NFL Division Predictions

Welcome to Baller Central!!!! Basketball and Football articles created by Phil and Akeem

Football is back ladies, gentlemen, and non gender conforming people!!!!! And while it may be a little early to predict winners of each division, here we are. So we’ll giving our “expert” opinion on which teams we think are in and which ones are out.

AFC North

Last year the Ravens ran away with the division while the Steelers almost secured the wild card. The Browns struggled after high expectations and the Bengals were the worst team but ended up getting LSU QB Joe Burrow to help turn things around.

Last year the Ravens ran away with the division while the Steelers almost secured the wild card. The Browns struggled after high expectations and the Bengals were the worst team but ended up getting LSU QB Joe Burrow to help turn things around.

Phil's Prediction

The AFC North might be sneakily competitive this year. The Ravens did get better by bulking up that D-Line with Calais Campbell. The Steelers got better by getting their QB in Big Ben back also gaining another weapon by drafting Chase Claypool to help relieve pressure off of JuJu. The Browns got better in adding former Falcons tight end Austin Hooper. The Bengals even got better by getting their wideout AJ Green back and also drafting arguably the best QB in the draft in LSU's Joe Burrow. With all that being said I have the Ravens winning the division but it will be a fight with the Pittsburgh Steelers and their tough defense. They have a better QB now so expect the Steelers to be more competitive. The Ravens are one of the best teams and expect them to continue to play like it.

Akeem's Prediction

One of my best friends is a Ravens fan and he fully expects the to win this division. I would have to agree wholeheartedly. Not saying that there’s no one in the division that can compete with them but... there’s no one in the team that will make it close enough to where I’m worried about them losing. I know that’s putting all my eggs in one basket, but I’m willing to take that risk. And the bengals do have AJ Green back so that’s nice for their offense. But the game is more than just throwing it. Plus he’s only one person and can’t do it all by himself.

AFC East

Last year the Patriots and Bills both made the playoffs while the Jets and Dolphins struggled. It is a whole new division with Brady leaving the division and a lot of Patriots opting out due to corona. Everyone else improved while the Pats didn't.

Phil's Prediction

Now as a Patriots fan this may sound completely biased but I DO NOT CARE. The Patriots will win the division this year after everything that happened this offseason. It might not be pretty but they will get the job done. They lost Brady and multiple defensive players to free agency and opt outs but they did sign Cam Newton. That might not be much but you guys got to remember that it's the AFC East. The Dolphins even though they improved a lot aren't ready yet, the Jets are the Jets so no worries, and the biggest competition to the Pats are the bills which just announced that Josh Norman has been put on IR. They Bills have a great defense but their offense has struggled. The Pats will barely win the division calling it now.

Akeem's Prediction

This division is a tough one. Not because of the level of competition. But because I could honestly care less who wins this. Is that bad to say? It’s alright. Now being from New England, most people would assume that I am a fan of the patriots. Quite the contrary actually. My team is in an entirely different division. However, I do think the patriots are going to win this division. Miami has potential. But not this year. The jets are well...a team. And I use that term loosely. Well let’s move on. So I guess by default, I have to go with New England.

AFC South

The Texans won the division last year while the Titans claimed wild card spot and made a surprising run all the way to the AFC Championship led by Derrick Henry. The Colts struggled with their first post-Luck season and the Jaguars also struggled.

The Texans won the division last year while the Titans claimed wild card spot and made a surprising run all the way to the AFC Championship led by Derrick Henry. The Colts struggled with their first post-Luck season and the Jaguars also struggled.

Phil's Predictions

For me it's honestly a toss up between the Texans and the Titans for me. The Texans lost D-Hop while the Titans lost Logan Ryan. If I had to choose though I would go with the Titans to win because the Texans have too much going against them. They lost one of the best wide receivers in the league so when the terrible O-Line of the Texans struggles Watson doesn't have that security blanket of Hopkins to throw to. While the Titans still have Derrick Henry. I see them as a slightly better team despite losing defensive players like Logan Ryan, Jurrell Casey, and Wesley Woodyard. They will have to rely heavily on King Henry and I am sure he is up for the challenge. Plus having Jadeveon Clowney always helps.

