Life Changing Inspiration by Louise Hay

Who is Louise Hay?

Louise Hay is one of the founders of the self help movement.  She is probably best known for her 1984 book entitled "You Can Heal Your Life".

Her childhood was one of devastation that might give anyone a reason to give up on life, however, she never quit trying to find a better life even with all the negativity and despair she faced in her early years.

At the age of 60 she started her own publishing company, Hay House Publications, through which she has authored many books about changing your life by simply learning how to love yourself and treat yourself kindly through positive affirmations and life-enriching thoughts.

Now in her 80's she recently stated "I am going to make my 80's the best decade of my life!"  She is the inspiration to millions, me included!

How she came to realize her own magnificence - The story of her childhood and early adulthood

She was born in Los Angeles in 1926 to a poverty stricken mother. After her biological father walked out of their lives when Louise was 18 months old, Louise's mother entered into a violent second marriage which left Louise with lasting feelings of non-existent self esteem.

In addition to her troubling life inside of her own home, almost inconceviably a neighbor raped her when she was only five years old, adding to her traumatic childhood and feelings of being unlovable.

Because she had no self-esteem as a child , she has said that when she became a teenager she would sleep with anyone who would be nice to her.

By the age of 16, Louise had become pregnant and was a high school dropout. She was a lost soul by her own account but even as such, never gave up trying to find a better direction for her life.

She gave birth to a baby girl and offered the baby up for adoption into a really good home with a couple who desperately wanted a child of their own but could not conceive.

She then moved to Chicago, working low paying odd jobs to support herself. In 1950, she moved to New York and began a career in fashion modeling. Four years later, Louise married Andrew Hay, an English businessman.

After 14 years of marriage, her husband left her heartbroken and devastated for another woman. At this point in her life she was completely desperate to get herself together and began attending meetings at the Church of Religious Science where she learned about New Thought philosophy.

Louise became fascinated with the ideas brought to her attention at this church - that the thoughts we have shape our experiences and what we come to know as our reality. She plunged herself into learning everything she could about the subject and it became her life's work.

"All is well"

Louise Hay's Life Work

After joining the Church of Religious Science, Louise underwent training in the ministerial program and became a popular speaker and workshop leader at the church, moving on to counseling clients which eventually became her full-time profession.

Her research, study and practice led Louise to produce a reference guideline which explained the mental and psychological causes of physical illnesses.   She explained how one can get rid of physical ailments by simply inducing a positive thought process and a "love yourself" motto in their mind, something she emphasized in her lectures and workshops.

The pamphlet developed into her book, "You Can Heal Your Life" which was published in 1984. The book appeared on The New York Times miscellaneous paperback best sellers list in February 2008.

In addition to her social work activities, Louise Hay began assisting HIV infected people by leading support groups and creating AIDS awareness.   She called these sessions and activities Hay Rides.

Her work attracted attention and she was soon invited on The Oprah Winfrey Show which led her book ("You Can Heal Your Life") to make a place in The New York Times bestsellers list.   Since then the book has been translated into 30 languages and printed in over 35 million copies that's amazing!

Louise made advantage of her studies and beliefs when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the late 1970s. Not willing to undergo conventional treatment or medication for her sickness, Hay treated herself by following a regime of forgiveness, coupled with therapy, nutrition, reflexology and occasional enemas.

You Can Heal Your Life was made into a movie in 2008.   The film revolves around Hay's life and her teachings. Louise Hay's latest book, "You Can Create an Exceptional Life"  was released in September 2011.

Louise teaches us that when we forgive someone, it is for your own peace of mind
