Welcome to Baller Central!!!! Basketball and Football articles created by Phil and Akeem
Who are you?
HL: My name is Hannah Lavin and I am 24 years old. You can follow me on Twitter @Hannahlavin17.
BC: Thank you Hannah for being a part of this. Let's get started with the interview!!!
How did you become a Patriots fan?
HL: I became a Patriots fan at a very young age, before the Brady era. I remember being introduced to the team when Bledsoe was the QB. Most of my family is from Massachusetts, so it was always prominent during family events. Whether it was on the tv, clothing, or topic of conversation, I never didn’t hear about them. My dad is a big fan of all Boston teams and I look up to my dad so much, so watching the Pats together was a huge bonding moment. Over the years, I began to grow my own love and support for the team to now where my dad says I enjoy watching the Pats more than him!
BC: Talk about passing it down the line. Thank you for that in depth answer.
Favorite player growing up?
HL: This is a super hard question for me because I’ve been through so many eras of the Patriots. Of course, Brady was a constant and is the GOAT. But I did have different phases when growing up of being obsessed with Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Darrelle Revis, Rob Ninkovich, Danny Amendola, etc. So I know this answer sounds cliché, but looking back on my childhood I think I was the most excited to see how Brady would clutch the game.
BC: Interesting choices. There are multiple people that have had a big impact on the franchise. So we would completely agree with the people you've listed.
Favorite game or moment?
HL: Super LI - Patriots VS. Falcons
BC: That's expected. That game was one of the best comebacks in history.
Thoughts on Super Bowls with Giants?
HL: Giants got lucky. That’s all I have to say on that. LUCK
BC: Well I can see you don't have much to say. So let's move on. Shall we?
Thoughts on rivalry with Giants?
HL: I think it’s an appropriate rivalry between the two because when they play together, it is always very close. What one team lacks, another has. It also doesn’t help that we play them the most, so they become familiar with our plays. I don't hate anyone who is a Giants fan, but most of the time their reasoning for being a fan is not my favorite.
BC: I'm sure they can say the same with you being a Patriots fan. But I'm also sure they appreciate the rivalry. A little witty banter is always nice.
Thoughts on Bill Belichick?
HL: With 6 Super Bowl rings, it’s kind of hard to say anything about the man. I think he’s great at what he does and obviously knows the sport. He reminds me of all of the coaches I had as a kid where only a certain type of breed can handle what he puts out. You gain a ton of respect for them and really get to see their knowledge of the game as time goes on. Belichick really doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. Not to mention, his press conferences crack me up. This guy literally deals with no shit.
BC: Well that was very much to the point. No doubt that the man knows what he's doing. He definitely has built a name for himself.
Thoughts on Tom Brady?
HL: If we are talking about Tom Brady as a quarterback for the Patriots, he can either be really good or really bad. There is no in between. However, if we are talking about Tom Brady in comparison to all other NFL quarterbacks, even on his worst days, statistics show he still performs at a higher level than other quarterbacks on a good day. I think as a person and a father, he seems like a great guy. Even though I may not agree with his political stance, I do believe his priorities are straight when it comes to family and teamwork.
BC: Couldn't have said it any better myself.
Who mattered more to the Patriots? Bill or Tom?
HL: In my opinion, I believe Tom Brady was more impactful for the Patriots than Bill Belichick is. Belichick is a great coach, but in order for him to have an impact he would need a team that is receptive to his coaching. Tom Brady’s move to the Buccaneers, has really shown audiences that he is a receptive player, that can adapt to any coaching style and bring a team to a higher competitive level.
BC: Giving credit where it's due is important. You clearly won't have a good squad if your QB is not playing well.
Thoughts on the future?
HL: The future of the Patriots seems like a bright one! I really respect and support their decision making Newton their new quarterback. I think if any one were to follow Brady, it should definitely be Newton. He has so much unlocked potential that I’m excited to see this season. I’m sure it will take some time for the team to get used to each other and gain that chemistry, but once they do they will be ROCKING. We just need to get out of this pandemic first!
BC: We couldn't agree more. Been a big fan of Cam and the things he can do. Just feel like he's gotten a bad rep from certain things that were out of his control. So the next era of New England should be an interesting one!
Shoutout to Hannah for representing the ladies and taking time out of her busy day to do this interview for us!!!!!! The Patriots offseason will be very interesting after an underwhelming season. There are a lot of questions to be answered and we will see if they do.
