Sunday Super Bowl Event
No other event in American culture is more attended, talked about, planned for except this one day. The 12 minutes of magic is the half-time show which has grown to become a global event in and of itself.
Vince Lombardi Trophy
The Vince Lombardi Trophy is the trophy awarded each year to the winning team of the National Football League's championship game, the Super Bowl. The trophy has been awarded since 1967, when the Super Bowl was originally named the AFL-NFL World Championship Game.
In 1970 the trophy was renamed in memory of legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi. Lombardi was revered as a football coach for his victories in the first two Super Bowls. He died suddenly from cancer. The naming of the trophy was to honor his achievements and serve as a lasting memorial for his leadership.
According to Wikipedia, "the trophy, created by Tiffany & Co. is valued at $25,000, and depicts a regulation-size football in kicking position that is made entirely of sterling silver, standing 22 inches (56 cm) tall, weighing 7 pounds (3.2 kg), it takes approximately four months and 72 man-hours to create. The words "Vince Lombardi Trophy" are engraved and the NFL shield is affixed in a separate item onto the base. After the trophy is awarded, it is sent back to Tiffany's to be engraved with the winning team's name, the date and final score of the Super Bowl, and then is sent back to the winning team for them to keep."
The Team Member's Rings - The Super Bowl Ring
Priceless Badge of Honor - Ultimate Symbol of a Champion
The Super Bowl ring celebrates the individual players, the team members, the coaches. It is an enduring symbol of the team victory and their standard of excellence. The Super Bowl ring is a symbol of the team members courage, hard work and standard of excellence.
As Wikipedia has detailed:
"The Super Bowl ring is an award in the National Football League given to the members of the winning team of the league's annual championship game, the Super Bowl.
These rings are typically made of yellow or white gold with diamonds. They usually include the team name, team logo, and Super Bowl number (usually indicated in Roman numerals). The NFL pays for the cost of 150 rings to the winning team, at roughly $5,000 apiece, depending upon the fluctuating cost of gold and diamonds. The winning team can typically present rings to whomever they choose, including usually, but not limited to: players (active roster or injured), coaches, trainers, executives, personnel, and general staff. Some teams have also been known to give rings to former players, despite not having been on the winning roster. Teams can distribute any number of rings, but must pay for any over the 150-ring limit.
Many rings feature diamonds in the shape of the Vince Lombardi Trophy or a football. Some feature diamonds or gold in the shape of a team logo. Others illustrate the number of Super Bowls that franchise has won. Also, the rings are customized with the player's name and uniform number.
Replicas of the rings for various years are popular collectibles, along with genuine rings. Dave Meggett is known to have placed his ring for sale on eBay. Two Super Bowl rings from the 1970 Steelers sold on eBay for over $32,000 apiece in mid-2008.Patriots safety Je'Rod Cherry raffled his ring from Super Bowl XXXVI in November 2008 to benefit several charities working to help children in Africa and Asia."

Champion Poem
"Champion" Poem
You fear the loss and pain of defeat
But still are able to stand on two feet
You crumble and cry as much as you want
But nothing can keep you away from the hunt
This is what you’ve been working for
The pride and honor as you take to the floor
You remember the struggles and pain you had
When all the good had turned to bad
When behind the scenes you crumbled and prayed
For it all to simply just go away
The doubt and regrets of what you went through
Sometimes just made you want to give it to
The next girl in line that had gave it her all
But always seemed to carry a fall
You remember the times when you thought to give up
But could never find a reason to disrupt
Anything and everything that you had given to the sport
The hearts desire and all the support
But when the pressure builds and tears you apart
How are you able to not depart
How are you able to still carry a smile
When everything inside is in a pile
You hold your head high and never look back
Because this is what keeps you all intact
It’s what runs in your veins, and it’s the key to your heart
And it’s only the beginning, only the start
It holds a future that could never be told
One that can shine with the brightest of gold
The sky is its limits
And with the mood as its guide
As no one could ever predict how high
One could travel with the hard work put in
To truly become a champion

New York Giants Ring - 2012
The New York Giants also known as Big Blue wanted their super bowl ring to stand out. Originally the ring was designed in white gold and diamonds. The blue was added for distinction and to celebrate their moniker. Additionally, the ring has the words "Finish" and "All in" engraved inside the ring. The words were inspirational phrases the team used during the 2011 season.

