NBA Eastern Conference Predictions

Welcome to Baller Central!!!! Basketball and Football articles created by Phil and Akeem

Our favorite time of year is here!!!! Basketball and football are running simultaneously! While that means we have to do double duty reporting both sports, its nothing that we can't handle. With that being said, let's dive right into our predictions of who will land what seed when its all said and done. This is our way too early segment!!!

8th Seed

nba-eastern-conference-predictions

Phil's Pick

New York Knicks

Knicks fans please hear me out....... you guys got better but so did a majority of the East. Knicks improved their guards by adding former Celtics players in Fournier and Kemba. I believe they overpaid for Fournier and Kemba walker has regressed ever since Charlotte. Plus Julius Randle is still their best player so I still don't see them having much playoff success. The Heat, Bulls, and other got better knocking NYK down the list.

Akeem's Pick

Philadelphia 76ers

While I like Phil's pick for the 8th seed. I'm actually going to give this one to the 76ers. While I know they still have great offensive threats such as Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris, I don't see them carrying them as far as most. Embiid will get injured sometime before the season is over. Not trying to jinx him, but history has a habit of repeating itself.

7th Seed

Phil’s Pick

Philadelphia 76ers

With all this Ben Simmons drama I see this effecting the 76ers HEAVILY. Unless they have a trade in mind I believe the 76ers will continue to be a mess. Ben Simmons lost faith in the coaching staff and the office and staff has lost faith in him. Also no one talks about Tobias Harris and his contract he has not played up to his contract but he gets overshadowed by Ben. Ben is reportedly coming back to the team but the damage is already done.

Akeem’s Pick

New York Knicks

Flipping the 2 teams, I think is the right idea. I'm all for the underdogs. Especially since I've been one multiple times. But I feel like the Knicks are going to sneak up on you guys this year and make it to the 7th seed. I know this may be a bit of a stretch, but I think it's possible. Adding Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier will definitely put some firepower. Not saying that either of them will play to the level of when they were in Orlando and Charlotte, but they are still good for double digit point averages.

6th Seed

nba-eastern-conference-predictions

Phil’s Pick

Atlanta Hawks

Trae Young and the Hawks made it all the way to the conference finals last year. Do I believe the Hawks can make it to the conference finals again? Nah. If everyone is healthy I expect the Hawks to still make the playoffs just not make the conference finals again. I do like Trae, John Collins, Clint Capela, and the others but the East has so much talent that it's hard to put some teams ahead of the Hawks.

Akeem’s Pick

Atlanta Hawks

I am a big fan of Atlanta. Trae Young is an absolute superstar! There's no denying that. And if anyone tries to do that, you send them to me. But even with as good as Trae plays, they are still going to fall short. While it is nice to have Nate McMillan as head coach at the beginning of the season, I sitll don't see them making it past Milwaukee. And that's if they make it to the finals.

5th Seed

nba-eastern-conference-predictions

Phil’s Pick

Miami Heat

The Heat added former Raptors PG Kyle Lowry and former dog for the Milwaukee Bucks PJ Tucker. They solve a problem they had at point guard for a while. Kyle Lowry has been the best point guard the Heat has had in a while. Plus he is a decent defender so that is a bonus. Butler, Bam, and Lowry is a decent trio and could definitely make the playoff. I need to see improvement from Bam Adebayo before the Heat can make the jump to the next step.

Akeem’s Pick

Miami Heat

It's been over a year since the Heat plowed through the entire eastern conference and faced the Lakers in the finals. It seems so long ago when you think about it. The fact that they got railroaded by the Bucks last season, doesn't help their case. They need for Jimmy Butler to play with that same assertiveness he had when they were on top. Tyler Herro needs to play like he has something to play for. With Bam on the rise, he'll definitely provide some help but he will need his teammates to show up. The addition of Kyle Lowry and PJ Tucker will help with the defense.

4th Seed

nba-eastern-conference-predictions

Phil’s Pick

Boston Celtics

Is this a bit biased? SURE. Do I care? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Celtics let go of Kemba and Fournier so that was good. They also added wing Josh Richardson to the team so the defense and bench get a boost. They also grabbed an old friend in center Al Horford to help the big man problem and be a leader in the locker room. To replace Kemba Walker they add Dennis Schroeder and will rely on Payton Pritchard a lot more after having a good summer league. I see this team being better than last year's and they will show it soon enough. They will be a top 5 east team this year!!!

Akeem’s Pick

Boston Celtics

This is funny to me because I don't feel like Boston deserves to be here. But not because I think they're bad. I actually like them (sometimes). And they have some talent on the team. I just don't see them making it to past round 1 of the playoffs. But I can't put them lower than 4th seed because they perform during the regular season. It's the post season where they seem to forget how to play basketball. With Tatum and Brown essentially leading the team at such a young age, they'll need some veterans to help guide them. But they'll definitely make some noise during the regular season.

3rd Seed

nba-eastern-conference-predictions

Phil’s Pick

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls had one of the best off-seasons this year. They added Lonzo, Caruso, and DeMar to play alongside Zach Lavine and Nikola Vucevic. Plus I expect second year player Patrick Williams to have a good year with Lauri Markannen not on the team anymore. Plus Nikola Vucevic will now have a full year with the team after being traded from Orlando last year. Expect this team to have a top 10 defense and a top 15 offense. I have their coach Billy Donovan to win player of the year.

Akeem’s Pick

Chicago Bulls

I'm going to have to go with the Bulls as well. I've always been a fan of Zach Lavine so I've wanted nothing but success to come his way. So I am ELATED for him to get some help and make a run for something big! Lonzo is going to do great things this year. And with Demar DeRozan being there, he still has plenty of gas left in the tank. So this should be a fun season for them.

2nd Seed

nba-eastern-conference-predictions

Phil’s Pick

Brooklyn Nets

I would have the Nets as the number one team but with Kyrie Irving not available I have them as second. They made a lot of moves as well in the offseason. Patty Mills, Paul Millsap, gaining LaMarcus Aldridge back, and having a good draft with Summer League MVP Cam Thomas. This team got deeper and it should be with Kyrie Irving not being available. All that matters is health. This team goes as far as KD and Harden take them.

Akeem’s Pick

Brooklyn Nets

I'd have to agree with Phil on this one. I think Brooklyn has the potential to go all the way. But with the current state of Kyrie Irving and not knowing whether or not he'll even play, it makes me question the team. Now granted, they still have massive players on their roster, but Kyrie is the leader. His presence alone shifts the energy on the court. They will still make a run, but without him playing, it's going to be a constant uphill battle.

1st Seed

nba-eastern-conference-predictions

Phil’s Pick

Milwaukee Bucks

I believe me and Akeem are going to agree on this one. Even though they lost one of their best defenders in PJ Tucker you can never count out the duo of Giannis and Khris Middleton. Add Jrue Holiday to that and you have a championship team like last year. Plus they get Donte DiVincenzo back from injury later on in the year. Giannis even could be MVP once again. Will they repeat? I don't believe so but I believe they will secure the number one seed.

Akeem’s Pick

Milwaukee Bucks

Well Phil was right about this one as well. We definitely both agree that Milwaukee will repeat as the #1 seed in the east. Giannis is still in his prime. And I don't see him or anyone else slowing down this season. I was also reminded that Donte DiVincenzo will be back later on this season. So that will add some depth coming off the bench.

Those are our Eastern Conference predictions for this year. We also have a Western Conference predictions article out as well. We can not wait for the season!!!!! Who do you guys have ranked in the East? Let us know!!!
