Chinese Astrology Horoscope 2017 Red Fire Rooster
The Chinese Zodiac year of the Fire Rooster runs from 28th January 2017 to 15th February 2018.
Chinese astrology is different to western astrology. Rather than being based on where the stars are in the sky, it is based on the type of life force currently on earth. It states that Qi, the life force, is all over the earth, and when a child is born, it absorbs the type of life force for a particular year. Like the climate where there are four different seasons, the life force has different seasons. There are 60 different seasons, each of them a year long. And just like autumn or winter or summer or spring, each day is not the same, and there is variation depending on ‘when’ you are on the earth.
The Chinese Zodiac Classification System
Just as our climate has a classifications system, i.e. what season it is, whether it is raining, windy, hot, cloudy, etc., so the Chinese system of astrology has different groups.
So apart from the twelve animals with which most people are familiar, there are five types of each animal. You can be a wood monkey or a metal rabbit (which is what I am), etc. You also have a rising sign which determines what other sign in mixed with yours. So, as with western astrology, eastern astrology is complex. You can read about the Chinese rising signs here. I am a metal rabbit with a dragon rising sign.
General predictions for the Future
Chinese astrology does not tell the future so much as tell you how the energy with which you are born will mix with the energy of the current year. So, for instance, a person born in the year of the dragon might have a difficult year if it is the year of the ox. That’s because dragon energy and ox energy don’t get along. It will seem an uphill battle. No specific events are predicted – just the general tone of the year, where you will have strength and how to work with characteristics which clash with the energy of the current year. As the old saying goes, forewarned is forearmed.
Characteristics of the Rooster Chi
The Rooster rises early in the morning, a sign of someone who works hard. So a characteristic of rooster chi is discipline and steady work to get things done. Those accustomed to slow, logical reasoning with the patience not to expect immediate happy outcomes will fit in well with the year. Those who are accustomed to living life as the moment arrives, constantly basing decisions on their feelings, and anticipating success without some solid elbow grease will not fare so well.
If you’re practical (like the Capricorn), then you will manage the energy of the 2017 year well.
The rooster is loyal to family, friends and loved ones, so with this influence, even those love rats who are cads and bounders will find themselves with more integrity in their relationships! There will be focus on love, marriage, and birth during the year. Even professional relationships will benefit, although the rewards may only arrive in future years. It is a good year to consolidate and form bonds with others.
It’s important to dress well, keep things tidy, organized, in tip top shape, be clear about where you’re going and who is with you. The rooster rewards those who are diligent and detailed in their tasks and attitudes.
Compatibility between the Different Signs
The Short Version for 2017
Essentially, for all signs, relationships will be in high relief, money will be tighter than normal, events will move fairly quickly, and logical planning is vital. The blurb below will give you an idea of how the year’s energy will interact with your own.
While the energy of the year will have a direct effect on the birth sign, remember that there is also a rising sign, and the rising sign may counter or work with the birth sign. For instance, I am a rabbit with a dragon rising sign, so while rabbits will not have a particularly good year, dragons will. So it’s not a black and white picture.
Sheep / Goat
The quiet and loving approach will suit in many ways, but it will still be a year of reason rather than a year of ‘feeling’ what is ahead. Warmth in relationships will pay high rewards, and an effort to be more outgoing will bring much reward.
Although it is not a good year in terms of money, sharing creative endeavours with friends may ultimately lead to profit.
Man’s best friend should do well in a year when friendship is flourishing. That said, it’s not going to be a particularly easy year. The speed is fast, the activity overwhelming, and logic, reasoning, and analysis are what it takes to succeed. The dog, however always responds with love and kindness, believing that this will resolve all things.
Dogs will need to temper their generosity a bit and replace it with a dose of practicality. Kindness is good, but this year, it will have to make sense. Fortunately, patience will work for you.
The ox will have a good year as the life force shares some of its characteristics. This means that there will not be high stress but rather a steady pace in a straight forward direction. Taking time to think things through and pace them in a logical direction will ensure a better year than the previous years.
Money will be tight as is true of the energy of 2017. Best to budget and to invest for the longer term. Splurging is not recommended.
As roosters focal points are relationships, the ox will be blessed in that bonds will become more loving and much enjoyment can be had during the year.
