Lucifer is widely known to be the name of the Devil who was once an angel. He is believed to be the fallen angel cast out of heaven because he rebelled against God. It is also said that Lucifer made one-third of all the angels in heaven rebel against God. He and the one-third of the angels that decided to follow him planned to stage a coup to take over God's throne in heaven.
The scriptures say that God cast down the fallen angels to the depths of hell with Lucifer as their leader. The fallen angels are also believed to be the ones responsible for encouraging humans to do evil deeds in the world. Some gospels also say that evil did not exist until Lucifer decided to rebel against God. Before his rebellion, God called him a light-bearer and a morning star (Isiah 14:12). After his rebellion, Lucifer's name changed from a light-bearer to Satan, which meant "adversary" in the Hebrew language.
Some verses like Ezekiel 28:11-19 say that Lucifer was an angel who was guarding the mountain of treasures in heaven. It meant that God put a lot of trust in him and his betrayal was difficult for God to forgive because he also convinced other angels to rebel. In Isaiah 14:13, it is mentioned that Lucifer tried to dethrone and replace God as the lord of heaven. This intention of Lucifer can also be seen as a reason for his getting exiled from Heaven. Luke 10:18 mentions that Lucifer fell from heaven at the speed of lightning. Revelation 12:9 says that the Devil is deceiving the whole world and will continue to deceive all of humanity until Christ makes a return and defeats him.
