Saree is one of the most favourite attires amongst South East Asian women and is generally worn at weddings, functions or official events. Since, wearing sarees require some preparation such as choosing the saree, getting the blouse tailor made and either purchasing a readymade matching petticoat to be worn underneath or having one stitched, ladies tend to plan early on. Even more than deciding on the saree itself, women tend to be confused about the saree blouse design as a lot depends on the blouse style. Taking that into account, I am sharing 7 different styles of saree blouse designs with both front and back picture of the blouse that can be worn with different types of saris and with these different looks can be achieved perfect for various occasions. These 7 types saree blouse designs are not in any particular order and there is no number 1 blouse design of the year.
With transparent or semi-transparent sarees such as chiffon saree, georgette saree, net saree, muslin sarees, etc blouses encrusted with pearls and stones are very popular amongst ladies. Pearl alone or accompanied by stones on blouses look very gorgeous and is a very feminine embellishment. As the blouse with pearls and/or stones give a very regal and sophisticated look, to maintain that throughout the outfit, it is best to be worn with sarees of one tone or shaded shares (soothing colours) with no embellishment or minimum embellishment or design on the saree itself. Find below pictures of sarees worn with designer pearl blouses.
Mirror work saree blouse designs have stolen the show this wedding season with its dazzle and has indeed stolen a few hearts too. Mirror work is no new invention and yet it has maintained a low profile for some years but it has re-surfaced with full throttle and is making statements in the fashion world along with the general fashionable ladies out there. To achieve a glamorous look all that is needed is a beautifully designed mirror work blouse that is best worn, again, with simple transparent or semi-transparent sarees made of materials such as chiffons, nets, georgettes or muslin. The blouse itself is so glamorous that wearing a heavily adorned saree would made the outfit a bit gaudy which I am sure none of the ladies what! The amazing thing about mirror work blouse is that various looks can be achieved depending on the thread colours used to sew on the mirrors. For a sombre and sophisticated look it is best to use one thread colour which matches the saree itself. For a louder look suitable for haldis (holuds) and mehendi (mehedi event) multi-coloured threads look very fetching.
Half and half sarees are great, especially if the anchal or achol or what is called the pallu of the saree is transparent, i.e. made of net material or other transparent material. That way the lady can wear both opaque and transparent material in one saree. With the top part being transparent, it is easy to flaunt the blouse design, especially if it’s a sexy blouse design as the one I am sharing below. Sequins coated materials are a great choice for achieving a sexy and bold look when it comes to wearing sarees. Below is an example of a very sexy sequins saree blouse with cross back that can be worn with half and half sarees with top parts transparent as shown in the picture. Here she is wearing a purple sequins blouse with backless cross designed back worn with a net and jute katan half and half saree.
If the above crossed back saree blouse is too sexy to wear for any lady but her desire to wear sequins blouse is not quenched, she can always wear a sequins blouse with a tiny sleeve and a big triangle shaped window back new design as depicted in the picture below of the lady wearing a very beautiful indigo coloured saree with very strategically placed designs on the saree border.
The blouse design with the blend of two materials, one transparent like net or chiffon and another opaque like silk, katan or satin or any other opaque material is in. The transparent material can either be plain or have embroidery designs and this part does not have any lining material, therefore it remains see-through and the shoulders can be seen. I usually refer to this style as the curtained back sarie blouse design. This type of blouse can be worn with both gorgeous sarees and plain sarees.
Two Material Saree Blouse Designs:
Brocade is another fabric which is very versatile in nature and can be mixed and matched with other fabric to achieve the look desired. Brocade is a popular material for blouse when one thinks of katan sarees or benarasi sarees. Brocade blouses can also be worn with net sarees and chiffon sarees. Even a simple brocade halter neck blouse looks very classy. Among the materials that look very classy, brocade is amongst the top contenders. To achieve a very traditional look, three quarter length sleeves would be the perfect choice.
Lace is one of the most feminine materials when it comes to fabrics and is a much-loved by women in general. Lace having its unique feature of cover and show is also a very versatile material with which to make blouses for saris. Different coloured lining materials can be used to highlight the pattern on the lace itself. To maintain a sombre appearance, matching coloured lining for the blouse and leaving out lining for the shoulders or arms is a great choice.
