Who Is JESUS?
There are several "Christian" faiths out there in the world, and yet what distinguishes the true from the false (the cults) has everything to do with who they say Jesus Christ is. When reasoning with those of the false Christian cults, do you focus on other doctrinal differences, such as "who are the 144,000 chosen ones?" or "is there a Hell?" Is that a matter of life and death as much as the very question, "Who do you say that I AM?" Are you able to prove the divinity of Jesus Christ to anyone who challenges this truth, based on the very Bible they claim to follow? This hub will give you challenging evidence to equip you in such a situation.
The Bible alone proves the identity of Christ beyond doubt. Some people don’t believe the Bible, and this discussion would be fruitless with them. Some doctrines teach Jesus was a prophet, a teacher, a god (not the God), or an angel. Yet, in the Bible Jesus asked His disciples what the word on the street was regarding His identity in Mat 16:13. In verse 14, Jesus is told that some say he is John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. Then Jesus asked Peter in verse 15, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “Thou are the Christ [Messiah], the Son of the living God.”
In Matthew, Peter confessed who Jesus was in the flesh, the Son of God. However, there are TWO more witnesses that wrote of Peter's words that we should seriously consider: Mark 8:28 and Luke 9:20 - "Peter answering said, The Christ of God." And look at what the Apostle Peter wrote in 2 Pet 1:1: “Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
To understand these statements and the power behind them, look at the Old Testament:
- 1 Cor 10:4 is speaking of "the Rock" in Ex 17:6 "all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ."
- 1 Chr 16:35; Ps 18:46 and Isa 45:15 and many more refer to YHWH, Yehovah, the LORD God as "God and Savior".
Most everyone can call Jesus the 'Savior', but not God, the Father. Look at what God said in Isa 43:11; 45:21 and Hos 13:4: "you were not to know any god except Me, For there is no savior besides Me."
Test of Deception
1 John 4:1-3 tells us, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits [angels or prophets] to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this is the spirit of antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.”
If I were to say to you, I am Jane Doe who has come IN the flesh, wouldn’t that imply that I existed somewhere OUTSIDE the flesh? False prophets twist this scripture to merely state that Jesus Christ was a man of flesh. Even worse, there are those who don't believe He actually was flesh, bone and blood, but comes in "our flesh" via a spiritual awakening! There’s too much proof to deny Jesus never existed on earth. But to confess He has come IN the flesh would mean something entirely different ~ something divine. Some false prophets confess Jesus is God, but then deceive the followers with twisted doctrine, in that they deny that the Holy Spirit is God. If Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and yet is called God's Son, is that Spirit not the Spirit of God? Islam believes Jesus is a prophet and NOT the Son of God. Furthermore, they believe the Holy Spirit is their prophet Muhammad. Jehovah's Witnesses and Seventh Day Adventists believe Jesus is Michael the Archangel; Mormons believe Jesus is one of three separate persons of God; Egalitarians believe the Father conceived the Son with the holy 'Mother', the Spirit...the list goes on and on. I believe Jesus is the one, true God and here's why:
Jesus is NOT an Angel
Heb 1:13 states that God said, "But to which of the angels has He ever said, 'SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I MAKE THINE ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR THY FEET?'".
- Heb 12:2 “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Heb 1:6 also states, "And when He again brings the first-born into the world, He says, 'AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM.'"
Now, compare this to Rev 22:8-9 "And I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. And he said to me, 'Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book; worship God.'"
What are the first two of the 10 Commandments?
- "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me."
- "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God."
The Fallen Angel (Lucifer, the Antichrist)
Gal 1:8 “But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed.”
1 Cor 11:13-15 “For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light [Greek word phos (foce); to shine or make manifest, especially by rays, luminousness:-fire, light]. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants (angels or men) also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their deeds."
John 8:12; John 9:5; John 12:46 all state that Jesus is the light [Greek word phos (foce); to shine or make manifest, especially by rays, luminousness:-fire, light] of the world.
Do you know that Lucifer is the Hebrew word heylel (hey-lale’); the morning star. Now, let’s look at Rev 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."
So, all these churches and doctrines out there that claim to be walking "in the light", those who don’t believe Jesus Christ is indeed GOD, are deceived by heylel. Does Luciferian ring a bell?
PROOF that JESUS is GOD!
Jesus is God with Us
Old Testament (OT) Prophecy:
Isa 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel (with us is God).
Isa 9:6 “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God [El], Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
New Testament (NT) Fulfillment:
Luke 1:31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus (Iesous; Yehoshua, same as Yehowshuwa meaning Yehovah saved).
John 1:1, 14 “In the beginning was the Word…the Word was GOD (Theos, the Supreme Divinity).” “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” False teachers say this is supposed to read, “The Word was a god.” Well, if He's 'a god' you'd best not worship Him!
Jesus is I AM
OT Prophecy: Ex 3:14 “And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.”
NT Fulfillment: John 8:58 “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.’” Notice He did not say, "I WAS". "I AM" is the very name of GOD.
Prepare the Way for Yehovah
OT Prophecy: Isa 40:3 “A voice is calling, ‘Clear the way for the LORD (Yehovah) in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God."
NT Fulfillment: Mat 3:1-3 “Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet, saying, ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the LORD (Yehovah), Make His paths straight!’” (Confirmed in Mark 1:1-4; Luke 3:3-6; John 1:19-23)
John 1:29-31 “The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He on behalf of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.' I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water."
God Forgives Sins
Isa 43:25 “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.”
Jer 31:34 “They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD (Yehovah),' for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD (Yehovah), "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."
Mic 7:18 “Who is a God like Thee, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”
Mark 2:5, 7 “When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven. But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, ‘Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?" (confirmed in Luke 5:21)
Acts 20:28 "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood."
Eph 1:7 “In Him [Jesus] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.”
Psalm 100:1 "The LORD is my Shepherd"
John 10:11 "I am the good Shepherd"
Who raised Jesus from the dead?
John 2:19-21 "Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews then said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" But He was speaking of the temple of His body." Below, you will read Acts 17:30-31, which state God raised Jesus from the dead. Then again, Romans 8:11 states the Spirit of God raised Him from the dead. Is this contradictory? He is "I AM".
The Wrath of God
Rev 6:16 “and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;”
Rev 14:10, 19 “he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with the fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.”
John 12:47-48 "If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the Word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day."
Acts 17:30-31 “Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man [Jesus] whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead."
Truly, Jesus is the 'image' of God, for God is invisible (Col 1:15). When God judges, the judge will be God in the person of His Christ (Acts 3:18) - JESUS.
The First and the Last
Isa 44:6: "This is what the LORD says—Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God."
Rev 1:17–18 "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: 'Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades."
See the Father
John 14:8-9 “Philip said to Him, Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me?”

