NBA 10 for 10 Round 2: Julius and the Nuggets

Welcome to Baller Central!!!! Basketball and Football articles created by Phil and Akeem

Who are you?

J: My name is Julius aka Ju Black. You can find me on Twitter, Snap, and IG @Julesbee3. I am a huge Nuggets fan. Always have and always will.

BC: To be honest we haven't ran into a Nuggets fan for a while so we are very appreciative for this opportunity and thank you for taking time out of your day to do this with us.

How'd you find out about the Nuggets?

J: The reason I became a nuggets fan is because of the Allen iverson trade. I went wherever he went. I have always been a huge Allen Iverson fan but him going to the Nuggets really help start me being a Nuggets fan. Him and Carmelo together was something special.

BC: Personally besides the 76ers we loved AI on the Nuggets. Playing with the Nuggets with AI and Melo on NBA Live and 2K would always be fun and deadly. Plus the throwback Nuggets uniform are always fire to us.

First reaction when you saw them play?

J: When I saw them play it was amazing. Fast pace offense. High flying. Lots of scoring. Just exciting team. Pairing Anke breaking Iverson who could stop and go on a dime with young Melo was an absolutely monster duo. Whoever would get double teamed the other would score or dish it off to another teammate because you can put one defender on Melo or AI. They are just those type of guys.

BC: We completely agree with that. That whole team was fun to watch and play. During his tenure with the Nuggets he AI had some pretty fun teammates. He played alongside Carmelo Anthony, "Birdman" Chris Andersen, Mr. Big Shot Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin,Marcus Camby, and the henna god himself JR Smith who is a fan favorite here at Baller Central. Allen Iverson has said that he believes the 2007-2008 Nuggets were the most talented team he has played with.

Favorite Nuggets game?

J: Favorite nuggets game I don't have a specific but I would say the whole western conference finals in 09 when melo and kobe went at it. So intense. Two amazing scorers. Melo and Kobe guarding each other. Unfortunately lakers came out on top but that was one of my favorite times watching them.

BC: That was an absolute classic of a series and don't blame you for picking it. Kobe and Melo had a hard fought battle against each other where ultimately Kobe and the Lakers came out on top. It was one of those series where the Lakers were the favorites to win but the Nuggets really gave LA everything they can handle and really made it a fun and competitive series.

During the 2009 Western Conference finals the Lakers and Nuggets had an absolute classic where the Lakers won the series but the Nuggets gave them everything they had.

Team's biggest regret?

J: Biggest team regret is the nuggets breaking down after that western conference finals. Coach karl got sick, Nuggets lost their edge. Then the team wasn't oriented the same. Melo asked for a trade and it was rebuild mode.

BC: Sometimes you know when a team is done and ran it's course. Sometimes you just see the signs. That western conference series against the Lakers were probably their best chance to get to the finals and after failing they decided mentally and team wise to pack things up and start fresh and see what they can get for Melo.

Biggest team acquisition?

J:Biggest team acquisition would be Carmelo, AI, and Nikola jokic. Jokic is the man currently. He isn't the MVP caliber as last season but he's the centerpiece right now. Carmelo brought the team to the playoffs each year he was on the nuggets. And Allen Iverson was a solid addition even tho their success wasn't great.

BC: Having Jokic come in to help jumpstart the rebuild post Carmelo was exactly what the Nuggets needed. They have premier big in the league that can almost do it all. We can score from almost anywhere on the court including threes and he is easily the best passing big men in the league with his amazing vision and endless flashy passing highlights. The future of the Nuggets are in good hands as long as Jokic is healthy and around.

Thoughts on Melo?

J:I wish Melo would've stayed. He's my favorite player behind allen iverson. Once he retired then it would be Paul George. But Melo is a Hall of Famer. People get on Melo for his lack of leadership or lack of defense. But he's a solid leader but his methods aren't the same as lebron or kobe or mj.

BC: Melo is a very underrated and misunderstood player in the NBA. He has so many accomplishments and accolades like his scoring and Olympic performances but everyone especially in today's age looks at rings. They always say Melo has no rings and just chucks. They fail to realize he is one of the best triple threats in the league. He can post up, drive, and shoot and it's always hard to defend him doing it. Especially that post and his quick jabs and pump fakes.

Thoughts on Jokic?

J: Nikola jokic is an amazing player. I wish he didn't wear 15 because melo deserves to get that number retired. Jokic is a rare big man that u can see pass and score. Hes not very athletic but he gets it done. Seeing him in person this season against the nets was cool. He almost had a triple double.

BC: Like we said earlier Nikola Jokic is a rare breed and highly deserves to be the Nuggets franchise player. Players tend to underestimate him due to him being big and not very athletic. Then he makes them pay with rebounds including offensive because he is known for having great hands. He can also shoot threes and score in the post. You decide to double team him he uses his amazing court vision to find the open man for the scores well as set up his teammates on drives and spot up threes.

Nikola Jokic is a unique seven footer who excels at passing and shooting but can also dominate on the boards.

Thoughts on the current roster?

J: The current roster is solid. We have the same one from last season so I like that we have chemistry from the start. The team this year has been on autopilot though. Have to turn it up a notch to compete with both LA teams and potentially the mavs too. Who would've thought the Mavs would be a top 5 team in the west.

BC: We here at Baller Central also love the Nuggets roster. They all compliment each other so well and are unselfish. Then you see rookies Michael Porter Jr, and Bol Bol who both have huge chips on their soldiers start to show their potential. This makes the Nuggets even more deep and dangerous. We will see how they perform in the bubble especially in the playoffs. Maybe we will see their all big lineup again which could cause teams a bunch of problems.

The Nuggets have tons of potential but will they show it in the bubble?

Predictions for the season?

J: I believe we can get to the west finals. I would say finals but i'm going to be realistic. Only way we can get to the finals is if jamal Murray and jokic both play allstar/superstar level. We can't have mediocre performances in the playoffs. West finals for me would be a success. 1st since 09 season.

BC: We completely agree with that statement. If they wanna reach the conference finals they will have to get through the Lakers or Clippers and for that you need all players to be playing their best and even more against the top two teams in the West. They have the tools to do so they just gotta perform.

The Nuggets have one of the deepest teams in the league but will it pay off in the playoffs?
