What is a Vision Board?

Vision boards can be powerful tools to reach goals and bring dreams to life. Also known as a dream board or treasure map, a vision board can be powerful as a change catalyst. Think of it as a collage of images representing YOU as your best self. Creating a vision board is about assembling images that represent the vision of you having everything you want to do, to be or to have in your life.

The original vision board concept involved collecting images of paper, maybe cut from magazines or even your own photos or image creations. You would then assemble these with glue on a poster board and keep it somewhere you will see daily, like on your desk or even hanging on a wall in your home or office.

Creating an electronic vision board with vision board software is a simpler and more modern version of the same concept. You could also create a free digital vision board with some of the free photo editing sites, as many of them now offer the option to create a collage free.

Free Vision Board Software

The free vision board software (link below) allows you to select images from a wide assortment provided. You can also add some of your own images, which is wise in that it makes it more personal.

Add words, quotes, affirmations or any text you like also. When finished, then save it on your computer so that you can see your vision board on your own screen periodically each day.

The site below (Dream It Alive) also offers options to get community support. Join like minds who also appreciate the power of visualization. Cultivate connections with like-minded dreamers and/or even learn ways to get your dream funded.

Create a Powerful Vision Board to Manifest Your Dreams

Putting together a cardboard vision board can be fun, and it can certainly work if you focus on those positive vibrations regularly. Using vision board software is just another method that many find easier and more versatile.

Choose images that resonate, those that give you a really excited feeling. Allow the vision to slide into your subconscious mind in a way that calmly quiets the ego.

Just the same as setting goals, it is really important to give it daily FOCUS!

Look at it daily. Use your vision board as a tool to help you create a matching vibration to whatever it is you want to have, be or do in your near future.

A vision board is simply a tool to help visualize your future. Creating one is a start, but daily FOCUS is the power and fuel to manifest that dream.

The Law of Attraction - in Action

Many use vision boards in conjunction with the law of attraction. Thoughts are powerful vibrations that create energy - powerful energy that can fire up the process of manifesting your desires.

The Law of Attraction suggests that you will attract to your life the very things you think most about. If you allow your thoughts to focus on worries and negative issues, you will only attract more ot the same. On the other hand, if your train your brain to focus on JOY and positive outcomes, the energy from these thoughts will attract the same.

A simple interpretation is this: 'What we think about, we BRING about.'

Believers in the law of attraction talk a lot about vibrations, meaning that If you are maintaining a vibration that matches what you are wanting, more things will come your way to make you feel that way.

You don't want to just look at the pictures on your vision board, you want to take a minute and FEEL IT - strive to FEEL the way you will when those images on your vision board are actually part of your life. Emotions are crucial to visualization and manifestation.

The Law of Attraction and Vision Boards

The Law of Attraction is the key to manifesting the abundant health, passion and wealth that is your birthright. You can easily apply it by using tour own unique vision board!

Let the vision board help you to FEEL as if you are living your dream life right NOW by giving it focus it daily. This visualization can attract energy to snowball the attraction of your dreams into your reality.

Make this vision board tool part of your daily routine. One way is to make the image your screen saver, so any time you would be otherwise looking at a blank screen you will see images of your vision! These images keep you inspired and focused on actions to manifest your dreams.

Guidelines for Creating Your Vision Board

Any goal that is not at the forefront of your mind is unimportant. Make your visions a pleasant and uplifting inspirational daily habit.

1) Include only YOUR visions. Do not be distracted by the visions of others. If you do look at a lot of vision board samples, you'll likely see lots of sports cars, huge mansions and cruise ships. Is that really YOU?

2) Be specific with reasonable visions. A homeless person isn't likely to suddenly manifest a mansion, right? Some people create a new vision board every 6 months to a year, which helps them to focus on that specific time frame with clarity. Be realistic. If you are penniless and unemployed, then do not put a monstrosity of a mansion on your vision board. Not to say it is necessarily wrong to "think BIG" but your vision board must reflect the attainable. Otherwise, you will feel overwhelmed and quit.

3) Keep the pictures large enough so you can see them easily. If you can not visualize yourself stepping into each photo on your vision board, then the pictures are too small. Make them bigger. I like to vary image sizes and overlap them a bit, giving it more of a collage look rather than a checker board.

4) Be as specific as you can. Vague notions like 'sunshine' or 'get rich' will not help you. Instead of 'sunshine' maybe depict a beach vacation, and instead of 'get rich' maybe envision a steady income from a new project.

Giving Visions Even More Power with Multi-Media

You might choose to also add music or even your own voice saying your affirmations.

It has been shown that hearing your own voice saying your affirmations has the ability to penetrate deep into your psyche allowing them to manifest even faster.

Be playful and have FUN with your visions!

What have you manifested with a vision board?

@marie-churchman: Oh yes, a very positive strategy! This digital version of a vision board is even MORE effective. The cut paper kind tended to get created then forgotten, also you canot make changes. Having your vision board right in front of your eyes on your screen is HUGE to keep it alive. Also changes and additions can happen in a snap!

marie-churchman on September 17, 2013:

I hadn't heard of vision boards until an episode of Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I've been curious since then. This lens has gotten me more interested. It seems like a really positive idea

Raymond Eagar on August 06, 2013:

I am going to try it .

@Chocolatealchemy: Thank YOU! Nice to hear from someone who has used this remarkable software.