Who do you say that I AM?
If you’ve read all this information and feel like you may have very well been deceived by the leaders you’ve followed for weeks, months, years….I know it can be PAINFUL to find out someone has either intentionally or unintentionally lied to you. I tend to believe the latter. People are deceived, meaning they don’t know better until the truth is revealed. The Deceiver is behind it and is the father of lies. I pray the Lord opens your precious eyes. “Open our eyes, Lord; we want to see Jesus!”
Luke 24:45 "Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures"
What Do You Believe About the "Trinity"?
- Let Me Tell You WHO GOD IS!
Who is GOD? WOW. What a concept to try to wrap our human brains around! Ive read all kinds of interpretations of the trinity and some of the scriptures cause confusion as to exactly how we are to interpret the entity of God Himself.

I just thought I would share a great analogy to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. My mom told me it was like three blind men coming up to an elephant...one felt the tail and thought it was a whip, another felt the ear and thought it was a fan and the other felt the trunk and thought it was a snake (or the leg and thought it was a tree). Her point was that we do not see completely so we interpret as best as we can but in the end it is one elephant. Another good post dear :-) God bless you.

Hi Brother Dave, I trust one day you will KNOW that there is only ONE "I AM"; the Father being the Holy Spirit, manifested in many forms in the Old Testament, and manifested in the flesh, the second Adam, the Son of God in the New Testament, in order to shed His own blood for our sins (Acts 20:28). He is now the Spirit that lives in us because of this redemption, and the future manifestation that we will see of "I AM" is the LORD, Jesus Christ ~ the visible image of the invisible God (Col 1:15). I love you dearly, brother. JD

Hi Sinbadsailorman, I'm glad you know who the One true God is. I am not a 'traditional' Christian, in that I don't follow the traditional, latter-day teachings of men = God in three persons. I believe He is One God, Spirit (the invisible Holy Spirit) and flesh (visible in Christ Jesus our Lord).
JW's know there is only One God, but do not acknowledge Jesus as the One true God. Mormorms say they believe Jesus is God, but one of three, literal persons of flesh and bone. Really, tradional 'Trinitarians' believe the same, as they don't believe the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are the other, though all are equally God. No way to slice that but into three persons, three beings, three gods. I do not believe this.
And, praise God, I am not alone and haven't been in this understanding. No denomination taught me this; the Holy Spirit taught me this, as He has countless believers since His resurrection. It is a joy to meet others that embrace this truth with joy! God bless.

