Woman Finds Encyclopedia From 1870s Filled With Facts That Sound Like They Come From Another Dimension

This is so weird! Did we shift timelines?

Old books are always magical objects in my mind. Their feel, their smell, the printed end papers or raised designs on the cover. Books from previous centuries were considered far more valuable objects in their time, and they are eve more so today. For some old books, we have a sense of why they were made, or what kind of story they were trying to tell. But foremothers it’s a mystery.

This old book collector found a volume first published in 1877 in an old bookstore, and is baffled by the stories she found inside. The book describes itself as an encyclopedia, but the entries seem to be lifted from another world entirely.

The video features an old book called The Encyclopedia of Wit and Wisdom. Published in 1877 and written—or compiled—by Henry Hupfield, the book purports to be a collection of anecdotes, poems, and stories. It was apparently a very popular collection and today you can easily find it online or in old bookstores.

The buyer was shocked to discover entries inside that talked about Egyptian artifacts being found in the United States, of elephants growing to massive sizes, giant bones being discovered, and swans living for two hundred years.

She is regularly posting readings and shots of pages from this book, in the belief that they depict a world or a timeline that once existed, but has been erased and its memory hidden from us.

What is most likely happening, however, is that these stories are just fictional. It is very common, even today, to publish books or magazines filled with anecdotes as if they are non-fiction while the stories inside are absolutely made up. From Penthouse letters to Chicken Soup for the Soul, many writers will tell you how they got credits for sending in fiction described as a true -to-life tale. This is most likely very similar.

Or at least, that’s what they want you to think.
