Who are you?
G: My name Is GaCoby Mccovery I am 25 years old and my Social GaCoby Mccovery on Facebook.
BC: Thanks for coming out and doing this interview with us about your Clippers. The Clippers have had a unique history the last couple of years. Going from not being contenders, to Lob City, to not being contender once again, and then becoming Lock City by becoming one of the best defensive teams in the league and then adding Paul George via trade and Kawhi Leonard via free agency.
How'd you find out about the Clippers?
G:I found out about the Clippers by watching a lot of NBA games. I started liking them once they traded for chris paul who is one of my favorite players.
BC: Like we mentioned earlier Lob City was a very interesting time for LA. Chris Paul after being denied a trade to the Lakers ended up going to the Clippers being paired with Dunk Machines Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan to become Lob City. They underperformed as the curse that still haunts them as people claim that they can't make it past the second round. That held up to be true with Lob City and we will see if it holds up with Lock City.
First reaction when you saw them play?
G:When I first saw them play I wasn't a fan but they always played tough. But when they started to pick up some good pieces I knew that they would be a problem.
BC: The Clippers always played tough because they usually had tough players on their team. They have a ton of tough players now like Pat Beverly one of the best defensive guards in the NBA, Kawhi Leonard one of the best two way players in the league as well as Paul George, Montreal Harrell who is one of the best sixth men in the league, and many more on the roster. They are called Lock City for a reason they play tenacious defense and isn't afraid to grit and grind.
Favorite Clippers game?
G:I have two favorite games played by the Clippers. The first is Game 2 in the 2019 playoffs when we came down 31 points to win Vs arguably the best this decade. The second is Game 1 in the 2012 Playoffs when we came back from a 27 point deficit to win the game.
BC: Those we game basically showed the toughness of the Clippers were they didn't give up when they were down by a lot. They put their head down and went to work and broke the lead down bit by bit. Then they shocked the world by not only coming back but winning the game. In the 2019 game they were playing against the number one seeded Warriors while they were the eighth seed. These were the dynasty Warriors at the time also. Led by Patrick Beverly and Montreal Harrell they pulled the impossible. They did end up losing the series but this game will definitely be remembered in Clippers history. As for 2012 Lob City was down 82-55 with 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Then the Clips went on a 44-16 run to complete one of the craziest comebacks in NBA history. This comeback was led by Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and Swaggy Nick Young.
Team's biggest regret?
G:Honestly I feel like we do pretty good with picking up players. Usually the players we draft or trade plays pretty good for us. But I wouldn't mind us getting another solid team player.
BC: With all the good draft and trade luck there is bad draft and trade luck. Just like other teams the Clippers have had a lot of swings and misses. For example there was Darius Miles who was drafted third overall in the 2000 draft by the Clippers who didn't play up to his hype. Also Lorenzen Wright is one of them. This man was picked ahead of KOBE, STEVE NASH, and PEJA in the draft but I bet you never heard of him. Also lastly there was Michael Olowokandi. He was selected first overall by the Clips in 1998. He had a very disappointing career as he played for several different teams. He was in the same draft class as Dirk, Paul Pierce, and the newly retired Vince Carter.
Biggest team addition?
G:The biggest addition is obviously kawhi. PG was also a big addition for our team. Terrence Mann was a good addition to the team also I feel he is gonna be really good in the future.
BC:The Clippers have had some good draft and trade luck. They have drafted players like Blake Griffin, Quentin Richardson, Eric Gordon, Lamar Odom, Chris Kaman, Danny Manning, DeAndre Jordan, and probably the best Clipper of all time Bob McAdoo. The move to get Paul George and Kawhi might be their greatest move yet because that one could lead them to a NBA championship.
Thoughts on Lob City?
G: The lob city era is when I became a fan of the Clippers. They where one of the most exciting teams in NBA history. I just wish our players didn't get injured a lot.
BC: Lob City was a very exciting team to watch with Chris Paul one of the best point guards in the league throwing lobs to Blake Griffin who could dunk anything at the time and DeAndre Jordan who could do the same. This team had so much potential but always happened to fall before or on the second round of the playoffs. They had the likes of Lou Williams, Paul Pierce, Josh Smith, Nick Young, Eric Bledsoe, Caron Butler, Glen Davis, Matt Barnes, Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford, and JJ Redick play during the Lob City era alongside of CP3, Blake and DJ.
Thoughts on Lock City?
G: We easily got one of the best defensive teams in the league. But I feel our defense can be better.
BC: That's how a lot of teams feel everyday. They can be the best teams in the league but they always feel they can do better. As for Lock City we would recommend a different starting center. Montrezl Harrell is a great big to come off the bench but Zubac isn't going to cut it. They need an improvement at center and maybe another decent bench player or two. They don't need much honestly but just a few tweaks and adjustments this team can become a dynasty.
Thoughts on the Battle for LA?
G:Man I love my Clippers but the Lakers is looking scary right now. It sucks because lebron is one of my favorite players all time. But I feel we have the edge as the best team in LA.
BC: This will be a hot debate for a while as you have two title contenders in the same city. They both have talented duos on each side. Lebron and AD for the Lakers and PG and Kawhi for the Clips. This will also be an intense rivalry where we will see them play a lot due to them being in the same division and most likely a lot of playoff matchup also. We will most likely see them in the Western Conference final this year but we will see.
Predictions for this season?
G: We have so much potential to be great, but I feel like we are missing something. Still believe we can finish as a top 3 seed. As far as playoffs, I see us winning it all.
BC: This team does have championship aspirations as they are thinking title or bust. They have the roster to contend against the Lakers and Bucks so it's basically up to them to execute. When the playoffs come around their biggest obstacle is going to be their LA counterpart in the Lakers. Will the Clippers win the Battle of LA this year? Watch the playoffs to find out.
We would like to thank GaCoby for taking time out of his day to do this interview with us. We wish his Clippers the best of luck in not only the Battle for LA but in the playoffs and hope they have a deep playoff run. They will be a fun team to watch for a while especially in the playoffs. Will Kawhi Leonard get a third championship and third finals MVP with three different teams? Find out by watching!!!
