Benefits of Mountains

What compels us to abandon the comfortable sofa in our living room and set off to the high freezing mountains? Why do people go to the mountains? What is it up there that is so special? Well, mountains are more than just a place to hike. In this short article, I will be discussing the top five benefits, along with some others, which we get from mountains.

1. Aerobic Training

There is no aerobic activity that is more natural than walking, jogging or hiking in the mountains. The uphill climb provides extra load and makes your workout more challenging than when you are on ground level. Moreover, when you are walking, jogging, or climbing up a hill, you are breathing much harder than when you are on level ground. This causes your body to release extra amounts of "feel good" endorphins. These endorphins make you feel happy, energized, and satisfied.

Hiking is not only a form of physical activity but also a way to introduce yourself and to discover the nature in its original form.

2. Fresh Air

In higher altitudes, the air is fresher and cleaner. It will help you relax, improve your circulation and clean your lungs. The mountains are perfect places for practicing yoga and deep breathing.

Additionally, the air in the mountains is often clearer than the air in lower elevations. This is because at lower elevations there are more pollutants in the air. You can get a clearer picture of the world around you by living in the mountains.

3. Finding Peace

Mountains have a unique spiritual significance. They are filled with magic and the only sound is the sound of nature. People have gone to the mountains to find peace throughout history. Both Moses and Muhammad (peace be upon them) spent time in the mountains to return with words that still represent a source of spiritualism and wisdom for the majority of the world's population. Of course, that doesn't mean you will return with a new book that will change the world, but a journey to the mountains will definitely improve your mood and fill your heart with peace and joy. Living in mountains, or even a journey to the mountains will recharge your batteries and give you much-needed rest and relaxation.

4. Adventure

If you're feeling adventurous, the mountain is the best place for you. Mountains contain very harsh and challenging environments and hold many undiscovered secrets. Hence, it is in the mountains where you will find some of the most exciting and worthwhile challenges of all time.

5. Unique Foods

The mountains do not only offer fresh air, but also unique food. Depending on the season and place you will find a variety of edible fruits, vegetables, and plants that grow in a clean unpolluted environment. Moreover, the snowfall and the ice that forms on the trees during the winter clean them out from all the harmful insects and other parasites that would otherwise make them unhealthy.

some of the foods that are grown in mountains are avocados, asparagus, bananas, broccoli, cantaloupe, cauliflower, celery, citrus fruits (like oranges and grapefruit), eggplant, kiwi fruit, mangoes, mushrooms, papayas, peaches, pears, pineapples, plums, potatoes, prunes, pumpkins, spinach, strawberries, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, watermelons, and zucchini.

Mountain living has many other wonderful benefits that are often overlooked. Living in a mountainous area has been proven to improve your health, increase your energy levels, help you maintain a healthy weight, and even slow down the aging process. Some of these benefits are hard to believe… until you experience them yourself.

Does that mean you shoulder go live in a mountain? That is not an easy decision to make. There is too much to give up. But the least you could do is take journeys to the mountains as often as you can in order to take a break from the crowded and polluted city.
