Why Don't We Have Inline Skating in the Us Olympic Games? (Updated)

Is it the blades vs. the wheels?

Why is inline speed skating, considered less of a sport than speed skating on ice? Are the inline speed skaters considered less of an athlete?

I don't think it could be the skaters themselves, these skaters are just as dedicated to their sport as any other athlete, so it must be the skates. Is it the blades vs. the wheels? No? Then why are inline skaters snubbed or ignored?

Kevin and I talked about this before and I decided to write this hub in Tribute to these fantastic skaters, their families and support groups. And also to ask the US Olympic Governing body to represent these athletes the same as the ice skaters.

I have tried numerous times to reach the Olympic Committee to ask them to add In-Line skating to the Olympic games. On one particular day, I was passed around to at lease 8 different people.

Q. Why will these people not hear me?

The seventh wildfire just broke out

A little bit about what is going on with son Kevin and grandson Johnny.

A couple of hours before their arrival in Colorado I read that The seventh wildfire just broke out, this one about 30 miles from Denver. -- Source: The Los Angeles Times by Michael Muskal.

Posted on FaceBook by Kevin June, 19, 2013 at 8:22 am, "Landed safely ..Probably going to run into the burned out areas of Colorado Springs.." — At the Denver International Airport - United Airlines Red Carpet Club.

"Fires still on the outskirts of Colorado Springs...this is real terrible, people losing their homes."

Johnny practiced on the banked track at the Olympic Training Center.

Update from Johnny's father: 6-20-2013, 12:55pm, Colorado Springs Colorado. Stopping off for lunch right now.. then we are heading for a little sightseeing...still several fires that aren't under control..local cable has one station that shows every interstate for 15 seconds at a time on fixed cameras...much more informative than that of a reporter standing next to Eden's expressway, worrying about her hairdo..

While the wildfires were still blazing, we were praying that Kevin and Johnny were nowhere near them.

The amazing athletes

These amazing skaters are just as talented as the (ice) speed skaters in the US Olympic Games. Just as dedicated and they work just as hard.

Q. Why are they not recognized as the athletes they are?

Q. Is it because they are not on Ice? Actually in-line skating is harder, their skating area is not always smooth like ice.

How do the US Olympic ice skaters stay fit in the summer?

Message to me: "Shyron...someone told me the guy who finished second was on the US OLYMPIC long track ice team : ))))))"

Kev, This must be how the Olympic skaters stay in shape, during ice melts. Inline skaters, can skate all year long inside and outside depending on the weather.

What is the Difference between these athletes, other than Blades and Wheels? Other than that I do not see a difference.

Calling and email the International Olympics Commission

Determined to do my part to get the US Olympic Governing to recognize these wonderful athletes.

I called the Athletic Center for the US Olympics and spoke with Cathy, I ask her why inline skating is not featured in the US Olympics. Cathy was very nice and said she did not know and gave me the number for the National Governing Body of the US Olympics. I called the number 1-402-483-7551, the message was that no one would be in the office until July 1st.

I called 719-866-4529, and was referred to 719-866-4241 I spoke with a very nice young lady and asked why inline skating was not a featured sport.

She referred me to the International Olympics Commission, she said that it was under consideration and gave me the email address pressoffice@olympic.org to request that Inline skating be a featured sport in the upcoming Olympics.

Please, if you think the inline skaters should be included, in the Olympic Games, send an email to the address above.

Johnny Rocket's Story

Johnny started skating at nine years old, when a skating coach noticed a skinny kid on quad skates. Johnny had lost one of the wheels on one skate. The coach skated after him in hopes of catching and getting him off the floor so he would not get hurt, but he could not catch him. That is how he got the nickname 'Johnny Rocket,' And, he has come such a long way in strength and maturity. He has become a strong athlete.

Johnny is our Grandson, although we are proud of him and his achievements, and the magnificent young man he has become. This is not just about our grandson, its much bigger than that. It is about all the skaters whose talent goes far beyond just strapping on their skates and racing. These young men and women are just as talented and dedicated as any other skater and that includes the ones on ice.

They deserve to be recognized and have their place in the US Olympic Games.

It seems once it gets into Maven they cut off the comments section. I don't know of a way to directly comment on such articles. The U.S. numbers have been in the 50K range for the past few days. India is spiking again. The fatality rate has risen a bit in the U.S., it was down to 1.66% but now it's at 1.82%. In Texas it's 1.71%. Would like to know what Singapore is doing that keeps their fatality rate so low.