It’s always a good thing when the chi of the year matches the qi of the year into which one is born. The key characteristics of the rooster - independence, practicality, diligence, and a keen eye for what is really happening is going to go far.
Fortunately, roosters are in their element when they are working towards something, one step at a time, going in a particular direction, and never deviating, not matter what. The energy of the year will reward all efforts.
Relationships will be good for the rat this year. Dressing well and keeping things spic and span will pay good dividends. Planning everything in advance will ensure better success as it is a year where logic, preparation, taking care, etc. are blessed by the gods of the life force. However, not everything will go smoothly, so if energy isn’t put into existing relationships, they could falter. This is not a year in which going with the flow is a wise thing to do.
That said, while everything will move in a logical order, they could move quite speedily, so it is a good thing to have everything ready to go. Preparation is essential. The money is not so good so care has to be taken.
The hugely active monkey loves to have fun, and while the year could be fun, if not planned well, could lead to places that will not be so happy. Best to slow down, focus on learning to be diligent and patient, while taking advantage of a good social life.
It’s going to be one of those years where success will not come instantly, and each step along the way will need to be examined and acted upon with speed.
How the Chi Masters make the paper ignite! Scam!
The horse will need to make an effort this year. Fast, high energy is great, but it needs a logical direction, so the horse will need to slow down before deciding where to go. The direction should be planned carefully, a result of reason rather than intuition. It’s probably a good idea to take time to hear what others have to say.
All in all, much will be enjoyable as a result of friendships, love affairs, professional relationships, etc. being in high focus.
With the tiger’s outgoing nature, relationships will be even warmer this year. Working with others will be beneficial for finance, as well as ensuring that all plans run smoothly. The key to success for the tiger is making decisions and acting on them. While events may happen quickly during the year, early to bed and early to rise will ensure that tasks will not be left incomplete. It is vital that all plans are completed as quickly as possible.
It is a good year for the tiger.
Eastern Astrology vs Western Astrology
The dragon is the luckiest of all and by adjusting that red hot energy to fit in with a year that demands a speedy, logical path, it could be an excellent year. The fact that rooster relationships are at the forefront of the Chi lunar year means that the dragons ability to have exceptionally good relationships with all will bring him luck in all s/he does.
Remember that all luck and benefits come from the quality of our relationships with others.
Boar / Pig
Perhaps the love of luxury will need to be toned down as the year will not be a good one for finances. In other aspects of the pig’s character (tolerance of others, integrity, and a loving nature), things will work well. So this is a mixed bag year.
The way to get through it is to look at your life with more objective eyes, plan a particular path for the year that is methodical rather than intuitive, and keep to those steps.
Rabbit / Cat
Some years are better than others, and this is not a ‘better’ year. The rabbit need not waste this year, however. Better to invest wisely and prepare for the following year. Training in new skills will be profitable in the medium to long term, and being honest in relationships while putting others ahead of yourself will probably be the better path to take.
It is also a good year for the insular rabbit to learn to work with others. The bonds that form will have good results in future years.
The snake naturally works hard and this ties in with the energy of the year. So the reward will be there when it comes to task doing. However, snakes tend to keep to themselves and often prefer their own company. This will conflict with the bonding aspect of the year and needs to be improved. As the life force energy of the year encourages friendship, it is a good time to take advantage of this particular aspect and improve relationships. 2017 will be some good, some bad.
How to Work Out Your Horoscope for Yourself
It’s more about understanding one’s own nature and understanding the nature of the life force in a particular year. To draw an analogy, when it’s winter, our natures don’t change, but we dress for winter. When summer comes, we don’t change our characteristics either, but if we have a skin that doesn’t take well to the sun, we use a protective lotion while those with naturally high melanin gallivant and take things easy. So take a good look at your own characteristics. Look at the characteristics of the year you are in, and then see how you can prepare for it.

I always found Chinese astrology much more interesting, there's always similarities among people of the same age....
Tessa Schlesinger (author) on September 12, 2016:
Thank you. :) I wanted to do something different to the norm. Allow people to figure it out for themselves a bit, so that in future years they could just check if the energy was compatible, and if not, to figure a way around it. Thank you for your kind words. :)

What an awesome article! I had fun figuring out that I'm a sheep (as well as my husband!) and reading about the predictions. This is so comprehensive and well done!