Akeem's Predictions

Despite the loss they took on Thursday I’m still going with the Texans to win. They have the best, if not second best quarterback in Deshaun Watson. He’s agile, throws well and just overall really good. While losing Hopkins does pose a threat because he doesn’t have as many down the field options other than Will Fuller. But the addition of David Johnson well at least provide him with an option outside of Fuller. While the Titans have Henry to be their workhouse for the foreseeable future,I still don’t see them beating the Texans overall. But it’ll be interesting to see how it unfolds.

AFC West

The Chiefs won the division last year while the Raiders and Chargers put up good fights while the Broncos showed slight improvements.

The Chiefs won the division last year while the Raiders and Chargers put up good fights while the Broncos showed slight improvements.

Phil's Prediction

The chiefs are set to defend their title after giving Mahomes and Chris Jones huge extensions. I see them having a commanding hold over this division. The Chargers will struggle after losing a lot of close games and also losing long time Charger Philip Rivers. The Raiders are improving year after year and with rookie WR Henry Ruggs joining the ranks they can only go up. Then we look at the Broncos who could be an interesting team even though they lost their best player in Von Miller for the season. Courtland Sutton is one of the rise and you include one of the best WRs in the draft in Jerry Jeudy the passing game for the Broncos look promising it is just up to Drew Lock to put it all together. At the end of the day the Chiefs are still the Chiefs so I see them being just as dominant.

Akeem's Prediction

After the game I saw half of on Thursday (went to sleep during halftime), the Chiefs look even scarier than they did last year. They already had immense offensive threats in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. But now they’ve added some new firepower with rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire. This isn’t to take anything away from any of the other teams in the division. Because I fully believe the other teams have areas where they are strong. But comparing them to the Chiefs is unfair. If the chargers still had rivers I’d put them closer to the caliber of players the chiefs possess. But I feel like it’ll be tough to compete with them. The raiders used to be decent once upon a time. But I feel like once Amari Cooper left, so did the hopes of them being relevant. Sorry... The Broncos have certain tools but even still, it’s not enough to make them big competition. Although I do have their tight end on my fantasy team. I don’t think he can do it by himself.

AFC Wild Cards

Last years wild card teams for the AFC were the Bills and Titans. This year the NFL added one more wild card team to make it three so only the number one seed will have a bye.

Last years wild card teams for the AFC were the Bills and Titans. This year the NFL added one more wild card team to make it three so only the number one seed will have a bye.

Phil's Predictions

Now that the NFL has seven teams making the playoffs instead of six this gives teams even more chances to make it. I have the Steelers (5th Seed), Bills (6th Seed), and Browns (7th Seed) to be the wild cards this year. The Steelers already have a good defense and now that they have their QB back in Big Ben expect them to make the playoffs. They struggled with QB play last year and now that the situation is fixed they will make some noise. For the Bills they made the playoffs as a wild card last year and expect the same this year. With Josh Allen growing as a QB and now that Stefon Diggs is joining the team expect the offense to be a lot better. Hopefully Devin Singletary controls that fumbling problem or they might have to turn to rookie Zach Moss which has received a lot of hype in training camp. The seventh seed may be a controversial choice but I believe in the Browns. They learned from their mistakes last year after all the hype and made some changes. I full expect Baker Mayfield to bounce back and Nick Chubb to be dominant. The Browns D is also very underrated so look out for them.

Akeem's Predictions

I’d have to agree with the Steelers being 5th seed. They have Big Ben at full strength back. That should definitely be an upgrade from last season. So I feel like they’ll be a force to be reckoned with. I’d actually like to switch Phil’s picks. I think the Browns will be 6th seed and the Bills will be 7th. I still am unsure with the browns. They feel very up and down. They could play great or play really horribly. So they are very hit or miss. We’ll have to see how it plays out. Now the Bills have potential. With Beasley and John brown there’s at least options to have the bell thrown to. So this division wild card will be kind of...a toss up. For lack of a better word.

