What Are Marine Engine Mounts and How Do You Use Them?

Marine engine mounts are products used to isolate shocks and vibrations while minimizing noise in stationary and mobile equipment. The vibration can cause damage to the engine, which can lead to malfunctioning and expensive repairs. Another benefit is that the mount will keep the boat’s hull from rusting while in use. Most marine engine mounts have a rubber padding on top of them, which will absorb any oil or water that spills from your boat’s engine. Here are several types of marine engine mounts.

Type K25V

This is the most common type of marine engine mount. The mount has a small rubber pad placed on top of the engine.

Rubber pads will absorb any vibration from the engine and prevent damage. This mount type is also extremely light, making it perfect for smaller boats. The mount has a high-grade steel base that will hold the engine in place.

Type HY

HY is similar to the K25V, but it is more durable. The rubber pad has a more substantial look and feels to it. This amount is also more affordable, but it does not have as good a base as the K25V. However, this type of mount will still hold your engine in place while in use.

Type LMX

LMX marine engine mount comes with the capability to provide allowing considerable thrust and optimum vibration damping.

It is made up of a cast iron base and slightly heavier than the K25V and the HY, but it still has a rubber pad on top to absorb any vibration from the engine. This mount type also has a more substantial look and feel, making it more durable.

Type K

You can get this type of mount in three different core hardness levels. Typically, they are used with small engines of up to 80hp and mounted on either stern or bow.

Mitsteun

This type of mount comprises a cast iron base and a rubber pad to absorb any vibration from the engine. It has a more substantial look and feels than other mounts, making it durable. This amount is also more affordable, but it does not have as good a base as the K25V and the HY.

When it comes to choosing a suitable mount, there are many things to consider. Some factors that you should consider are the type of engine you have, the kind of boat you will be mounting it on, how much money you want to spend, and how important it is to you. A good rule of thumb is that if something will not break or tear easily, it is a good bet that it will last for many years.
