Church Should Be Training Ground for Serving in the Kingdom of God

Rev. Margaret Minnicks is an ordained Bible teacher. She writes many articles that are Bible lessons.

Church building is much smaller than the Kingdom of God.

Church building is much smaller than the Kingdom of God.

If you talk to leaders of the church for about ten minutes, you will soon find out within that short period of time whether they are training their members to focus on the church building or on building the Kingdom of God

If you visit a church on only one occasion, you will be able to see whether the leaders are focused more on church business including programs and events than on kingdom business including spiritual behavior.

So, what's the difference between the church and the Kingdom of God?

People leave the church when they outgrow it.

People leave the church when they outgrow it.

It is unfortunate that church leaders train people to be church people instead of kingdom people.

The church is important, but the kingdom is much bigger than the church. If you put a fish in a small bowl, it will grow only to the size of the bowl. Leaders are keeping their members in a fishbowl when they need to go out into the ocean that is much better where they have space and opportunities to do what God intends for them to do instead of being contained in the confounds of a church building.

No matter how big your church building is, the Kingdom of God is much bigger.

Here is something else to think about: The church can fit into the Kingdom of God, but the Kingdom of God cannot be squeezed into the church building. It is very sad to see people stuck in the church instead of being thoroughly prepared to live, work, and serve in the Kingdom of God.

Church Kingdom of God

Vision of only what's going on in their local church

Vision focused on the neighborhood community, and the world

Want more people to sit in the pews

Want more people to go out into the vineyard

Strive for more people on the rolls

Strive to share the gospel with those in the world

Have programs and sell chicken dinners to raise money for things in the church

Evangelize to help those outside the walls of the church

Should prepare people for the Kingdom of God

Should be a training ground on a larger scale

Only a pit stop

This is what people should seek according to Matthew 6:33

Preparation for serving in Kingdom of God

Church should prepare workers for the Kingdom of God.

Comes up with gimmicks to get people into the church

Power of God helps people serve in the kingdom

Complacent people stay in the church

Kingdom people are not complacent.

Place for a dress rehearsal and on-the- job training for the kingdom

Result of training in the church

Main events are the Worship Service on Sunday and Bible Study on Wednesday night

Kingdom events are ongoing 24/7.

Only clergy members are equipped

Everyone is a minister of reconciliation.

Goal is to get people into the church

Goal should be to get people out of the church and into the kingdom

The church should be training ground for the Kingdom of God.

The church should be training ground for the Kingdom of God.

Jesus focused on the Kingdom of God and not the church.

The time has come. The Kingdom of God is near.
Repent and believe the good news (Mark 1:15).

Jesus did a lot of teaching about the Kingdom of God. There are many parables in the Gospel of Matthew about the Kingdom of God. In contrast, the gospels only mention the word church two times.

Church Leaders' Fault

It is the church leaders' fault that church members are more interested in church building than the Kingdom of God that goes beyond the walls of the church.

The church has become a place of retreat from the world. However, it should be a recruiting station and training ground for the Kingdom of God.

When the church is only concerned about what happens within its own building, then it does not fulfill the great commission to go out into the world and make disciples of all nations, according to Matthew 28:19-20.

wow, keep going you are getting close. Good article now keep closing in on Christ as the ONLY answer

Margaret Minnicks (author) from Richmond, VA on May 20, 2018:

Tony, that topic has been on my mind for a while. I wanted to write the article in a way to show that the local church is important, but it not a little country club as you have stated.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject.

Tony Muse from Texas, USA on May 20, 2018:

LOL, you almost had me with your article title and I thought that I going to have to "lovingly disagree with you". But you are spot on, the kingdom of God was to be expansive, not inclusive. So many people think of church as their own little country club with reserved seating and we tend to forget that it is our responsibility and duty to share the gospel with the lost sheep of the world.

Great article, again.
