  • Author:
  • Updated date:

God provides mankind with every type of food to benefit us in our sojourn on this earth. His provision for us preceded the creation of mankind on earth. Even the most primitive nations have learnt how to survive on their land.

Genesis 9:3

  • Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

Genesis 1:29

  • And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Aloe Vera

Nicodemus brought a hundred pounds of herbs Including myrrh and aloe vera to prepare Jesus for His burial. This showed that aloe was a sort of preservative for the dead.

Numbers 24:6

  • As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the Lord had planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.

Psalms 45:8

  • All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

Proverbs 7:17

  • I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

Songs 4:14

Aloe blooms in Portugal

Aloe vera is native to East and South Africa and in most subtropical and tropical locations, including Latin America, the Carribean, India and South East Asia.

Only one variety of several varieties has a legendary medicinal reputation dating back thousands of years.

Aloe vera is considered to be a member of the cactus family. In reality, it is a member of the lily family. There are over 200 species of the aloe plant, but only one true Aloe Vera. Only the authentic Aloe Vera provides the potent therapeutic effects.

Aloe Vera is one of the old natural remedies that is considered as one of the modern "miracle" drugs.

Aloe vera is considered beneficial for the immune system.

The immune system protects the body from diseases. Disorders in the immune system can result in disease, including autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases and cancer, resulting in recurring and life-threatening infections.

Aloe vera benefits

Aloe vera is one of the only known natural vegetarian sources of Vitamin B12, and it contains many minerals vital to the growth process and healthy function of all the body's systems. Numerous studies worldwide indicate that aloe vera is a general tonic for the immune system, helping it to fight illness of all kinds. Various research studies are underway to explore the potential of aloe vera components to boost immunity and combat the HIV virus, and to treat certain types of cancer (particularly leukemia). It may even have a role to play in managing diabetes.

Over 200 worldwide scientific research papers have been published on the effects of Aloe vera. The three main categories of research include anti-inflammatory, anti- bacterial, and anti-viral actions of Aloe vera. The juice is said to soothe digestive tract irritations such as colitis, ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome. Aloe's ability to encourage the release of pepsin (a gastric juice enzyme necessary for digestion) when the stomach is full is a possible reason for its ulcer-healing effects (Journal of the American Osteopathic Society, 1963, vol.62). In one study, oral use of Aloe for six months helped mitigate asthma symptoms in almost half of the participants. Eleven of twenty-seven patients studied who drank Aloe reported feeling better at the end of the study. Researchers think that results might be due to stimulation of the immune system, as well as naturally occurring anti-inflammatory agents in Aloe vera.

In 1994, the US Food and Drug Administration approved Aloe vera for the treatment of HIV. On-going studies worldwide show that Aloe taken in highly concentrated doses can stimulate the production of white blood cells that may help fight viruses and also tumours.

Aloe vera juice is ideal for maintaining a healthy digestive tract. This element is naturally detoxifying, allowing nutrients to be readily absorbed.

Some of the diseases mentioned below are diseases connected with the immune system. These are the more identified common diseases.

AIDS: HIV/AIDS is a serious immune failure and a leading cause of death worldwide. AIDS is considered as a life threatening sexually transmitted disease, and survival in AIDS is negligible.

ALLERGIES are defined as an aggravated immune response to a normally harmless substance. There are allergens such as pollen grains, mold spores, latex rubber and certain food items like peanuts or drugs like penicillin, which can cause allergies.

DIABETES is a chronic metabolic disorder that adversely affects the body's ability to manufacture and use insulin, a hormone necessary for the conversion of food into energy. Diabetes greatly increases the risk of blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and neurological disease.

HAY FEVER is fairly similar to allergies due to air-borne substances like pollen, mold spores or even animal dander. The symptoms include, runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, etc.

HIVES is the skin's response to an allergen. The allergen is food or some plant. Weals or lesions develop on the surface of the skin, as a reaction to the allergen. These are often itchy. Hives include swollen lips, tongue and face.

LEUKEMIA: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a cancer of blood cells, characterized by replacement of the bone marrow with malignant, leukemic cells. Many of these cells can be found circulating in the blood and can cause enlargement of the spleen, liver, and other organs.

SKIN ALLERGIES are similar to any other allergy, only the response is expressed through skin. Skin allergies are characterized by red and itchy skin upon which lesions and weals develop.

