NBA Western Conference Predictions 2021-2022

Welcome to Baller Central!!!! Basketball and Football articles created by Phil and Akeem

The Phoenix Suns represented the West last year but the question is how will the West play out this year? Here are our predictions on how the standings will look this year in the wild, wild, West.

8th Seed

Phil’s Pick

Minnesota Timberwolves

We saw some highlights from Anthony Edwards last season and I truly believe this is the year they make the playoffs. They have D LO, Towns, and Edwards this with a decent starting lineup and with defensive pest Patrick Beverly I believe they have enough to at least make it now

Akeem’s Pick

Minnesota Timberwolves

I've been a fan of the Timberwolves for some years now. When Zach Lavine and KAT were on the team, I thought for sure they would make some noise. But I'm really ready for the new additions to do something this year. Patrick Beverly is going to be a problem on defense as usual so add that with KAT's sheer athleticism, and they will be a problem.

7th Seed

Phil’s Pick

Dallas Mavericks

I love Luka Doncic but the Mavs went backwards in the offseason. They made no serious moves and Kristaps Porzingis is still on the team. The only move they made that i liked was trading for Moses Brown. Plus they no longer have Rick Carlisle as a coach. I just don't like the way the roster looks Luka can only take them so far.

Akeem’s Pick

Dallas Mavericks

I feel with Dallas the same way I feel with Utah. They have one massive star on the team and no supporting cast. The difference is at least Utah has Rudy Gobert. All Luka has is Porzingis. And that isn't saying much because he hasn't been the same since he left the Knicks. It hasn't really panned out for the Mavs as well as people thought it would. So if Luka is ready to put the team on his back again, they can make some noise this season. If they could show people that they have more weapons other than Luika, then maybe I'll take them a little more seriously.

6th Seed

Phil’s Pick

Los Angeles Clippers

Last season ended sour as they lost in the conference finals to the suns. They did not have Kawhi Leonard. They will be without Kawhi for some time as well because of load management and whatever current injury he has currently. Plus I don't know why they traded for Eric Bledsoe he hasn't done much recently. They will stay LA's second team as I do not have much expectations for him this season. Expect a first round exit or second round exit at best.

Akeem’s Pick

LA Clippers

Now I am a big PG-13 fan. Been a fan since he was on the Pacers. And will still be a fan of his. But I don't see this team making it far either. If Kawhi was playing then I would have them up higher. But without his defense and scoring ability, it's going to be difficult. Do I think it's impossible? No because George has shown us he is capable of still putting the team on his back when need be. But I don't think it's going to last all season. And especially not in the playoffs when you have teams that have completely revamped their roster.

5th Seed

nba-western-conference-predictions-2022

Phil’s Pick

Denver Nuggets

No Jamal Murray so I see them not being as good as before but they will be better near playoff time or post all star break whenever he comes back. I love the Jeff Green and Bones Hyland addition but we won't be seeing Denver at their full power until Murray comes back so their seeding will take a hit for now. They will be a dangerous team when the playoffs come along.

Akeem’s Pick

New Orleans Pelicans

This might be my dark horse of the season. Call me a little crazy, that's fine. But I feel like once Zion gets back (who knows when that will actually be) this team will be a problem. They've gotten rid of Lonzo, JJ, and Eric Bledsoe and replaced them with Jonas Valanciunas, who is an upgrade from Steven Adams, and Devonte' Graham who, let's face it, was a star last year in Charlotte. We shall see if they can hold down the fort until Zion is back up and running.

4th Seed

nba-western-conference-predictions-2022

Phil’s Pick

Golden State Warriors

THE WARRIORS WILL BE DANGEROUS THIS YEAR. They had a great draft with getting Kuminga and Moody, picking up good pieces like Avery Bradley, Otto Porter, and a returning vet and leader Andre Iguodala. Plus make sure you guys look out for Jordan Poole this season he will be fun to watch off the bench. If Klay can be healthy this year the Warriors will for sure be in the playoffs. When Klay plays everyone around him will be better.

Akeem’s Pick

Phoenix Suns

While I called them having to play the Bucks last year, I think they're going to have a little "playoff hangover". I fully see them having a great record this year. But I don't see them making it to the finals two years in a row. Chris Paul is another year older. And they have yet to pay DeAndre Ayton.

3rd Seed

nba-western-conference-predictions-2022

Phil’s Pick

Phoenix Suns

The Suns will continue to be a top team in the league this year as they suffered a tough defeat in the finals vs Milwaukee. They retained CP3 and hopefully Ayton. CP3 and Booker will continue to show out with Bridges, Ayton, and others following suit. Let's hope the Suns stay competitive and last season was an outlier. That's how some people feel and we here think the Suns will be competitive until CP3 moves on or retires.

Akeem’s Pick

Golden State Warriors

Steph is playing no games!!! And once Klay comes back in January/February, I fully expect them to pick up where they left off. I'm sure the team has missed his presence. There's no denying that the team hasn't been as good since he suffered his injury. But with added pieces, they may be able to hold out until the time comes and the team is back at full capacity.

2nd Seed

nba-western-conference-predictions-2022

Phil’s Pick

Utah Jazz

They had a good record and good team last year but hit the same road block. THE PLAYOFFS. The Jazz can be good all they want in the regular season but they never show up in the playoffs. Donovan Mitchell can only do so much. They as of late has only been a regular season team and reminds me of the Hawks back then. Good in the regular season but let's us down when it matters. Until they prove me wrong that is what i will think.

Akeem’s Pick

Utah Jazz

Phil hit the nail on the head. The playoffs seems to be this teams kryptonite... I want them to succeed!!!! I want them to make as much noise as people have for Donovan Mitchell. Because that man can't do it by himself. It's not fair to him. But they have to give that man some help!

1st Seed

nba-western-conference-predictions-2022

Phil’s Pick

Los Angeles Lakers

Here is my favorite for the one seed and the championship. Yes they are old, yes Lebron and Ad will most likely be on load management, but when the playoffs come they will be the best team. They did a complete overhaul and grabbed a lot of former Lakers. They also grabbed Russell Westbrook that could be a deciding factor if the Lakers win or not. Once they find out how Russell, Lebron, and AD can co-exist they will be a problem. So expect a slow start to the season but when playoffs come around teams should be worried.

Akeem’s Pick

LA Lakers

Let's be real here, with the team they have, it's going to be tough to beat them! LeBron, AD, Russ... Those 3 people alone are major problems for anyone who's responsible for guarding them... So I fully see them dominating all season even with LeBron being on a minutes restrictions. Because we know it's happening.