Carolan Ross (author) from St. Louis, MO on July 23, 2013:

@KarenCookieJar: Well, yes to organize your goals and make them more real. Also the software is so much FUN to use. Most of us tend to set goals then forget them and it just doesn't work that way. To view that vision board daily on your screen makes a HUGE difference. AND you are sure to find yourself playing with it, adding images or words or even new music just because it is so much FUN. Goal-setting needs to be more FUN to encourage focus on it daily.

@aquarian_insight: WOW! That is truly impressive to have fulfilled such dreams. Yes I'd also created several of the cut paper kind of vision board. The software simplifies it so much AND offers even more options like audio, really fun.

Carolan Ross (author) from St. Louis, MO on July 23, 2013:

@SoundsOfBliss: Oh yes, the software provides a way to create an impressive multi-media presentation that's so simple to view (and update) no matter where you are.

@khatha0808: Check it out, a fun tool that anyone can use to help bring dreams closer to reality. Vision boards can work particularly well along with goal-setting, a beautiful collage of images that coincide with you reaching goals that you see daily on your computer screen can be powerful.

khatha0808 on March 07, 2013:

I have no idea what it is. This is why I love surfing on internet because I can find a lot of interesting topics.

SoundsOfBliss on March 05, 2012:

Software sounds like a good idea. It certainly adds a new dimension! Thanks.

I lost weight (around 90 pounds), got better after severe illness, got a gorgeous Italian man and moved into a place with him! I also fulfilled my dream of writing and setting up my tarot website. It works, but I have to admit I did it the old way; corkboard and lots of printing and cutting! I love the idea of Vision Board software, so will definitely check that out. Great lens.

KarenCookieJar on October 29, 2011:

I've heard about these in several books and I haven't gotten around to making one yet, but I really want to, it seems like a great way to organize your goals.

corteeze on July 19, 2011:

I've created a Vision scrapbook before, but never an online version. I guess there is software for everything these days! Thanks for sharing, I'll go check it out.

Chocolatealchemy from London, United Kingdom on February 18, 2011:

I made one about a year ago and it's wonderful - it still makes me smile to see all my hopes and dreams and you're right - the little pop up at the bottom of the screen with the different affirmations is perfect. You've made a great Lens, thanks.

mscaramelle lm on January 21, 2011:

I think this is definitely the way to go these days. I'm trying to convince friends and family to make their own vision board. I wish someone could come up with a cool way to convince teens to do this too without thinking it was silly.

Great Lens, thank you!

Funny, a youtuber name jewelchic used a vision board and Oprah came to her house for a birthday party and to kick off the season of OWN network in Australia. If you go to youtube and search for jewelchic you can see the video of Oprah in her basement admiring her vision board. Timely topic you have

I totally agree with the others who have commented before me. You have one nice article there. The steps are well explained and quite easy to follow. Just like you, I am also a fervent supporter of vision boards and the law of attraction. Another term for vision board is Dream board or treasure map, and is an amazingly proven tool in attracting success and prosperity.

I don't know about this. Interesting Larry King video, though.

Another useful tool for visualizing your goals is a Mind Movie - http://ix3ae.th8.us.

Both keep your goals in front of you. In digital form, both can be viewed on your computer, an iPhone or similar personal device digital frame, etc.

Great lens.

Patricia on November 28, 2009:

Many things! I have been doing them since 1988.

Kapalbility on November 19, 2009:

thank you. I will re-make my vision boards!

artco4154 on November 13, 2009:

Yes! Awesome idea. I made TWO smaller (more manageable!) vision boards â one for my office and one for home. I found that using more pictures and less words worked the best for me. Iâm also going to try to âchange the landscapeâ of the boards from time-to-time to keep them fresh.

For extra inspiration I went for some good-looking cork boards with custom frames on them that I picked out online at http://www.wholesalecustomframe.com/ . Iâm sure there are other places as well, but FWIW this place was pretty cheap.

Lucky621 LM on October 27, 2009:

Excellent lens - very well written - I have been successfully using a vision board for several years now and believe that everyone should use one.

hello i m arshi zaidi i m indian i read the book of secret i love the book and your story is very powerful and effactive the story is vision board .

Great lens! It is so important to surround yourself with reminders and triggers to bring your focus back to what you want to attract. It is such an easy, and unconscious, habit to focus on what you don't want and a vision board is a valuable tool to replace that habit with focusing on what you do want.

Can't wait to see more of what you have to say!

anonymous on March 11, 2009:

I used a Vision Board when I first met my husband. The focus of it was children. I made most of the board with pictures of happy smiley children that I cut out of family magazine and then I put a picture of my husband and I in the middle of the board. We both want a big family so I made a board that showed us surrounded by happy smiley children.

I had it up on the wall for only a few months before I took it down for some reason. I put it in the hall closet and kind of forgot about it. Now, it's funny, I made that board back in 2005, which was 4 years ago. I JUST remembered it recently when I was thinking about making more collages. We now have a 2 year old daughter, a 1 year old daughter and a 3 month old son! It worked like a charm and I didn't even have it up the whole time! We just kept getting pregnant like crazy!

anonymous on January 30, 2009:

I place a photo of my son and his five chidren on my vision board. I have not seen them or had any contact for 4 1/2 years, and yesterday my son came for a lovely friendly and positve visit. He wants to keep in touch. My vision board worked ; after placing that photo 3 days prior. Although I dream and pray for him to make contact, I believe that having a visual photo is what helped bring it alive.
