A blockbuster trade between the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves shocked NBA fans on July 1st, 2022. The Utah Jazz will receive Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler along with four first round draft picks for the three-time defensive player of the year Rudy Gobert.

Following a first round exit to the Memphis Grizzlies, there were many issues that you could take away as a viewer watching the Minnesota Timberwolves in that series. Their biggest one which is there defense. This past season the Timberwolves finished with a 46–36 record ending with the seventh seed in the western conference.

The Timberwolves ranked eighteenth in the league in rebounding during the regular season and ninth in defensive rating with 111.7.

Now many people must be asking , “ What does this all mean and how does Rudy Gobert solve the Timberwolves problems? “ and “ How is Rudy Gobert and Karl Anthony Towns going to work out? “.

Rudy Gobert is a three-time defensive player of the year and gave teams a nightmare on the defensive end for years now. Last season, the Utah Jazz were 11.9 points per 100 possessions better defensively when Gobert plays vs when he’s on the bench. Gobert also led the NBA with the most rebounds per game at 14.7.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have many decisions to make about the rotation of the team now. Acquiring the all-star big man has lost key players for the franchise as well as even not having any future losing four draft picks. Karl Anthony Towns can now move to the power forward position which helps the team in many ways. Towns will flourish being the four for the team instead of the center being able to focus on stretching out to the three. Rudy Gobert can fill the gap in the middle not allowing as much points allowed in the paint area will grabbing rebounds and being a great pick and roll defender still.