NFC North

The Vikings and Packers were fighting for the division last year until the Packers clinched it late in the season. The Bears continued to have QB troubles while the Lions had trouble with the refs.

The Vikings and Packers were fighting for the division last year until the Packers clinched it late in the season. The Bears continued to have QB troubles while the Lions had trouble with the refs.

Phil's Prediction

This year the division will be fought once again between the Vikings and the Packers. This time around I have the Vikings winning the division even with the loss of Stefon Diggs and of Everson Griffen, Linval Joseph, Trae Waynes, Mackensie Alexander, Xavier Rhodes, Stephen Weatherly, Andrew Sendejo and Jayron Kearse. They brought in LSU WR Justin Jefferson and traded for Jags DE Yannick Ngakoue. The reason i say this despite a ton of loss is that the Packers are on the decline. Also there might be some trust issues forming when the Packers drafted Jordan Love. The Packers are pulling an Aaron Rodgers on Aaron Rodgers. For GB to be competitive the WRs around Davante Adams have to show up as well as the defense.

Akeem's Prediction

Now I think 3 of the 4 teams in this division have great quarterbacks. They’ve all shown what they can do at one time or another. But that’s not the only factor that determines whether or not a team makes it far. For that reason, I’m actually going to go with the Packers to take this one. I know it might be a stretch but I just know that I’ve seen Aaron Rodgers do some things that most wouldn’t even think of trying, yet alone have a chance at completing. Now he may not many pass options other than Adams but as I said, it’s him so I think he can pull it off.

NFC East

The Eagles were the sole team to make it to the playoffs in the NFC East but didn't last long after Wentz got injured in their playoff game. The Cowboys disappointed after huge expectations and the Washington football team and Giants struggled.

The Eagles were the sole team to make it to the playoffs in the NFC East but didn't last long after Wentz got injured in their playoff game. The Cowboys disappointed after huge expectations and the Washington football team and Giants struggled.

Phil's Prediction

I have the Dallas Cowboys winning the division this year. After finally moving on from Jason Garrett expect the Cowboys to show some improvement from 8-8. They also added WR Ceedee Lamb so they have three WRs that can possibly get 1000 yards this season. Plus they have made slight improvements to the defense. Also the Giants and Washington Football Team won't be a threat this year and the only threat is the Eagles. They are already dealing with injuries so it is basically the Cowboys division to lose.

Akeem's Prediction

This may come as a shock to you all but I’m picking the Cowboys to win the division. I know it’s a complete surprise. But I think it’s finally their year. No more Jason Garrett means we may actually have a coach that’s competent enough to know what we should and shouldn’t be doing. Plus with the addition of CeeDee Lamb, this should be a great year for Dak yet again. While his record may not show it, he’s been consistently one of the top QB’s in the league since entering. I never really worry about the other teams normally. And this year is no different. The Washington (insert name here) don’t really have a leg to stand on. The eagles aren’t going to do much if Sanders doesn’t come back. And the giants are well... the giants. So we can move on.

NFC South

The Saints made the playoffs last year. The Falcons were inconsistent and so was Jameis Winston and the Bucs while the Panthers struggled. This is a whole new division with Brady, Gronk, and Fournette joining the Bucs and Teddy joining Carolina.

The Saints made the playoffs last year. The Falcons were inconsistent and so was Jameis Winston and the Bucs while the Panthers struggled. This is a whole new division with Brady, Gronk, and Fournette joining the Bucs and Teddy joining Carolina.

Phil's Prediction

This division will hands down be one of the most entertaining ones in the league. You got Brees, Brady, Ryan, and Bridgewater. All four of these teams have exciting offenses that will battle. The Saints have one of the leagues best WR and RB combos in Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara alongside future Hall of Famer Drew Brees. The Bucs have the GOAT Tom Brady who will not only be throwing to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin but also to his old buddy Rob Gronkowski. The Falcons have Matty Ice, Julio, and Calvin Ridley. The Panthers have former Vikings and Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater with former Jets WR Robby Anderson and DJ Moore with one of the best RBs in the game in Christian McCafferey. There is a lot of hype surrounded by the Bucs but I have the Saints winning the division because they are still the best team in the division and this group is battle tested. They have the team and chemistry to win this division again.

