Welcome to Baller Central!!!! Basketball and Football articles created by Phil and Akeem
Who are you?
KL: My name is Kenny and I am 25 years old. I am one of the four hosts that is a part of the Inspired by True Events sport group. You can watch those videos on Youtube. I am a huge sports guy. I love all things football, basketball and baseball. You can also follow me on twitter @KLacy02.
BC: Thank you for taking time out of your day to do this interview with us.
How did you become a Falcons fan?
KL: Madden 2004. Mike Vick was an absolute cheat code in the game and I loved playing as him and the Falcons. That led to me following Mike Vick in real life so becoming a Falcons fan just happened and I haven’t looked back.
BC: Michael Vick was an absolute cheat code. There's no denying that. It makes sense how someone would become a fan of his electric style of play.
Favorite player growing up?
KL: 2 answers here. Early on it was Mike Vick. He was electrifying. I’ve never seen anything like it. I was literally mind blown every time I watched him play. After he had his legal troubles though I had to find someone else to fill that void and along came Matt Ryan. I’ve loved Matt since the day we drafted him and really believe that without him our franchise may not have turned around after the exit of Mike Vick.
BC: These are two very good picks. Both players bring something different to the table. Vick, on top of his great passing, also used his legs. Matt Ryan, while he may not be as agile, he's still an elite QB even in the later parts of his career.
Favorite game or moment?
KL: 2017 NFC Championship. We SMOKED the Packers 44-21 and the whole team just clicked right from kickoff. I remember watching this team at like week 14 of that season and really feeling like this team could be special, but everyone was riding high on Dallas and then the Packers got hot and everyone was all in on them too. Watching my boys take down Rodgers and the Packers was like validation for me. All the years of watching my team struggle or get close but never finish the job was all worth it because my team was finally going to play in the Super Bowl.
BC: This was a very good moment for the Falcons. Any time a team is considered the "underdog", especially when playing a powerhouse like Green Bay, winning the game seems that much more special. This was definitely one of those moments where being a real fan comes into play because I'm sure many people counted them out.
Thoughts on rivalry with NFC South?
KL: I can’t stand my NFC South rivals. The hate runs real deep for me. I really cannot stand the Saints, they’re for sure the top rival for me, the Bucs and Panthers I do not like at all either, but the Saints rivalry is like no other to me. Although now that the Pats have TB12 I’m sure that rivalry will only intensify.
BC: We completely understand the disdain for the other teams. No one wants to see a team from their division make it further, or do anything better than their favorite team. We're sure with Brady, that the dislike will increase. He just has that affect on people.
Thoughts on Matt Ryan?
KL: To me Matt Ryan is one of the most underrated/disrespected QBs in the NFL. He had a MVP season and has done nothing but match those numbers (or even improve on them!!!) since that season and people don’t give him the respect he deserves. To me he even makes his guys better and that’s something that people don’t point out. Taylor Gabriel was great with us, he’s been an afterthought in Chicago since leaving us. Even Mo Sanu was a decent #2 in Cincy, comes to Atlanta and is one of the best #2 WRs in the league, then he goes to NE last year and disappeared. I know I’m biased, but the guy needs more respect.
BC: We couldn't agree more. Matt Ryan is definitely underrated. Not saying he's the best QB we've ever seen step on the field, but he is without a doubt one of the best to do it.
Thoughts on Julio Jones?
KL: Julio is the best receiver in the league. I don’t care who you compare him with, the guy is the best. He does it all. No one does the things this man does and he does it all while being low key. He’s 31 years old and I think he just gets better as he ages. When it’s all said and done, we’ll be talking about Julio being one of the best ever.
BC: We can see you feel strongly about Julio. That is completely understandable. He has been a big name in the NFL since entering the league. Makes sense that you would hype him up as much as you do.
Thoughts on your draft class?
KL: I like the draft class. I don’t love it, but I really like it. We definitely addressed our needs so I can’t be mad at that. I think AJ Terrell at 16 was a reach, but after Okudah and Henderson he was the best CB available and if we didn’t take him at 16 we weren’t going to get him at all so I understand why we grabbed him there. I LOVE the pick of Marlon Davidson in the second round. The kid is an absolute beast and I think putting him on the line next to Grady Jarrett is going to be great. And my sneaky favorite pick was Sterling Hofrichter in the 7th. I’m a huge Syracuse fan so I watched him all the time and the kid has a BOOT, probably the best punter in the country.
BC: All of these are facts. Atlanta saw holes and actually used the draft to try and fix it. So we'll keep our eyes open to see what happens next.
Thoughts on Falcons roster wise?
KL: I think we’re ready to contend right now. We all know that our offense is elite with Ryan, Julio, Ridley and Gurley, but if our defense stays healthy we’re a scary team. The last time we had a healthy defense we were on a Super Bowl run. Our defense is definitely our weaknesses, but we have so much young talent on that side of the ball that if they’re all healthy they can hang with anyone.
BC: That seems to be a common thing. If teams can keep people healthy, they would be doping major damage. Well here's to hoping that can happen.
Thoughts on future?
KL: Our future is a weird thing for us. Our defense is real young, so on that side I’d say we can only go up, but the offense is definitely in win now mode. Matt Ryan is 34, Julio is a 31 year old receiver, Gurley isn’t your typical 25 year old, and our best o-lineman (Alex Mack) is 33 so the window for us is definitely smaller than some of the other contenders. I really think our future all depends on who the next QB is. We have Ridley to replace Julio as a true number 1, we just drafted a center to take over for Mack, and running backs are replaceable in my opinion so if Gurley isn’t here for the long haul then I think we can figure that out. I just have no clue who we’ll have at the QB position and you can’t win without a solid QB, so until I have a better idea on who that is then I don’t have a true answer on the future.
BC: That's a respectable answer. You recognize that the players won't be there forever so you already know the team has made arrangements to make the transition a little easier once that time does come.
We would like to thank Kenny for his time and make sue you guys go check out his socials, and more importantly Inspired by True Events!!!!!!! We wish him the best of luck and hope all his projects are successful.