Judah's Daughter this is one of my favorites of your hubs although I no longer use scripture as you still do and very well. I whole heartly agree with what you are saying that Jesus Is THE GOD who is in the flesh. I try to stick mainly in telling the story and not defining the gospels, but we all have our work to do.
Even still many Christians don't no how to take what or how I say what it is they should already know. I have many a times sent both JW's and LDS's away wonder what it is that they believe And yes this is by far the best question to ask them and then have them state what it is they believe and where they got it from, I have several sisters who are aflicted with both of these flase religions of the christ, that they don't know! Three out of five and sadly they won't hear me just yet. Great Hub my Sister in Christ I do Know who my Saviour is and who He shall always be. Thank you for this hub Donnie/ Sinbad the Sailor Man

AMEN, Pollyannalana ~ it's a very SAD reality, that they actually believe Jesus is a created angel, Michael to be exact, and that He didn't really rise from the dead in the body in which He died, but was merely annihilated and recreated as Michael. They have no Savior; they are lost. They believe that only 144,000 (already chosen and the last remnant are dying now) will see 'heaven' and the rest of only them, the JW's will dwell forever on the earth. They are given that right for working their way to it, so they go door-to-door to 'earn' their way. There is NO other way, but Jesus Christ, our God and Savior...the very WAY they reject. Many have gotten saved and are testifying about how the Lord Jesus revealed Himself to them.
I have a multitude of other hubs on the Diety of Christ; if you would like more, I invite you to read my hubs, "Let Me Tell You Who God Is!" (the link is at the base of this hub) and "ROCK of OFFENSE". I have others that address some most difficult questions, such as "THREE That Bear Record?", "GOD: Let Us Make Man In Our Image?" and "1 Corinthians 15:28: Jesus Subject to the Father?" You may find them fascinating and INSPIRING, I pray. God bless you, Pollyannalana!!

I have wondered for years knowing something wasn't quite right with JW because I had 4 or 5 come to my house many years ago and I just loved them and they kept coming back and when I would talk about Jesus they would say yes they believed all that I believed but they did not like to talk about Jesus and the more they didn't the more I did. Jesus is the Savior I have had beside me since I was told about him at a very young age and baptized at about 12. Finally they started getting sort of hostile because I kept wanting to talk about Jesus and it really hurt me to tell them to not come back and even then I didn't know why, just I knew Jesus was not their Savior.

P.S. I pray one day the Watchtower stands alone before the Lord, unto their own anathema ~ because the followers of "it" do have the choice to come out of "it" and walk in the Truth until 1) they physically die or 2) the Lord returns.

I LOVE the Holy Spirit in YOU, sister! You are so right!!!
"But here's the thing, the Watchtower Society really cannot correct that teaching now--even if they would WANT to.
Because...if they admitted they were wrong about the identity of Jesus Christ, no one would believe any of their doctrines! It would collapse their credibility as "the Truth". So cling--they do! Even to this unprovable doctrine. No Scripture to support it. Man-made "truth"."
JW's are just one doctrine of demonic error...and every doctrine of demons is tested by this one question and how it is answered. The true Church will KNOW the answer, for any other is not the truth; amen!!!
Hold fast and know that God is using you mightily!! Do not grow weary in well-doing (Gal 6:9), as there is much to be done, for in due season you shall reap!!! We are all part of the body of Christ, called to a specific work and as long as we do it with all our heart, our strenth and with that beautiful spirit of love, we will please our LORD, Jesus Christ!! God bless you abundantly!! In His LOVE, JD

Another wonderful teaching--my Sister, you have such a powerful indwelling of Holy Spirit!
As an ex-JW, I had read that passage of Jesus' with Peter. Jesus asking "Who do you say that I am?", followed by Peter's confession of Faith!
As a witness we were taught that Jesus was Michael the archangel.
But here's the thing, the Watchtower Society really cannot correct that teaching now--even if they would WANT to.

Now that I know the 'TRUTH' is Christ Jesus, our ONLY Lord and Savior, I will try to follow your example and lead people to the REAL Christ!

