leave it unsweetened completely. Drink a cup a day instead of soda. You can keep the pitcher in the refrigerator in the summer for iced tea and it will still have the same effect.
Green tea is another natural remedy for skin since it fights free radicals (unstable molecules that cause damage to the stable DNA in your cells) which cause those classic signs of aging like wrinkles and sagging skin. WebMD has good scientific explanations on green tea for the skin, and even against cancer so check out the link if you are interested, or see my other article on the benefits of various teas for the skin.
