Show Darrell Wallace Jr some respect

Bubba Wallace Jr found himself in the center of a firestorm after advocating for the removal of the confederate flag at NASCAR races and received even more flack for championing progressive policies in the sport. This isn't going to be about any of that though.

See, the problem is that NASCAR fans can't see past Bubba Wallace Jr's personal beliefs, which he is entitled to, and just see him as a untalented whiner that isn't deserving of his spot. With that being said however, he has proven over and over again that he is deserving of his ride at Richard Petty Motorsports.

Not only is that evident by how consistent he was in The Xfinity Series, but also by what he has been able to do with subpar equipment at RPM over the last couple of years. If nothing else, this man is doing the best he can with what he has been given and deserves consideration for another ride in 2021.

Interestingly enough, rumors have been running rampant that Wallace could land at Chip Gannassi Racing or even Hendrick Motorsports next season, which really should be some level of proof of his abilities. Beyond that, his ability to court big name sponsors like Beats by Dre is proof that that this man is money.

Unfortunately for a very talented Bubba Wallace Jr, NASCAR fans don't see that. All they see is a man that is changing the sport that they love and they can't fathom the thought of NASCAR becoming more progressive. Again, that's the problem with fans though. They want it their way!

And to top it all off, they are so blind by his stances on politics that shouldn't even matter on race day they are unable to see the man's true talent. In fact, they aren't even willing to look past his political history and just act like he is the most undeserving talent in the entire sport.

Keep in mind that this is a man who runs in the top-25 on a weekly basis, has four top-ten's this season and has a lot of buzz around him at the moment. While that might not translate into a playoff position this season, a good sponsorship deal and a new ride could make him a title contender next year.

In the end, NASCAR fans need to put some respect on this man's name. They also need to realize that racing and politics are two different things and that they shouldn't demonize the man for his beliefs. Furthermore, they need to be more open to his ideas and treat him like the Superstar he is.

Think about it! This man. This brave, intelligent, maverick of man entered a sport that had a very divisive racial history. With that being said, he still took on the challenge head on and has been flourishing ever since. That's not an easy thing to do and it needs to be respected.

Bubba Wallace Jr. Needs to give respect before I'd give him respect

Keith Wiles on September 01, 2020:

Bubba needs to earn the respect of the Nascar fans since they are ultimately the people who support the sport he chose to compete in. And that needs to be done on the track and off. He has been given an opportunity to be there because he's Black, going through the Nascar Diversity Program. And he's run with it gaining a fan base because of his outgoing personality, doing things like going out in a rain delay and throwing the football with fans in the stage. And he's had some good runs in sub par equipment but so has other drivers. But he's also whined about it acting like a spoiled child. When there are lots of drivers who'd love to be in that car. Who have put in their time in much more under funded teams.

But teams in nascar hasn't been giving the nod to drivers based on driving ability for a long time. They need drivers who look good to sponsors who want commercials etc so they make money. And Bubba had been doing a pretty good job at gaining popularity with fans. Until he wanted to take advantage of his platform by driving a Black Lives Matter car and running his mouth every time he got a chance about his personal opinions.

And it's working great as far as getting sponsors & offers of good rides, because they want to seem politically correct. So he's getting all of this because he's black. Not his driving skill being better than the next guy. Anybody can get a good car to drive if they have the right amount of sponsor money. But Bubba being respected by the fans? He has a long ways to go to earn that back. And I'm not saying his beliefs are wrong or right. But they should have stayed his and his alone.

He for sure won't get it on the track until he can win a race. As far as off the track....He'll get my respect when he gives it in return. The end.

Ricky Jenkins on August 31, 2020:

NASCAR doesn't need to put respect on his name, he needs to go out and earn it on the track DRIVING the car not behind a microphone

Johnny Castle on August 31, 2020:

Yes bubba Wallace should keep politics out of the sport and he's the one stirred up ban the Confederate flag from the sport NASCAR knows how many fans especially Talladega race has Confederate flags om there vehicles

Karen Seay on August 31, 2020:

then he needs to realize racing and politics are 2 different things and KEEP HIS POLITICS out of it
