The most popular game in India: cricket. You can watch this great game day and night!
There are two kinds of batsmen in the world. One, Sachin Tendulkar. Two, all the others.
— Andy Flower
Statistically, Sachin Tendulkar has the most number of records any sportsperson can have in a team sport.
Any record book on cricket will start with the name of Sachin and end with him. If you ever happen to take part in a quiz on cricket, and if a question comes on records, you can safely say Sachin Tendulkar, there would be high chances that your answer is right.
He is the player who holds the record for most number of years in international cricket. But there are other records that he holds. Oh, you know that, how naïve am I sounding? Sachin himself believes that records are meant to be broken. But that's so modest of him. Some records are not meant to be broken or can't be broken. Just as Sir Don Bradman's 99.94 test batting average, and Jack Hobbs 199 centuries in first-class cricket, and now Sachin's 100 centuries won't be broken.
So here is my list of Sachin Tendulkar's most unbreakable records.
Highest Run Scorer (ODI and Test)
18426 and 15921 = 34347
Most Number of Centuries
100 (51 Test and 49 ODI Centuries)
Most Number of Matches Played (Test and ODI)
198 and 463 = 661
Highest ODI Partnership Update: Recently broken by Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels
331 with Rahul Dravid
Most Number of Man of the Series and Man of the Match in ODI :
16 and 62
Most Number of Fours
4013 and Counting
Highest Run Scorer in World Cup
Most Number of Years in an International Sport
Most Number of Stadium Appearances
Most Number of Half-Centuries (ODI and Test)
96 + 67 = 198
1) Highest Run Scorer (ODI and Test) : 18426 and 15921 = 34347
Sachin holds the record of most number of runs scored ever by a cricketer. For ODI's at a certain point the media was going gaga over Ricky Ponting that he can break this record. Now everybody knows what happened to him.
In test cricket, Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis chased him but couldn't get past him.
2) Most Number of Centuries : 100 (51 Test and 49 ODI centuries)
Now, this is obvious. Nobody ever thought it that even Sachin will be able to do it (read 2006-2007). And every cricketer can only dream to achieve it.
I bet you this record is untouchable. Mission Impossible infinity.
And the above figure is only of international cricket. But there is the domestic circuit as well which he played away from the limelight. He has scored 80 centuries in first-class cricket and another 60 centuries in list A games.
3) Most Number of Matches Played (Test and ODI) : 198 and 463 = 661
For a player who has played more than 23 years of cricket in the international arena. This might be possible. But that's another thing that any other player who wants to do it would have to take a re-birth.
Even with cricket evolving with pro-batsman rule this is highly impossible. Such a long career and he has never been dropped, and that itself is a record. And for first-class games, he has played a whopping 302 matches and for list A 551 matches.
Now an exercise for you. Take out the calculator and count number of days he has played international cricket. Count and be amazed. If you don't want to then here is the number of days he has played. Be ready to get dazzled. 2910 days of cricket. It comes around 8 years and I have not even added Twenty20 cricket (IPL).
4) Highest ODI Partnership : 331 with Rahul Dravid
This is debatable. Stop laughing, but not laughable.
This record was made in 1999 against New Zealand. Keep in mind then there were no powerplays. Since then more than 12 years have passed and the only one which came close to it in recent times is 286 of Upul Tharanga and Dilshan vs Zimbabwe (consider that powerplay is introduced).
Update: This record has been broken by Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels when they scored 372 against Zimbabwe in 2015 world cup. In the process, Chris Gayle also scored a double century.
5) Most Number of Man of the Series and Man of the Match in ODI : 16 and 62
Even the commentators would have been bored of calling Sachin's name again and again. Considerable is the average, to make more sense, he is awarded a Man of the Match award in every seven matches that he plays.
Sachin has the most number of Man of the Matches and Man of the series award. And most by any sportsperson in any team sport.
6) Most Number of Fours (Test, ODI and T20) : 4013+
Sachin is way ahead of every of everyone in hitting boundaries. It is a massive 4013+.
With 2016 in just ODI matches and rest in test and 2 in the single T20 international that he played.
7) Highest Run Scorer in World Cup : 2278
This record is almost unbreakable.
Yes, I said almost. But doable. Sachin did it in 6 world cups. Any aspiring cricketer who can play for more than 3-4 world cups can do it. But getting selected in consecutive world cups and performing out there is another matter.
8) Most Number of Years in an International Sport - 24
Now this one is a given. More than 24 years in cricket.
He has the rare distinction of being coached by players with whom he has played against. He played against John Wright, Gary Kirsten who became coach of the Indian team.
9) Most Number of Stadium Appearances : 90+
In his long years of cricketing career, he has played in more number of stadiums than any other player.
According to statisticians, he has played in more than 100 stadiums in all over the world.
10) Most Number of Half-Centuries (ODI and Test) = 96 + 67 = 198
Apart from centuries, Sachin also holds the record of the most number of half-centuries. He has the highest number of 50's in ODIs as well as in test cricket.
The only player who can beat that may be Virat Kohli with 14 in test and 44 in one-day internationals.
Do you agree or disagree? Shout it out in the comments section.
Keep all that records aside, but no one can achieve a status like him. Being the God of Cricket (that's true howsoever that may sound a cliché to you), the most idolized most worshiped sportsperson of all time. No sportsperson in the world can ever dream of such luxury.