This question is perfect for Easter...I found another article that supports what you have written here by Author Ray Pritchard.
"Who do you say that I am?" (Matthew 16:15)
It all comes down to this eventually.
In the Greek text the word you has an enormous stress. In fact, the word you really goes at the first of the sentence. It is as if Jesus is saying, "But you who have followed me and have known me from the beginning, who do you say that I am?" It is the greatest question in the entire universe and it is one which every person must eventually answer.
Whenever there was a question, Peter would always be the first one to answer. And when Peter answers here, he is not speaking simply for himself, but for all the disciples. His answer is very, very specific. "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God" (Matthew 16:16). In the Greek, the word "the" is repeated four times. You could translate it this way: "You are the Christ, the Son of the God, the Living One." Peter was saying, "I know who you are. You are the Messiah sent to save us and you are the Son of God from heaven." It is short and simple. Everything necessary for salvation is included in that statement.
I think some people would read that statement and say, "Well, that's no big deal. I would say that, too." Sure, Christians everywhere would stand up and say, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." But Peter was the first person in human history ever to say it out loud. And he said it when few were with Jesus and many were against him. He deserves all the credit, for without his confession there would be no Christian church.
Does it matter what we believe? These are the words of C. S. Lewis, from Mere Christianity:
I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God." That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to (pp. 52-53).
To be almost right about Jesus is to be totally wrong. Why? Because we are not saved by good opinions about Jesus. We not saved because we have a good feeling about Jesus. We are not saved because we like his moral teaching. That is not enough. We are saved because we have entrusted ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Messiah and the Son of the Living God. By his death and resurrection he has saved us from our sins.
Does it matter what we believe about Jesus? Yes, it does. The truth about Jesus is the difference between heaven and hell.
Jesus has a question for you today, it's the same one he asked 2000 years ago.
"Who do you say that I am?"
Our God and Father, we gladly take our place with the confessing church around the world. We do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God. May we never be ashamed of him and never be ashamed to make that confession. Amen.

Excellent, You are putting the Word out there. Whether it is accepted or not is up to the individual that reads not only what you have here. Many people are blinded by their own traditions and can't see past the traditions that they have been taught throughout their lives. I know this that Paul encountered so many people in his ministry. Yet there were always three responses to his message. One of complete and absolute unwillingness to listen, one that accepted what he was saying, and one in which the listeners said we will hear you again on this subject. We can all grow in our walk with the Lord. Keep up the Great Work!

I would like to address seekers comment if it is OK.
There was a basketball player a few decades ago. His name is Jerry West. To simply say he was a basketball player, while true, is an understatement. He was in fact one of the greatest of all time.
To say that Jesus simply did the will of the Father is likewise an understatement. He was born of flesh and spirit. What does it mean to be born of flesh? It means born with a sin nature. We are all born with this sin nature.
What does it mean to be born of the spirit? It means we have come to the knowledge of who God is and this only through the blood of Jesus Christ.
I have a hub that may help to explain this even more than this one. https://hubpages.com/hub/WhoisJesusChrist

seekeroftruth, I have the Spirit of God living in me, and just as Jesus knew when the Pharisees were setting Him up to trap Him according to His answer, I won't succumb to this tactic, sir. Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, and as the Son of Man, performed the will of the Father by coming to die on the cross for sinful man. Those who receive His sacrifice are adopted into the kingdom of God, aka the kingdom of His dear Son (for He is one). Those who reject Him still belong to their father, the devil. If you want a real challenge to your mind, I just wrote another hub called "Let Me Tell You WHO GOD IS!" I pray you will truly continue to SEEK TRUTH. Amen.

Hi brother! Yes, I met with JW's many years ago, at which time I asked the Lord what we should focus on in our "reasoning" sessions. There is nothing more important than this very question of "Who Do You Say That I AM?" It's interesting that the JW's focus on the New Testament when it comes to Revelation and the 144,000, yet ignore the New Covenant (New Testament), which ONLY is given to us by the identity of Jesus Christ, our Messiah, and Jehovah (Yehovah) in the FLESH, Who died for us and rose from the dead, AMEN! JW's teach He is Michael the archangel, whose body was annihilated as the person of Jesus, and who simply became Michael again after his death and bodily annhiliation. That's not scriptural at all. Satan would have everyone deny the deity of Jesus Christ, because it guarantees to smack God in the heart by sending every one of them into an eternity in HELL. And I'm not ashamed of the gospel, which includes HELL. Amen. It also includes heaven for everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as God in the flesh and as our only acceptable sacrifice for our sin. I am so glad you were shown the truth and came off the dark road, my dear brother no body ~ You are somebody in the kingdom of God!!
Robert E Smith from Rochester, New York on September 28, 2009:
When I was witnessing to my sister Belinda, who is a JW, it was painfully obvious that Jesus was the last thing that she was taught about. It was the same when I was a kid but you forget how deliberate the avoidance of the subject of Jesus was. Anything to get the followers to not look at Jesus, who He was, what He said, what He claimed, what He did. I told her that there was a good reason for that. They could not afford anyone looking at Him because they would soon doubt the theology of the JWs. It is the same with all the cults. Who do you say I am? Is the very question I pointed out to Belinda and I believe that this was the premise for her to be even bolder to look at Scriptural teachings that she was taught to be afraid of. This Hub is so spot on and shows God using you as a mighty teacher of His word. I love you my beloved sister.
