India's most successful bowler in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup winning effort was Vicky Ostwal.
Vicky Ostwal, India's most successful bowler in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup-winning campaign, revealed that he has always looked up to India's all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja because of his versatility. Ostwal was selected by the Delhi Capitals in the recently concluded IPL 2022 auctions for INR 20 lakhs.
India's Under-19 World Cup squad members from the 2022 batch fetched a high price at the recently concluded IPL auctions in Bengaluru, as franchises expressed a desire to invest in future prospects. Vicky Ostwal was one of the most promising youngsters, finishing as his country's leading wicket-taker with 12 scalps at an average of 13.33 to help his side win the prestigious title for a record-extending fifth time.
Ostwal was also named to the Under-19 World Cup Most Valuable Team. His outstanding performance in the successful Caribbean campaign earned him an IPL contract with the Delhi Capitals (DC), the previous season's finalist, at his base price of INR 20 lakhs.
Ostwal revealed in a video posted on the official IPL website that he aspires to be like Ravindra Jadeja in the future.
"I've always looked up to Ravindra Jadeja; he's my role model." Because of the type of player he is, he contributes in bowling, batting, and, most importantly, fielding. "He's the guy that every team wants on their team," Ostwal said.
Ostwal also revealed that he was nervous about the auctions because he was afraid of not being selected despite an impressive Under-19 World Cup campaign.
"I knew I did well in the T20 U-19 World Cup, but it was also a mega auction, so I assumed they'd go with their same side and there was a chance I wouldn't get picked." I had anxiety for two days and it felt great when I got it relieved.
Ostwal also expressed his excitement about competing in the IPL 2022.
"I've been a fan of the IPL since I was a kid." There was always a desire to play in the IPL because it is the largest platform available. I am overjoyed to have been chosen by the Delhi Capitals for this year's IPL. I was in my room watching the auction when my name was called. I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to play or not, but learning will always be there. Sharing the stage with some of the game's best players will be a huge learning experience for me," he said.
Ostwal will share a locker room with his Under-19 World Cup-winning captain.
Yash Dhull, whom DC chose for INR 50 lakhs. Ostwal stated that he received the first call from Dhull after receiving the IPL contract from the same franchise.
"I got a video call from him (Yash Dhull) the moment I got picked at the auction, and he showed how happy he is about me being picked by DC," he explained.
Along with Dhull and Ostwal, Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Raj Bawa, India's other Under-19 World Cup stars, found buyers at the auctions. While Bawa joined Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 2 crores, Hangargekar joined four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 1.50 crores.
