What can you tell a person who ask about the Lord’s Prayer? Can you tell them what it means? The Lord’s Prayer is not hard to follow and can be broken down in simplicity. Jesus asks us to go in private and pray to the Father in this manner.
Matthew 6:9 “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
In verse 9 of Matthew 6, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name”, signifies how the name of the Father is set apart. We should not address our spiritual leaders on earth. Our Father in heave in the only one that is worthy to be called the Holy Father. Matthew 23: 8-9 tell us our spiritual leaders are our brothers and call no man your father on the earth regarding spiritual things. In the pass you remember making statements like… “that’s my father or my pops, or dad.” These statements are acceptable because it’s in regards to your flesh and blood father, but your spiritual leaders are not your Father.
The brothers in the Catholic denomination are one of the religions calling themselves father because of their spiritual stratus. Not only should we not call men our fathers, but reverend Jeremiah Wright or reverend Martin Luther King jr. is inappropriate. Psalms 111: 9 tell us “holy and reverend in His name.”
We have heard in most protestant churches pastors calling themselves reverend, and the pastor’s flock would as well address their “spiritual leader” by the name of the Lord. According to what Jesus said in Matthew 23: 1-6, these guys sit in Moses seat. Also Jesus said, “All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.” We should have a problem with this because this verse labels our pastors as hypocrites, according to Matthew 6:5. Take heed, these passages in here to warn us that ministers of Satan disregard the hollowed name reverend.
Moving on to “thy kingdom come” is relevant to the future. According to Luke 1: 30-33 Jesus will be given the throne of His father David: “he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” Other scriptures that will show us “thy kingdom come” is the dream Daniel had in Daniel 7. Daniel saw the four winds which strove upon the great sea. The winds are four ruling nations that conquered the earth: Babylon, Medo-persian, Greek, and Rome. Daniel 7:9 tells us Jesus kingdom will come and the thrones of the four ruling nations will be cast down. Jesus will sit on his throne with white garments as snow and judge the world. When Jesus kingdom come the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
Let’s examine “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” We are talking about the will of the Father. Jesus is the spokesman for the Father and He said in Isaiah 42:9 “Behold, the former things are come to pass, new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.” In Isaiah 42: 1 Jesus is the chosen servant. No man has seen or heard the Fathers voice; therefore, Jesus is talking about himself through the mouth of Isaiah. When discussing the former things that are passed, you have to read verse 1 about the Father’s spirit being on Jesus, because Jesus came to do the will of the Father.
When Jesus kingdom comes, “He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.” God’s word will not return void. The ultimate will of the Father is to bring forth the covenant that was established from the beginning; which is to gather the people to their own inheritance and be a light to the gentiles (Is. 42: 4-7; 49:8-10). In Isaiah 30: 18-21 the judgment is upon the earth and the isles of the nations will wait on Jesus. They are blessed who wait on the Lord and they shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem and weep no more. This is at a time when we will see our ancient teachers and we will not be able to do our own thing and be our own boss because verse 21 says, we will hear a voice behind us telling us the right way to go. Therefore, Jesus will be straightening out this man for a thousand years according to Revelation 20:4, Judgment was given to the saints. Then the end will come when Jesus shall deliver the kingdom to the Father when He shall have put down all rule and author and power (1 Cor.15: 24-25).
Let’s go to Matthew 6: 11 and examine “Give us this day our daily bread.” Deuteronomy 8: 3 inform us this is the manna our forefathers new not. John 6:58 “This is that bread which came down from heaven: … he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.” This bread is the word of God and when you hear and do His word you are taking hold of eternal life- the things it takes to get salvation. Jesus is the living bread (John 6:51). In Matthew 6:25 Jesus told us to take no though for your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, or what you shall put on, but seek first the kingdom of God. Jesus let us know that our heavenly Father will feed us just as much as He feed the birds and they don’t reap or sow, nor do they store up in barns. Our Father knows our physically needs.
As we continue to pray, we ask our Father “forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” As we read about this unfaithful servant we see that he owed his Lord money. He asked his Lord to have patience with him and his Lord had compassion on him. But this unfaithful servant had a fellow servant that owed him far less money. The fellow servant begged him saying, “Have patience with me.” The unfaithful servant had no patience for him and he choked his brethren and put him in prison. His Lord heard about what he did and his Lord said, “Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?” Therefore, the unfaithful servant got what he put out…no mercy, but could have shown mercy. Have compassion, pity, and mercy for others so God will show that same compassion, and mercy on you (Matt. 18: 21-35).
Matthew 6:14 “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
At this point, this article brings us to verse 13 of Matthew 6. “And lead us not into temptation...” Examine your personal temptations that you deal with and put them on a small scale, because there are greater temptations we will mention soon that you don’t want to be part of. Fighting with ourselves when we are tempted is mentioned in James 1: 14 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” Is it food you are tempted with? Is money, sex, drugs your temptation? When you fall to the prey, let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does God tempt any man.
You can read about some historical temptations that have gotten the angels and man cut off. In 2 Peter 2: 4-9 you could not imagine being a part of the third part of the angel’s that went against God. It is bad to be tempted to think you can go against God and win. Would you have been a part of the generation of sinners God flooded with water which God said their thoughts and hearts was evil continually? Would you have been in those days of Sodom and Gomorrah a homosexual indulging in ungodly, abominable acts? When you are tempted and drawn away it will bring forth sin then sin brings death (James 1: 14-15).
Furthermore, there are greater temptations we are praying to the Father to deliver us from. “… but deliver us from evil.” The hour of temptation! This hour of temptation is a prophetic time related to 3 ½ years of God’s wrath on this earth. God will give the beast and the false prophet ruling authority for a space in time to make this earth desolate. Jesus is the Lamb in Revelation 6 chapter. Jesus opened the seals and the angel poured out the vials of wrath on the earth. The vials of wrath were power given to evil men. Job understood and he said, hid me in the grave keep me secret until your wrath pass (Job 14: 13).
The beast and false prophet is in affiliation with the great whore mentioned in Revelation 17:1-3. This whore received power from the Lamb in Revelation 6 to rule the earth. The great whore (v5) was carried by a beast that had the seven heads and ten horns. The seven heads are Babylon, Medo-Persia, The four heads on Greece and Rome, which is called Babylon the great- a family of rulership, or the Gentile Dynasty. The ten horns, or ten ruling nation are the European Economic Community (v7). The woman who is the great whore is Rome. Once you research how many mountains Rome has you will find this woman call the MOTHER OF HARLOTS (v9). The European Economic Community will rule for 3 ½ years with the Beast which the beast is Satan (v12). Therefore, we pray to the Father to deliver us from this evil to come.
Revelation 17: 13-14 tell us this community of nations will give power to Satan to fight the Lamb of God, but the Lamb shall overcome them. Revelation 18: 9 tell us that the kings of the earth shall see the “smoke of her burning”, because the Lord will overcome them once the hour of temptation is finished (v10). Revelation 18:20 “Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.”
Lastly, the “…kingdom, and the power, and the glory” of the Father is forever (Matt. 6:13). All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindred’s of the nations shall worship before God. For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations (Ps. 22:27). Revelation 7:10 “And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.”
