Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more
Previously I have talked about some of the probable outcomes of the people yea the believers forgetting who they are in the Lord.
In this article however, I want to talk about what or why he calls his people and every spiritual Israel to remembrance of who they are in the Lord.
Why He Calls Them and Us to Remembrance
When we do not know some things, we would not know how to react to those things appropriately nor know the associated benefits to those things. This Asaph has noticed thence he decides to call the people of Israel to remembrance of who they are because of some or all of the followings.
1. To Be Free
He notices that the people of God walk and interact with one another like slaves because they do not know who they are in the Lord. He however does not want this to continue, therefore, to enhance their freedom he told them what they lack so that they shall be free.

2. To Know the Truth Hidden for Ages
He calls them to remembrance because he knows that they were in oblivion of this truth for ages. If they continue in this ignorance, they will continue to live a borrowed life. He calls them to remembrance because he knows that when they know the truth they shall be free as the bible says, “and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (Joh 8:32) To be free we need to know the truth.
3. To Be Able to Possess Their Possessions
He calls them to remembrance because he wants them to possess their possessions on earth.
“But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.” (Oba. 1:17)
We need to know who we are if we want to possess our possessions.
4. To Do Justly and Rightly
He calls them to remembrance because the Lord God expects them to represent him well on earth. One of the things that will show that one really represents God well on earth is when we judge right.
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” (Mic. 6:8)
5. To Stand for Him on Earth
It is not understatement that when a lawyer does not know someone really well, the lawyer would not be able to defend the person rightly and appropriately before the jurists. It is because Christ knows us well therefore he can defend us before God in heaven.
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” (1 Jn 2:1)
As he is standing for us in the heavenly places before his father and the spiritual beings, he also expects us to stand for him on earth by telling people about his love for all mankind through different means.
6. Speak Like Him
He also expects that we be speaking like him boldly, in faith and from the word of God.
“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (1 Pet. 4:11)
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (Col. 3:17)
Asaph the Levite shows the people who they are through his word and wants them to really occupy such positions in their respective disciplines on earth. This God also wants from us on earth, occupying the position of small gods, letting people know that we belong to our Father and our God through Jesus his Son. If you have abinitio been unable to know who you are in faith, I trust that you would have by now who you really are in faith.