Akeem's Prediction

I’m actually really excited for this one as well. I feel like with the quarterbacks they have in this division it won’t be a landslide for any one team. I like shootouts and when things are won by a small margin. While it makes me nervous from a fantasy perspective, that’s something I can live with. With the bucs having Tom Brady now, the division just got a lot more interesting. And it was already interesting. Drew Brees can still throw the ball down field, and Matt Ryan is no slouch either. There’s some real heavy hitters in this division so it’ll be nice to see how things unfold. I’m going to have to go with Brees and the Saints. Michael Thomas is absolutely phenomenal. And while repeating his performance from last year may not happen, he’s still going to have a great year barring any setbacks.

NFC West

The Seahawks and 49ers were locked in a fight all season long where the 49ers claimed the division and the Seahawks got the fifth seed. The rams declined and traded away Ramsey. The Cardinals showed flashes and now have Hopkins to help Murray.

The Seahawks and 49ers were locked in a fight all season long where the 49ers claimed the division and the Seahawks got the fifth seed. The rams declined and traded away Ramsey. The Cardinals showed flashes and now have Hopkins to help Murray.

Phil's Prediction

This division will be the most competitive division in the NFL. The Cardinals showed flashes last year against the 49ers and after adding WR DeAndre Hopkins they are ready to take the next step. The Rams will be trying to hang in but after losing Ramsey, Gurley, and Cooks to their offense this will be a tough year for the Rams. As for the Seahawks they lost Jadeveon Clowney but with a QB like Russell Wilson on your team they can be competitive at a high level. Then we go to the 49ers who I believe will win this division. They have the league's best defense along with one of the league's best running games. They are looking to redeem themselves after a disappointing Super Bowl performance and look for them to play with a purpose this year.

Akeem's Prediction

I’m all for the Cardinals winning. That’s a little biased because I have the QB and star wide receiver. But they might have the tools to do what needs to be done. I might be putting my foot in my mouth because the Seahawks are also in the division. Note we know Russell has been performing well basically his entire career. But I just don’t feel it happening for them this year. The 49ers are going to put up a fight as well. So you can’t say this is going to be easy. Let’s see how it plays out.

NFC Wild Cards

The Seahakws and Vikings were wild cards last year where the Vikings once again upsetted the Saints. With another wild card team added who knows how the NFC will shape out.

The Seahakws and Vikings were wild cards last year where the Vikings once again upsetted the Saints. With another wild card team added who knows how the NFC will shape out.

Phil's Prediction

For the three wild cards for the NFC I have the Seahawks (5th Seed), Packers (6th Seed), and Bucs (7th Seed). The Seahawks finished as the 5th seed last year and expect them to do the same. A season long fight with the 49ers and they will end up with the 5th seed. The Packers will take a step back this season but will still be good enough to make the playoff. You can never count out Aaron Rodgers especially if Aaron Jones and Davante Adams is healthy. The Bucs could have made the playoffs last year but due to some bad throws from Jameis Winston they missed them and now that a smarter QB like Brady is under helm expect those turnovers to go down. They already have a great offense on paper. They just have to put it together on the field as well as the defense and this can be a dangerous team that can pull off some upsets.

Akeem's Prediction

I’d have to agree with Phil on these picks. Like I said, Seattle is going to fight. It’s not in them to just lay down and give it to anyone. So they’ll definitely do what is needed. The packers are the packers. It’s Aaron Rodgers. It goes without saying he’s going to put the team on his back and try and get them as far as humanly possible. And even with not being a fan of Brady, he has the weapons on the team to do some damage in the league. Should be interesting.

There’s so many options for these teams. And there’s no guarantee that our picks will even be a successful we predict. But we will see how it all plays out. I’m excited that football is back. Got you are just as excited as we are. Feel free to leave comments on who you think will make it, and even what you think of our picks!!!
