If you have a private club or attend a public swimming pool, if management is not enforcing the shower before entering the swimming pool rule, do very kindly remind them of this important health item. Signs should be posted not just by the swimming pool but right in the locker room with the showers. Walking all the way into the swimming pool dry and having to be reminded on deck to take a shower is cumbersome. Two signs are needed for a timely reminder. Enforcement of this rule is every one's responsibility - the end users, the management and the instructors.

Target toning the legs is critical for fitness. The legs not only provide mobility, but they also provide the key to our metabolism. Scientific research has proven that IF we can build more muscle, we burn more calories. This is important for weight loss but more importantly, often we improve our overall health. We lower our chances of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure and other ailments that affect the quality of our life.
Similar to full immersion swimming, kick boards work both the upper and lower body. The goal with these great fitness tools is to traverse across the swimming pool, use the resistance of the swimming pool to completely exhaust your leg muscle. Swimming laps with the EZ Swimmer Cuddle Core is no different than other target toning, the goal is full exhaustion of the muscles. While the Cuddle Core movement does not include the back muscles, it does serve to engage the long levers of the legs. The body position of a kick board demands that you push the kick board down into the water with the express goal of a horizontal position that directly mimics the full immersion swimmer.

Yes, you can swim supine, yes, many can swim laps with the board simply under their body but the most comfortable and most effective position of the EZ Swimmer is to swim diagonally in the water, engaging only the core, hip flexors and the legs. Other movements for the upper body can be covered in many different ways.
Water - 360 Degrees of Resistance
What makes the water magic for fitness is the 360 degrees of resistance. On the treadmill, we often need to include the incline to increase the heart rate and/or to engage the hamstrings and the buttock muscles. Only swim fitness offer 360 degrees of resistance. Every swim kick, whether swimming laps with a board or kick boxing in the water, offers resistance in both directions of the movements.
The other piece of magic for swim fitness is the heart muscle works less. Our resting heart rate literally drops the moment we immerse our body in the water. Scientific research has shown the resting heart rate drops 15-18 beats per minute. Yes, the water is cooler, yes, the water is low impact, yes, the water offers 360 degrees of resistance but try checking out your heart rate in the water. Wear a heart rate monitor and see your resting heart rate before you enter the water and after. No exercise needed for this change, your body adjusts automatically.
How do I know off this? I am the inventor of the EZ Swimmer and have been a heart patient since the age of 14 when I had open heart surgery at Mayo Clinic.
The water is a great option - only one caution, always swim with a friend and be sure to set clear goals. All too often people just enjoy the pool for the relaxation, and yet the swimming pool is the best place in the world for exercise. Like all exercise programs, do first consult your physician. Also, like all exercise programs, set clear goals and objects. Swimming laps and counting the laps is one method of goal setting. Swimming laps and timing yourself is another method. Swimming with a buddy is not just safer but also more motivational. Make exercise fun, look forward to the exercise and both your mind and your body will reward you for better health.
Swim shoes are different in construction and use and function from water shoes designed and made specifically for water aerobics. Swim shoes are typically made of a type of neoprene. Some swim shoes use thin neoprene, some swim shoes have softer more comfortable and cushy neoprene. Both versions stand up well to the water.
Rubberized Soles - Sign of Quality for the Soles of the Water Shoes
Look for rubberized soles not silicon soles - this is the mark of quality and it will offer added safety for those times when the swim shoes hit fiberglass either with a shower floor or a hot tub. If the purpose is swimming pool only, the roughness of the cement is sufficient with the silicon. If there is any chance of walking on fiberglass (typically hot tubs and some shower stalls), be aware that the silicon is not perfectly safe on those surfaces.
How to Tell Silicon from Rubberized Soles for Swim Shoes
Silicon typically has a softer feel than the hard rubber sole. Most distinctively, silicon has a transparency whereas the rubber is always opaque. Colors for the rubber are almost always opaque white or opaque black.
Infant - Toddler Swim Shoes
Infant shoes often have silicon soles which often are perfectly safe as the baby is toddling not walking. Be aware, however, any silicon sole reacts completely differently with fiberglass. Rubber soles are more expensive, more durable and do offer the convenience of safety for all wet surfaces.

A very tiny and simple thing but will conveniently store and dry both shoes and suits. I have had hooks that work great and then the cheaper hooks - beware, you might be throwing your money away, do look for quality.
