More Japanese Female Wrestling on YouTube
Here is my third article about Japanese female wrestling, this time with female wrestling video!
I can talk about joshi puroresu (Japanese women wrestling) all I want, but until you actually see what I mean, you won't understand.
These women put on performances that would make Triple H or John Cena proud.
If all you have seen of female wrestling are the WWE Divas or the TNA Knockouts, get ready for a shock.
These wrestlers can go to the floor like MMA fighters or Greco-Roman wrestlers, then turn around and hit high flying moves that would make Rey Mysterio gasp.
So here are some of the best Japanese female wrestling videos I have found on YouTube.
Well it looks like YouTube has gone psycho and deleted every single video that was on this Hub.
At least you have some idea about what used to be on YouTube before their big purge.
Sorry about that.
I will be adding new videos at the bottom, at least until YouTube deletes them as well.
Ray versus Fuka at Passion Red
First up is a match between Ray and Fuka at the first Passion Red wrestling promotion show.
This match starts off almost like a Muay Thai fight, then goes to MMA style ground work.
You don't see a lot of high flying here.
If it wasn't for a huracanrana and a 619 during the match, I would say it was a "shoot".
This video is in two parts (because they have looong intros in Joshi and because Japanese female wrestling matches go longer than WWE Diva and most TNA Knockout bouts).
It was uploaded by NoisyWolfXII on YouTube, so be sure to check out part two (which has sound) and if you like the video, subscribe to their channel.
UPDATE: Alas, it seems this video and NoisyWolfXII are both gone. But such is life on YouTube since the Google takeover.
Rei versus Cherry
Next up is Ray again (this time spelled Rei) against another very popular Joshi wrestler, Cherry.
Cherry is very cute and would probably make a really good WWE Diva (except once she got here the WWE would waste her talent).
This match is more like the traditional Joshi, with lots of cartwheels, moonsaults and dropkicks.
Watch for Rei's cartwheel off the top turnbuckle while holding onto the ropes.
I think this match shows what a good worker Rei is, because not only can she do the ground work like in the first match, but she can hit all the high-spots in this match.
This video was posted on YouTube by lablue6uy, and it you want to see more, check out his channel.
Nanae Takahashi and Kana versus AKINO and Chihiro Oikawa
Now we have a tag-team battle with Nanae Takahashi and Kana taking on AKINO and Chihiro Oikawa.
Where the first match started out MMA, this one starts out looking like a Greco-Roman and freestyle match.
Again, testimony that these ladies can not only suicide dive off the top turnbuckle and land in the crowd, but also get on the mat and trade real wrestling moves.
This video was posted by the legendary DoubleMiz on YouTube (again, check out the channel for more videos like this).
Manami Toyota versus Akira Hokuto
Here is a battle posted by TheGreatLyger of the very first meeting of two women that would go on to become Joshi legends, Manami Toyota and Akira Hokuto.
This is classic Joshi, no black leather metal studded outfits, no make up, just two young women going full out showing what they know.
The action is so fast paced at the beginning of the match, I thought that it was on fast forward.
I really think this match should be shown to all the WWE Divas as "Wrestling 101: How to NOT Make Pro Wrestling Look Fake".
Takako Inoue versus Mima Shimoda
And here is a video posted by nagashimark of two of my Joshi favorites, Takako Inoue and Mima Shimoda.
You know the match is gonna be rough when Mima comes to the wrestling ring already holding a folding chair!
Mima was always one of my favorite heels, eye gouging, hair pulling, slapping, foreign object using, taunting and then smiling about it!
Of course Takako is no slouch, unleashing vicious roundhouse kicks and spinning backfists in the blink of an eye.
The match spills out of the ring, into the audience and mayhem ensures.
Mimi Hagiwara versus Tarantula
One more video posted by nagashimark, this one is Mimi Hagiwara taking on Tarantula (Wild Kazuki) in the AJW wrestling promotion.
Mimi was one of the most beautiful women to ever grace a Joshi ring (or any ring for that matter).
She may have looked like a living doll, but this petite young lady could dish it out, and she had her own mean streak.
But she also knew her stuff as you will see her not only use wrestling moves, but go into a little boxing and throw some judo throws in there for good measure.
She even takes her opponent out of the ring and introduces her to the fans.
Or at least the fan's chairs.
Cheerleader Melissa vs Makoto
Here is a match that is a little different with the incredibly talented Cheerleader Melissa (Alissa Flash) going up against Makoto.
This match pretty much boils down to power and skill vs speed and skill.
The video was posted by KingsRoadJapan and you can check out his channel at the link below.
Jumping Bomb Angels vs. Judy Martin and Velvet McIntyre
Following in the footsteps of the last video, here is another "East vs West" wrestling match with American heels Velvet McIntyre and Judy Martin taking on Japanese faces the Jumping Bomb Angels.
Later on Noriyo Tateno and Itsuki Yamazaki would come to America and in 1988, defeat The Glamour Girls (Leilani Kai and Judy Martin) in a match to become the WWF Women's Tag Team Champions.
They would hold the belts for 136 days before losing them back to The Glamour Girls.
This video was uploaded by dazzlewrestle.
Kyoko Kimura vs Kana
I have a saying on my Japanese wrestling blog that whenever you are in doubt, post Kana.
Kana seems to be very popular not only in Japan but in the US as well, and here she is taking on another pretty popular Japanese womens wrestler, Kyoko Kimura.
As DoubleMiz says in the description of this match, it is "Short, sweet, stiff and submission packed".
On a side note here, Kyoko Kimura is not only a female wrestler, but a female MMA fighter as well with a 2-1-1 record.
Her last fight was a loss to a lady you may have heard of, Rin Nakai.
Takako Inoue vs Cuty Suzuki
Two more Japanese wrestling greats, Takako Inoue and Cuty Suzuki going at it in a match from way back in 1993.
This is the second time Takako has appeared on this list, but the first time Cuty has shown up.
This is another DoubleMiz video and the quality is amazing for a video of a match that's 20 years old!
So sit back and watch two of the most talented (and beautiful) Japanese women wrestlers go at it!
Shirai vs. Sendai Sachiko
Next up we have a Sendai Girls promotion match with Mio Shirai taking on Sendai Sachiko.
Mio has tag-teamed with her sister to form the "Sexy Purple Thunder Sisters" and they both teamed up with Kana to form "Triple Tails".
Sendai Sachiko is the younger sister of Dash Chisako and she was trained by Meiko Satomura.
If you notice in this match, you have what's become standard in some joshi now, the mix of classic pro wrestling moves and mma techniques.
And again, this is a ten minute full on match, not the 2 to 3 minutes you usually get with WWE Divas.
Takako and Kyoko Inoue vs Manami Toyota and Mima Shimoda
Here is a match posted on YouTube by DoubleMiz of some Joshi legends.
We have Takako and Kyoko Inoue (Double Inoue) taking on Manami Toyota and Mima Shimoda.
These are some of the best female wrestlers (and maybe wrestlers period) to ever grace the ring.

What do Joshi events draw now days? It appears to be a far cry from the 80's heyday. Is it the current talent or has the mainstream appeal of Joshi come and gone?
