In article 8 I have started writing on the type of “god” is Asaph referring to in Psalm 82:6 while talking to the people of Israel which applies to us because we are the spiritual Israel. I want us to see two more points on this to help our understanding of the verse.
c) Act Like God
My mentor of blessed memory when explaining the majestic nature of God uses duck to explain as it is common in our land (because there is free range of animals unlike other countries where animals are caged). When ducks are walking on the streets they would not be in any hurry as they will be taken a step after the other unlike cocks which walk hurriedly. He now says, God created the animal to walk like that to show his majesty to show that he, God, takes his time when doing things.
God also expects us, the spiritual Israel to always take our time before doing anything, he wants us to always show his majesty on earth. therefore, in the book of Genesis, he says we should take dominion on all things and occupy on earth till he comes. (Gen. 1:28; Luk. 19:13)
We have gotten to occupy because we have been bought with a new price and we are new generation.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” (1 Pet. 2:9)
A new generation of people will do things differently because if new thing is behaving like the old thing, it is better to be discarded and return to the old thing that has been in use and which we have been accustomed to.
This Levite Asaph was telling them that God expects of the Israelis to do things differently because they are royal priesthood and should act “royally” and “priestly” in the world.
(d) Judge Like God
This is one of the highest of all attributes of God. God judges right, he is no respecter of persons (Act. 10:34), he will not usurp judgment for any reason, he will not judge anyone without giving him or her a fair hearing, a chance to prove himself.
It should be noted that before God concluded with Esau, he gave him a level playing ground. (Rom. 9:10-13; Mal. 1:2)
God expects us to be like him do justly and rightly if we really belong to him on earth.
The second phrase in the verse, “and all of you are children of the most High.” (Psa. 82:6b) is what we want to examine now.
Children of the Most High
I want us to see closely what Asaph the Levite means by this word.
(i) All Inclusive
By this phrase, “all of you” Asaph was saying that all the Israelis were considered by God to be his children.
“And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:” (Exo. 4:22)
Since they all are his children he was telling them that the word is not exclusive to some sets of people; Levites, Priests, Prophets, Kings etc but the word includes each and every indigene of Israel.
Bringing this closer, to us, we shall recall that Apostle Paul in his epistle to the Galatians 6:16 says
“And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.” (Gal. 6:16)
Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ now are Israel of God, since we are Israel of God, we therefore need to know that what Asaph is saying here is directly related to us.

(ii) What a Child/Son Means to Jews
It is good to herein state that the Jews know the value of a child, and especially when the child is a son, it has the greatest weight. We need to know that one of the major accusation against Jesus by the Jews was that he calls himself God’s Son, he was killed because of that.
This is because the rulers of the land, know that anyone who calls himself someone’s child and the person is not there, all or everything that the father has the right to, should be bequeathed to the child. in other words, Israelis do not believe a man is not around when his child is around, the child is the father personified at such places.
“But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
“Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.” (Joh. 5:17-18)
Let us also see another account from the same book.
“Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
“The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.” (Joh. 10:32-33)
On another stronger note, in the land of Israel when anyone calls himself the son of a man they believe the person is equal with the man, his father, that is the meaning of a child in Israel being equal with your father.
Thence, as the spiritual Israel, it also means that we are spiritually equal to God on earth.