@SACHIN PANCHAL Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Rightly so more than 68 % of records in cricket. That's a record in itself.
SACHIN PANCHAL on September 30, 2016:
I am a big big fan of Sachin (refer my name, it's not only reason)
Yes, some records may broken by some cricketers, but not all of them can be broken by any single cricketer.
And as per my knowledge Sachin holds more than 68% records by any cricketer in cricket history.
Isn't another record..!!!
RAVVICHANDRAN on April 13, 2016:
Hai nowadays the players are not playing test matches as much , they all giving importance to t20 and one days intl. so as per my personal view test match records are impossible to break .
SAQIB from HYDERABAD PAKISTAN on September 29, 2014:
Record No 4 & 7 can be broken, Rest all are a steep cliff mountain to climb. Go on boys. Records are meant to be broken

himanshu on January 04, 2014:
It is not that no one could break his record. If sachin could make it someone could break it. But he need to do lot of hard work. Nothing is impossible.
naveen on November 03, 2013:
somebody saying kohli or cook can be broken sachin's record but they are in form but when they will got out of form or some injury many time they struggle for run or sayed team me jgeh bnani bhi muskil ho jye.

Nowhere but in India that a player or an artist is underrated in the country but praised abroad. Many were crying for his blood asking him to quit.Even Kapil dev , who brought the world cup
to India for the first time too rested his boots in pain, because of some piranhas who yelled for his blood. We are not bothered of who breaks the record or not, but we are proud to have born in the country he was born and lived in a period he was active.
atein on December 07, 2012:
Nice hub . Barring 20+ years of international cricket almost all records are breakable . Right now he needs to find some serious form to breakaway from Kallis who already has 44 centuries .
He is amazing though . The sheer volume of runs scored , the numbers about his career .... just mind boggling .
stev on November 25, 2012:
Too bad those arent match winning records
wyx on October 14, 2012:
but he is the first to do that

An outstanding personality Sachin Tendulkar ...
Real hero of the Cricket Internationals....
No one equal to him....
Aarav (author) from Mumbai on April 17, 2012:
@Shreyas That's the beauty of Sachin's career. Even after such a long career he has consistently shown better cricket.
But I squarely disagree with your prediction that Virat or Cook have the potential to beat Sachin's record. You never know when Virat tapers off.
Shreyas on April 16, 2012:
Well the one thing I like of Tendulkar is that he also has one of the highest averages in the history of the game.. Somewhere near 15th place or something. Even after such a long career.. People might wonder why I am saying this.. It is because if u have to beat Sachin u need to play as well as him for such a long time and such a good average.. Otherwise it is impossible for anyone to beat his record. His runs made are totally unbeatable but IFFFF there are some people who can break his record my favorites are -
1. Virat Kohli
2. Alastair Cook
If those 2 miss it which is highly likely then for 40-45 years his record will be untouched
Anoop Aravind A from Nilambur, Kerala, India on April 13, 2012:
Hai kannan,I am a great fan of Sachin Tendulkar, thaks for this hub.
Aarav (author) from Mumbai on April 06, 2012:
@ronakbhatia Totally agreed.
ronakbhatia from Mumbai, India on April 06, 2012:
I don't see anyone breaking any of these records. You need to have a lot of talent and put in loads of hard work to play a game for 23 years under such tremendous pressure.
Aarav (author) from Mumbai on March 22, 2012:
@Ramkeyviswa Thanks for stopping by and expressing your views.
Ramkeyviswa from Chennai, India on March 22, 2012:
Dear kannanwrites. If you ask me what more records are unbreakable, i will tell everything. I have never seen a player breaking Sachin's record and that happened on Dec 8 2011 by the thunderous Viru. Like that anything can happen. Its cricket. So nothing is predictable. But i am really surprised by your presentation of your hub. Keep writing!!
