Is Thierry Henry a Muslim?
Is Thierry Henry a Muslim? Does he really profess Islam as his religion? Like that of other famous football players (Robin Van Persie and Zlatan Ibrahimovic) it is not perfectly clear whether Thierry Henry is actually a Muslim or not. While there is a lot of speculation that he could be a Muslim, there is not definite evidence, and the only man who can truly clear up the matter (Thierry Henry) is keeping his lips sealed. The former French striker was obviously born a Christian but there is speculation that he converted to Islam.
Background
The former Monaco, Arsenal and Barcelona star grew up in the south of the French capital of Paris. This city is famous for being predominantly occupied by people who profess the Islamic religion, and it is widely known that he thoroughly enjoyed the way of life of the Muslims that he experienced in his childhood.
In an interview with Aljazeera sports channel in the year 2008, Thierry Henry made a statement that convinced many that he converted to Islam or was in the process of doing it. In the video he is quoted as saying some of his best friends like Eric Abidal, Franck Ribery and Nicolas Anelka have converted to Islam. Henry has directly not stated that he is a Muslim but the fact that he says Islam is the greatest religion that is close to his heart could be a pointer and proof that Thierry Henry is indeed a Muslim. However, his roots in Paris and the Catholic religion of his parents also make it possible that he is NOT a Muslim.
However, in an interview with world soccer in 2006, when asked about his religious beliefs Henry refused to state it which means we are left with more questions than answers regarding his religious beliefs. It's also possible that Henry doesn't adhere to any specific religion at all. What we do know, however, is that he is a phenomenal football player.
