Welcome to Baller Central!!!! Basketball and Football articles created by Phil and Akeem

Who are you?

CS: My name is Chris Simmons I am 25 years old and you can follow me on Instagram at @Superman_Simmons and on Snapchat at @Superman_Simmons.

BC: Thanks for joining us today Chris to talk about your beloved Detroits Pistons. We also wanted to shout out his team that he coaches. Proctor Graduate Chris Simmons coaches varsity girls at Corning Christian Academy about a hour from Syracuse, with 4 7th Graders, 3 8th Graders, 1 Freshman, 1 Sophomore and 1 senior they were a 4 seed and beat #2 Seeded Tyburn located out of Syracuse to advance to the ESCAL Championship for the first time in 7 years where they fell short this team pushed through every sprint, every mop up and every push-up and took their respect from every team. When they played most parents would walk up to coach Simmons and say “your girls are too aggressive” his response “ this isn’t a beauty pageant, it’s basketball” Look out for these ladies!! You can see Chris with his team in a photo below.

How'd you find out about the Pistons?

CS: When I was 10 I did a research project on a basketball team I knew a lot about Jordan but I wanted to know what teams made it hard for him I care across the bad boy Pistons who just beat him down I fell in love with the team and until this day I think Isiah Thomas is the best point guard of all time.

BC: We all been there in school where we had to do a research project on someone we choose. For the sports people their go to was always their favorite players or teams. Those projects helps us know even more about our favorite teams and make us love them even more.

The Pistons have been stuck between rebuilding and being one of the lower playoff teams ever since their last championship in the Billups and Wallace era.

First reaction when you saw them play?

CS: When I first saw them play I was at awe mainly because none of the people were well known players like Ben and Rasheed Wallace, prince, Joe Smith, Jerry Stackhouse etc I called them under appreciated players.

BC: The last group of players that won the Pistons the championship was truly under appreciated and overlooked. They didn't have a true star on that team just some all stars and a good amount of role players who are good at what they do.

No superstars? No problem. One of the most underrated championship teams of all time.

Favorite Pistons game?

CS: My favorite game had to be game 6 of the 1988 finals when Thomas played on a sprained ankle and just killed the lakers they lost but the grit and determination to play through adversity. WOW!!

BC: Isiah Thomas will always go down as one of the greats among point guards. In our opinion he is on the Mount Rushmore of PGs. Plus the Bad Boy Pistons will always be such a memorable era for Detroit. Isiah, Lambeer, Rodman, Dumars, and many more with their tenacious defense gave any team fits and troubles.

An injured Isiah Thomas helped lead the Pistons to an amazing game 6 victory over the LA Lakers.

Team's biggest regret?

CS: Clearly not drafting Melo, wade or bosh, darko was a good pick but going back in time I guarantee Pistons don’t even look his direction. They clearly wanted a young big at the time but I think they would go with talent.

BC: We completely agree with you Chris. The Pistons drafted for needs at the time when they should've just drafted talent. They could have made Melo, Wade, and Bosh fit in their system. The Pistons probably would win another title or two with a superstar to run their offense through.

The Detroit Pistons drafted center Darko Milcic second overall in 2003. He was drafted ahead of future hall of famers Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade. He would end up being one of the most infamous bust in NBA draft history.

Team's biggest addition?

CS: Honestly Dwane Casey is the big addition because he bring playoff experience he knows how to coach a team with one star, and we haven’t had a good coach since Larry brown.

BC: Dwane Casey is a good coach in our eyes and the Toronto Raptors should have never fired him. He would have won the championship with Kawhi if the Raptors gave him the opportunity. He is the person to help the Pistons get back on track. They look to be in rebuild mode with trading Drummond so they will have to be patient with Casey.

Former Raptors coach Dwane Casey will be in charge of getting the Pistons through their rebuild and back into being competitive.

Thoughts on the Bad Boys era?

CS: I love the bad boys that’s why I love this team I modeled my game after those players high motor like Rodman, scoring mentality like dumars, tough like lambeer, leader like Thomas, they all helped me be the player I am now.

BC: Again the Bad Boys Pistons were such an iconic team in NBA history. A lot of teams wish they had the defensive players and defensive intensity that the Pistons had. They are arguably one of the best defensive teams of all time. It even took the great Michael Jordan time to adjust to the Pistons defense.

Rick Mahorn, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Isiah Thomas, and Bill Laimbeer made the Bad Boys who they were.

Thoughts on the 2004 Pistons?

CS: That championship core they had In 2003-2004 man a team full of ballers! I mean players playing for each other just sacrificing their bodies for each other that chase down block prince had on Miller first thing that comes to mind, never giving up on a play, and that’s why I feel they were the most underrated championship team most would say the mavs but they had star in dirk that pistons team had no key “Superstar”.

BC: These guys won a championship without a true superstar. Just some all stars and some great role players. They had the defense to stifle the Lakers which not a lot of teams were able to do back then. That alone was impressive. They were complete underdogs and ended up beating the Lakers. This feat was more impressive than the Mavericks beating the Lebron led Heat due to the Mavs having Dirk. For sure one of the hard fought championships of all time.

The underdog Pistons defeated the Lakers during the 2004 NBA Finals led by Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Ben and Rasheed Walace.

Thoughts on Blake and Drummond?

CS: Moved I think need to happen piston trade their number 7 pick for a star like Embiid or try to trade up to get a better pick, maybe pair Derozan and Casey back together we are a star away from being contenders in my opinion especially with rose playing the way he is and if Blake can stay healthy.

BC: Drummond did get moved by the time this article comes out. Having Embiid, Derozan, and Blake would be a decent trio but we don't see it happening. It might be time to trade Blake as well and just start the official rebuild and load up on picks and watch free agency. Blake is getting older and more injury prone so we think it's time to move on from him.

With Andre Drummond shipped to Cleveland it should be time for Blake Griffin to depart the Motor City as well.

Predictions for this season?

CS: I see us making the playoffs as long as Blake is healthy, and depends on our draft pick, been awhile since we drafted a team changing player I think a round 1 exit in the playoffs but we going 6 games!!

BC: This season Blake got hurt and the Pistons missed the playoffs. It was a tough season for Dwane Casey and company but they do hold the number 7 pick in the draft to either trade or draft a player to help the rebuild process go smoother. They are projected to grab USC's Onyeka Okongwu.

USC Onyeka Okongwu is projected to be a top 10 talent in the draft and has a chance to be drafted by Detriot. Okongwu would had a lot of defensive versatility to the team.

We would like to thank Chris Simmons for his time during this interview. Once again make sure to check out his team Detriot next season and the team he is coaching in the Corning Christian Academy Varsity Girls team. We are wishing both of Chris' teams the best of luck next season.
