Bible Coloring Pages - Old Testament

I am very excited to be able to share this list of Bible coloring pages with you. My goal is to create coloring pages to enable you to color your way through the entire Old Testament section of the Bible. I love the Bible and reading it to my children. These activity sheets are fun for children to be occupied with as you read to them from the Bible or from Bible story books.

Years ago when my children were younger, I bought a set of Bible coloring pages for our homeschool for my children to color as we read through the Bible. But I have discovered that the internet has so many free Bible coloring pages available that there is no need for you to buy any.

These Old Testament Bible coloring pages would be great for Sunday school, vacation Bible school, homeschooling, religious education, Scripture in schools, Bible notebooking etc. The pictures you see on this page are all my own artwork, some being adaptations of artwork from Sweet Publishing (under the CC BY-SA 3.0 license).

Ideas for using coloring pages

How will you use these Bible coloring pages?

Genesis is a book of beginnings and firsts. Here we read about God creating the world and all that is in it, including the first man and woman - Adam and Eve. We also read about how sin entered this perfect creation through one man's sin. Adam and Eve had sons and daughters to begin populating the world. But in Genesis we read about how Cain murders Abel - the first murder.

After a period of time, as the number of people on the earth has grown in number, they also have grown in wickedness. So God sends a flood to wipe out all mankind except for Noah and his family and all land animals except for a pair of each (and seven of the clean animals) which survive on a large ark. After the flood, mankind begins to increase in number again and the people become proud and decide to build a tall tower to avoid being scattered. So God confuses their languages so they will have to separate and spread around the earth.

There are also stories about how God chose Abraham, the great Biblical leader of Israel, and his descendants, including Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. We read of event which happen to them to test and increase their faith in God.

The book of Exodus starts with the Israelites in slavery in the land of Egypt. God raises up a leader, Moses, to appeal to Pharaoh to set them free. Pharaoh refuses to let them go, so God sends 10 plagues on the land of Egypt. Pharaoh finally agrees to let the Israelites go but after they have left, he changes his mind and pursues them to the Red Sea where God drowns the Egyptians as they are attempting to follow the Israelites as they are crossing the Red Sea on dry ground after God miraculously parts the waters.

We also read about how God gives the people a set of instructions to live by, including the ten commandments, and how he instructs the people to set up a tabernacle, a portable place of worship and gives them several feasts to help them in their worship.

Unfortunately the Israelites start to rebel against Moses and God. They start complaining and don't have the faith to believe that God can take them safely into the promised land. So God causes them to wander for 40 years in the wilderness.

After wandering in the wilderness for forty years, the Israelites enter the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua. God continues to work miracles for them - the Jordan River is parted (like the Red Sea) so the people can cross on dry land, and the walls of the impregnable city of Jericho collapse, allowing for easy conquest.

More Joshua

After Joshua dies, the Israelites are supposed to finish clearing out the land of the Canaanites and their idols. However they are content to mingle with the Canaanites and begin to adopt their sinful way of life, even worshiping their idols. So God punishes them by allowing the neighboring nations to attack them. Only when they call out to God does He send a judge who is able to deliver them from their enemies' hands.

This cycle continues all the way through the book of Judges (a period of about 300 years) - the people sin - enemies attack - the people cry out to God - God sends a deliverer - the people sin - ...

Other Judges

During the times of the judges there is a bad drought in Israel. An Israelite man from Bethlehem moves his wife, Naomi, and two sons to Moab, a neighboring country. There his sons marry local women, Ruth and Orpah. But all three men die. So Naomi travels back to Bethlehem accompanied by her daughter-in-law, Ruth.

Ruth ends up marrying Boaz, a farmer related to Naomi. They have a son, Obed, who is the grandfather of King David.