Seahawks Super Bowl XLVIII Championship Ring
Favorite Ring
My favorite championship ring of all time is the 2013 white gold Seahawks Super Bowl XLVIII. It almost matches my wedding ring with the blue sapphires but alas my ring has two sapphires and this massive ring has 40 - count them - yes forty blue sapphires, and oh, I did forget to highlight the 64 round diamonds not to mention the 107 round diamonds encompassing the world "World Champions". I think this ring is not only filled with plenty of bling but look t the history - it encompasses the the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Brilliant design and exquisite execution. But I still delight in my tiny wedding ring with only two sapphires and one diamond.

Would You Wear This Super Bowl Ring?
6.5 Carats and $32,000 Super Bowl Ring
Rumor tells me that this ring is 6.5 carats of diamonds and for friends and family to purchase it would be $32,000 (20-30% smaller than the players ring) - but there are various options from gold, to white gold, etc...
The group I was with made an interesting comment - they felt no one other than the players should have access to the ring.
Other team members from coaches to executive staff members are offered a similar ring - a little bit smaller and from what I hear they must pay for the ring. Board members and the players as I understand it (please correct me IF I am wrong) are given the historic and world renown ring.
What do you think is appropriate? If given a chance, would you wear this ring? And most importantly, would you be willing to spend $32,000 for the privilege of wearing this ring?

gracenotes,
Isn't the culture of the Super Bowl fun - from the players to the rings to the trophy.
Bart Starr is a top favorite with my husband. Seems like a great man and a great hero.
gracenotes from North Texas on February 09, 2011:
I had to come back and say CONGRATULATIONS to the Packers. I'm so glad they won the Super Bowl.
Regarding the SB rings, I watched an interview with Bart Starr about two hours before the game started, and I observed his hands closely as he was gesturing and talking. Yes, indeed he was wearing that Super Bowl ring that I like so much!
Kelly Kline Burnett from Madison, Wisconsin on February 03, 2011:
gracenotes,
You bring an important point here - the Wikipedia is probably giving a "realistic" price. I was watching Pawn Stars and have added Rick's favorite item in his store - the Patriot Ring (Patriot verses Rams) - the largest ring ever made. I have added the link to the video - fascinating story and of course Rick from the Pawn Store is always fascinating.
Price tag - $100,000!
gracenotes from North Texas on February 02, 2011:
Well GmaGoldie, this truly is a spectacular hub -- especially made so by the Vince Lombardi quotes. And I'll have to say, it is the three-diamond SB ring with the green background (1968) of the Packers that I'm so taken with. I also like the Baltimore Colts ring with the horseshoe.
It's hard for me to believe they go for $5000, and I'm thinking that the Wikipedia article might be giving a modest estimate for the cost of the ring, especially since the price of gold is so high.
Kelly Kline Burnett from Madison, Wisconsin on July 07, 2010:
Phillyfreeze69,
I put in a ton of effort on this Hub and I am so joyous to see someone noticed! I work in Green Bay and with the Packers I felt I needed to know more about sports and specifically the NFL. Thank you so much for your uplifting words.

I'm just glad that I stumble upon this awesome Hub...it truly is an excellent reference resource. The time and effort that you put into this piece is quite evident. Thanks again.

Phillyfreeze69,
Oh, your kind words warmed my heart. You see sports is difficult for me. I spend allot of time in Green Bay and felt I needed to know a few NFL items with the culture of Green Bay being centered around the Packers. I worked very hard on this Hub - I am so glad someone noticed.
I have never seen a Super Bowl ring - wow!
Love the BMW tidbit - I know many a car history buff - thank you for sharing the info.
Phillyfreeze69 on July 06, 2010:
This is the most comprehensive Hub on the history of the Super Bowl and the man the ultimate football trophy is named after-Vince Lombardi. I enjoyed reading the quotes by the legendary coach and excellent photos of Super Bowl rings from throughout the years. I had the opportunity to see both of Deion Branch's rings from Super Bowl XXXIII and Super Bowl XXXIX( he earned MVP with 11 receptions for a total of 133 yards). Branch, Manning and Ward are the only Super Bowl MVP's that last name initials are the same as the legendary Germany auto manufacturer Barvarian Motor Werks. I voted this Hub up and I am definitely bookmarking for future reference. Excellent Hub GmaGoldie.