The tree aloe is often used as an ornamental plant. Its tubular flowers are rose pink (green-tipped); it flowers in winter and in its natural environment is pollinated by sunbirds.[1]

The generations of past mention the healing methods of Aloe vera plants being handed down through the centuries by word of mouth. We find that the use of Aloe vera appears throughout history with many testimonials of its medicinal values. The earliest record of Aloe vera use comes from the Egyptians. There are records of the Egyptians drawing pictures of Aloe vera plants on the walls of the temples. Many cultures such as the Egyptians would have even elevated the plant to a ‘god-like’ status. The healing properties of the Aloe vera were utilized for centuries earning the name “Plant of Immortality”. One of the common myths about the Aloes was that the two Egyptian queens, Nefertiti and Cleopatra used Aloe vera as part of their beauty treatments. However some sources refute these findings.1

The Mahometans of Egypt thought of Aloe vera as a religious symbol, and. they believed that the holy symbol hanging in the doorway would protect them from slanderous and evil influence.2 The Egyptians used the Aloe vera to make papyrus like scrolls as well as for treatment of tuberculosis.3 In ancient Egypt when a Pharaoh died, the funeral ceremony was by invitation only with a price tag included: a pound of Aloes. Egyptians used the odorous mixture of Aloe and myrrh for embalming and also placed it with the burial clothes. A man’s wealth and esteem for the king were estimated by the number of pounds of Aloes he brought.4

The aged people of Mesopotamia, a country located between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in present day Iraq used the Aloe vera to hold off the evil spirits from their residences. During the Crusades, the Knights of Templar created a drink of palm wine, Aloe pulp and hemp, which was named ‘the Elixir of Jerusalem’ and they believed that it added years to their health and life.5

The island of Socotra which lies near the Horn of Africa, became known for its Aloe vera plantations as early as 500 BC. The Aloe produced was used for trade to other countries such as Tibet, India and China. Aristotle convinced Alexander the Great to overtake the Isle of Socotra for their Aloe supply containing aloin.6 The Hindu people thought that Aloe vera grew in the Garden of Eden and named it the ‘silent healer’. The Chinese doctors of old thought that Aloe Vera had therapeutic properties so they called it ‘harmonic remedy’.7 In China the juice of Aloes was used to wipe out all rashes. 8 The Russians called Aloe Vera ‘the Elixir of Longevity’. The native American Indians used Aloe for its emollient and rejuvenating powers. 9

Aloe Vera was grown and used by King Solomon (971-931 BC). He highly valued its usage. In Psalm 45:8a it says,”All your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia.” Aloes were used on the occasion of a king’s wedding, maybe King Solomon’s wedding. He most likely grew his own Aloe vera. In Song of Solomon 4:14b it says,”…myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest spices.”10 Aloes were esteemed high with the finest spices. The fleshy leaves contained aloin, a substance which, dissolved in water and added to myrrh, was used in Biblical times for their highly perfected art of embalming.11 John 19: 38-40 says, “And after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one, for the fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. He came therefore, and took away His body. And Nicodemus came also, who had first come to Him by night; bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds weight.”12

i would like to point out that aloe vera was not used for the embalming of Jesus , however aloes were , but the aloes of the bible were fragrant types of trees and not aloe vera . let's keep the truth as being the truth !

I suppose it is better to use the natural product rather than the commercial ones.

For diabetic peripheral neuropathy, I just saw that it is lack of Vitamin B complex with aloe vera. Try this with Glucosamine and Chrondroitin tablets.

I use the natural gel of the aloe vera stalks to massage my feet, legs, and arms instead of the commercial skin lotion before I retire to bed, anyway it easily dries up. I'm suffering from diabetic peripheral neuropathy pain and it somehow soothes. I haven't tried to juice it until I read about it to be safe. But I'd tasted the commercial juice years back. A lot expensive then. God bless.

I find that quarter cup of aloe vera works on my constipation. Maybe, you can try 1/8 cup first and see how it works on you.

Because I am always constipated, I take it in the morning and again at night. Some people find the taste

bland. For me, it's OK!

It is quite pleasant to drink, but the taste is quite mild. I bought the brand from Korea which costs about $2.99 for 1.5 litre. Dont drink too much, just about a quarter cup for it is a laxative.

I wrote about the hub because I am always constipated and found out aloe vera is good for so many problems.

Enjoy your drink.

Good hub!

I've seen these "goopy" looking aloe vera drinks on the shelf and wondered what they're like. Ever try them? I figured it'd be like drinking water mixed with vaseline...not too pleasant. Maybe I'll try one now that I know its so good for me.
